I mean the main reason why people say to blend with a hard brushes, is mostly a beginners thing. Painting either a hard brush only forced you to learn edge control with much more confidence.
masters will use a combination to speed up their process because they can already control their soft/hard edges extremely well.
Oh man, you overestimate my ability. I'd really like to learn to do that though. Doing some composition studying right now. Probably gonna have to learn how to render things soon.

Nice, man! Recording / talking / drawing and doing it all in one take is quite a feat in its own.
I'll admit that I didn't watch the full video but what I would suggest is recording the drawing part first, speed it up and record your comments on it as you're watching a playback - that way you'll split up the brain power / focus needed for each part individually. It's also gonna be much easier to edit since video / audio is separate, for example the pauses inbetween words and sentences and microphone noise (audacity is great and easy for both). People's attention span is REAL fuckin low these days and they've got a lot of things to do, so your objective is to either make the video short enough to hold them or offer really good entertainment, like telling an interesting/funny story or teaching something - while not making the audience look at a blank canvas for too long.
So in general, separate the two processes from each other and edit both that they flow well together, right now it feels very stop and go with drawing/talking. That way you'll be certain of quality of both since you can control it with edits and not hope to nail both in one take for 40 minutes. Just my opinion, though.

just be wary of going too far in this mindset, there are people out there who wet the bed trying to be entertaining, cutting together many clips of themselves cracking awful jokes and other cretinous behaviour in a rapid fire style. it's unbearable to watch. I think one either has the personality for what is essentially public speaking or one doesn't, don't try to force the personality aspect because if you need to do so you don't have the personality required
mariobro I don't have time to watch it sorry, I did jump into it for a minute and you were torturously hand-writing the name of the album you were going to talk about, making a long delay in doing the next bit of talking - I'd def apply jericho's advice, speed it all up and condense it. at least you don't have an annoying voice, that's nine tenths of the battle won lol

Oh man, I'm far from hire-able. Maybe in 6 months or so I could do semi-pro environmental concept art, but I feel that'd still be generous. I don't think I've got it in me to create whatever scene a boss demands from me, yet. I have fuck-all knowledge about design too. Yes I'm seeing myself improve, but I'm simultaneously seeing the facets I am lacking in. All I've got going on for me is some composition knowledge and ~8-9 months of daily perspective focused drawing. It's some, but not that much experience as I'd like.
On how I'm improving, I'm just following the advice of industry professionals. I figured it'd be better than flailing about and trying to figure everything out on my own. My goal is getting better fast, not spending years doing my own thing, figuring out different learning methods that fit me personally.
Apparently a very effective method is analyzing and grinding out master studies after master studies. So that's what I'm doing, I'm trying to accumulate as much techniques and lessons from the work of incredible artists as possible.
aw, thanks for the reply! Recognizing own shortcomings is a powerful motivation to drive a skill forward, I'm sure you'll do great at your current rate!
However, I'm not too sure what you mean by "master studies". Can you please elaborate a little bit on that?

Man you are such an inspiration. I've seen the same Safadi series, but I constantly battle my lack of drive to get better. It's hard to push through the bad to get to the good, ya know what I mean? If you can so quickly get to the quality of work you're now pumping out, maybe I can get off my ass and commit to something for once.
Tried doing some value/comp studies today of some Anders Zorn paintings. I tried using a hard brush for the first 3 but just wasn't feeling it. Switched back to my usual textured square brush. Gonna make these comp studies a daily thing because even though they don't look good I feel like it warmed me up for the day. Also good practice for converting colour to mono which im terrible at.

I think the hard brush worked nicely, you should keep at it.
Join me in doing daily studies then. Maybe it will help if many people do it here, and we can keep each other accountable. It doesn't have to be a big thing each day, it can be something small that you do in 30 minutes or so. More studies:

thank you man I really appreciate it, I haven't really tried to draw a person before and it's so hard to look at it objectively when I've already been staring at it for hours
If you have problem looking at a drawing objectively just flip it horizontally, it'll give you a new outlook on the same image, makes it way easier to spot problems!
that's a big improvement, another thing that looks weird to me though is how extremely low the hairline is
