We could set up a Discord though? There's already a Facepunch one, but I'm unsure if we'd have our own channel there for creative stuff. I'll know more in 20 mins once I get access to it
There used to be a Creationism Corner discord, but it was populated more by ex-Blockland forum users than FP users, and it was being run by someone who doesn't go on Facepunch. It also shut down some time ago.
There is another FP Art discord called Facepunch Creative. It's not super active, though I guess you could probably set up camp there. There's also an FP 3D Art discord called 3D Fuck Bunker that has some more activity, if you're interested in that. I'll have to ask both servers if it's okay to post invite links on here.
seriously I don't think it is such a good idea to splinter off Facepunch since the only reason I visit is because I was passing by while already using the forum.

I said let's not divide platforms (even two THREADS for us was bullshit, posterity proved me correct about that as well) because we don't have the userbase for anything but a single home. again and again I've said this lol but we made the facebook, it's been dead since, people have made discords for this thread at least twice before I think despite my protests among others, they died. but one whiff of opportunity and we're racing to make more discords!
anyway I don't like being the bearer of bads new but maloof I don't think we're that tight knit, there are just a handful of us who remember when this thread/community was robust five years ago or something, none of whom is even particularly active... it's getting to the point where if garry pulls the trigger I would mourn the format of FP with its avatars and ratings and so on more than the loss of this thread
by the way I would say the fb group worked out ideally, i.e. it's always been stone dead and just acts as a bank for our details without sucking any discussion away from this thread.

I think we're somewhat tight knit - at least, there are relationships here I'd hate to lose. The entire point of these alternatives IS for them to die/go dormant until we need them if the forum dies. They were never intended to be actively used right now, but simply be backup meeting places
imo forum threads like this are the best for this sort of stuff; i'm always happy to see what you guys come up with and see you progress each on their own journey - there's so much personality and different influences; would be awesome to see everyone's take on some single theme or idea but i doubt people would do it out of interest
honestly discord just lowers the bar tenfold for post quality (which isn't bad for just chatting with people) and people's works lose the main focus, it's also annoying to read one word per message and you can't really have a proper discussion with multiple people over an entire day
yeah I see garry in that thread maloof linked saying how he thinks the forum may be an obsolete medium, despite its manifest superiority over everything else for community discussion (or debate if we were in that sort of thread)
it's like when MSN was pushed under the sea by those with commercial interests in newer software, and nothing as good and straightforwardly functional has been in use since.
this is much worse though, the format of A. threads in which a discussion under a topic can progress over a long time and B. having a sophisticated non-PC rating system for posts is irreplaceable. nobody is going to make anything remotely as good as FP in particular for communicating with groups of people online ever again I would hazard to say, at least until there is some major augmentation technologically for user interface which changes the game.
and he wants to move us all over to reddit of all places. good grief
