Canon 6D Mk II or 5D Mk III? The 6D Mk II is much cheaper and has more convenient features like Wi-fi and touch/flip out screen. The only big benefit of the 5D I see is the dual card slots but I can just rent that body out for the odd event I need where losing any images would be devastating.
I heard 6D MK2 is even worse specs wise than the OG 6D but if you really want the flippy screen, then go for it. I think its an important feature.
It exchanges light sensitivity for more megapixels. It's still a really good camera, but it has ~slightly~ more noise at 100% The rest of the specs on the 6D2 easily surpass that of the 6D1, but there's still no Magic Lantern for the 6D2. If you care about video features, consider the 5D3 or 6D. If you only care about photography, the 6D2 is a pretty damn good camera.
The worse spec is mostly the dynamic range but it's only a 0.2 EV reduction which I doubt I will notice in normal use. The touch screen looks incredibly useful so I'm probably going to go with it. I'd have preferred to have got a Sony Alpha III but the lenses are too expensive to justify it right now.
I have a holdfast moneymaker which does that job. Also pulled the trigger and ordered a 1DX II last night.
That's pretty cool! I've got a few of those PSEyes from my bachelor's capstone project I'd be down for tearing apart if I had this kit. (And maybe a Nikon F mount!)
I can totally whip up a kit for you if you can't get it printed locally, but it's important to remember that when using optics with the PS Eye you get a whopping 9x crop factor
My current video setup at the moment: Sony A7s DJI Ronin M Nuclues M Follow Focus Samyang 24mm Samyang 14mm Samyang 85mm Canon 24-105 DJI Mavic 1 I use a Video Devices Pix-E5h over HDMI for the a7s to get my 4k. I'm holding out for that a7s iii.... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/210011/c47d362e-a838-4f2b-9017-cad9e6afd1a1/00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20180816193149930_COVER.jpg
Damn you packing some serious gear
Looking to upgrade soon though. Super tempted by the XT3 but it would mean getting rid of all my E-Mount glass... and not even sure what I could change it to - I can't find a EF to X mount Speedbooster and I'm a dirty little full frame fan boy :P (I know with the speedbooster it's still not full frame but close enough).
Not exatcly a camera, but heres my telescooe Celestron C8 fastar with Asgt mounts https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/240112/8860257a-6fc0-4dd4-847f-e777523e5f53/20180823_225734.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/240112/88936519-3603-41f0-8d21-6495d514c562/20180823_225729.jpg I might go for astrophotography someday, dslr or ccd.
Having decided I quite liked the AF Minolta camera I picked up, I've since bought a 70-210 f4 beercan and the 50 f1.4 . Haven't really used either of them much yet, I got the beercan cos everyone raves about it and I wanted a fast standard. Seeing as I've spent a bit of money on the system, I decided I should maybe get a more modern camera. So I've treated myself a Minolta Dynax 7, I guess Minolta's last film camera, it feels like the most advanced thing I've ever held. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/227878/e2048dd1-30fe-4776-9930-d69d81099b72/cam.jpg We've also got a new enlarger. The thing is built like a tank, it's fully solid and it's absolutely spotless. The lamp has burnt out though, hopefully I can pick one up tomorrow but I don't think it's likely. Here it is next to our old wobbly enlarger: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/227878/e52b6122-497a-40b2-92e7-7d66c4ebbf18/enl.jpg Shame about the lamp, I was hoping to do some messing about with it tonight
i have the same setup, except my a7 is not a 2
amazing kit with the only downside being the minimum focus distance
I've had my stuff for a while now, it's nothing exciting but it gets the job done. I've just got my D5300 which was a pretty lucky eBay find, it was in like-new condition for $270 and had a shutter count of 2085. Then I have the usual 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR lenses. I think the next lens on my list will be the Nikkor 35mm 1.8G, it seems to be a fantastic non-kit lens for the price. I also grabbed a Fotodiox adapter ring so I can use my old functional FD lenses, which are a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and a Kiron 28mm f/2. I'd say the 28mm is probably the lens I use most. Those FD lenses used to be my grandpa's, so I'm glad I can put them to use once again. That other lens is also a FD mount 80-200mm, but it has a loose aperture blade and the actual mounting ring doesn't work properly. Since it's just a lower cost knockoff lens it's not worth fixing, but it makes for a nice display piece. Then I have a Slik U900 tripod which I found new in box for $19, and couldn't pass it up for that price. https://i.imgur.com/ySkFq8p.jpg https://i.imgur.com/e5urwBr.jpg
http://puu.sh/BxOta.jpg http://puu.sh/BxOMF.jpg That's an A7III w/ the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (the meme lens of 2018) Then of course there's all the film-based camera shit, but that's a story for another day.
my gosh, the 1DX2 is an absolute machine. been shooting low light conferences and nightclubs in it at 2.8 and it nails focus every single time. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1894/44070703354_015882bb24_c.jpg
Initial observations with the 1DX2. High ISO performance is a massive improvement over previous models. AF sensitivity in low light is much improved, but in Servo can be easily confused by background details, but it's consistently better in low light than the 5D3. I was photographing a ceilidh on a variety of settings, mostly though the subjects are moving toward me. Auto-point selection decided to move from the subjects face to the background in maybe 15% of shots. The AI Servo with iTR + Face AF enjoys not focusing on faces unless they're large in the frame making it fairly useless at events. The flash exposure is consistently +1 stop and while I can correct this, it's very annoying - the 6D has better ETTL performance.
How's the weight penalty?
My wrist regrets the decision.
So we were digging through my late grandma's house, and i found this quirky camera Sony CyberShot DSC-WX100 that was sent from the states. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57917/d698d894-0bae-4c5b-a7b0-6a9afccbac8b/image.png for a camera like this it takes ok pictures, resolution is almost as big as a normal DSLR https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/258087425346240513/498162250746560512/DSC00617.JPG
Hey we use one of those at work for doing surveys of supermarkets. It's tiny and after about 15 minutes of constant use I get a painful ache around the ball of my hand
So, I had a chance today to test drive the EOS R + lenses. The camera itself is brilliant but obviously not aimed at full time pros- it lacks a lot of buttons, you have to piss about in menus and it would be a ballache to operate with gloves on but the AF performance excels IMO the 5DIV for what I was doing today. Using the EOS R then picking up a 5DIV felt like taking a step back, but was obviosuly a hell of a lot quicker to change settings with dedicated buttons for everything. With EF lenses it focuses probably twice as fast as a 5D3 and would have the edge over a 1DX2. While these example images are fairly well controlled they aren't perfect. The twirling ribbon was shot under some LED room lights, giving a not very flattering light designed for conference attendees to read notes, not photograph gymnasts under. The second one had a lighting right set up by a Canon Ambassador using 6 EX600 II speedlights and Lastolite softboxes. The rear flashes were set by him and the front was on E-TTL -0.7 on the example given. I have a full pile of RAW images at a variety of ISOs which I can sent to those who care. The RF 50 1.2 is an absolutely killer lens, dead sharp wide open with incredible AF performance. They didn't have any of the 28-70 f/2 available. I'm quite excited to see the future of the RF system and what they bring out for the pro users. If you've any questions, give me a shout! Cons: It's a little slow to turn on and get ready, the image review lag was quite painful, no buttons for ISO,WB etc. Pros: AF was less easily confused than a mirror camera, it produced lovely in camera colour, the servo focus was fab, when using big fast lenses it aims to pick out the eye and nail focus on that. Very respectable high ISO performance. Fantastic AF speed. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1951/45094777292_fa2bcdba17_c.jpg Canon EOS R - EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM - 130mm - ISO 1600 - f/2.8 - 1/200 https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1964/44422226574_b457f11222_c.jpg Canon EOS R - EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM - 200mm - ISO 800 - f/2.8 - 1/60 https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1917/44422240774_5c1b5ff75d_c.jpg Canon EOS R - EF85mm f/1.2L II USM - ISO 400 - ƒ/1.2 - 1/200
I've seen people shitting on the EOS-R for having a lot of noise in shadows. How did you find the noise performance?
A Canon 6D is about $1000 right now which sounds okay for you. You could get a Sony A7 Mk II for about the same price if you want to get a fairly top of the line mirrorless camera and I believe your lenses would work with an adapter on it.
I found the noise performance on par or exceeding the 5DIV - it's the same sensor but with a newer generation processor beside it. I'm happy to fire some RAW files over to you when support comes out, or full size JPEGs if you want a look? I'd say get a battered 6D used. I have one but I don't want to get rid of it because I love it too much. Mines on 240k and still works flawlessly.
Yea 6D is good, unless you do shit like sports or action and you need the fps Personally never had issues with having the need for dual sd cards.
