Right now the stone mat is just the AO and Height information for the displacement and flat colours, so I've not made any detailed diffuse textures yet. Ill do that today, the plan is to have a lot of the detail come through in line work, Im trying to stay away from normal information so that the textures fall in with my painting style (so I should mention that this is absolutely not supposed to be photo realistic). So I hope that will address the fleshy issue!
I'm really glad you mentioned the "micro-world" idea, its actually spot on what I'm going for! For every material I'm making I'm taking as much inspiration as possible from micro photography and blowing up the shapes I find to much larger scales.
But in the case of the stone, for the shape I'm also trying to replicate the shapes in this ref, primarily the ones outlined in red.

I guess I'm missing those sharp edges?
The pebbles/gems are supposed to be separate and not painted on, I've not been able to get the masking working on them yet unfortunately. The majority of this will be covered in foliage so I was hoping to just cover it up if I couldn't get the masking working. But thats definatly something that Im trying to get looking better.
As for the lighting its as basic as can be right now, so theres not a lot to say about it haha, but I'll obviously be looking for more contrast when I come to the lighting.

Is there anyway I can copy the UV's of my gap (highlighted in orange) to the geometrically identical gap just at the tip of my Red Arrow? (In the left viewport):

delete the right, snap the left to the new hole, then weld them together would probably be easiest

I am rendering a Terrain model exported from a KMZ into DAE(collada) imported into sketchup.
The model itself is split into 791 instances.
I need to assign a new material(less shiny) to all of them without changing the texture.
Any help?

It's been maybe 2 years since I last did any real 3D Work in either Max or Solidworks. The model is being done by eye, so no dimensions etc from a single picture reference. Hence it is
inaccurate, and is serving more as a ways to get to grips with the program again rather than anything else.

I'm happy with how it looks. Considering it's been so long since I last did anything related to 3D.
Well after many hours I made decent progress with the program and learning it all over again via trial and error and slight memory jogging.

Please excuse inconsistencies and inaccuracy in the model thus far. It is all being done by eye without dimensions. So getting it perfect would be a end game sort of task, cleaning it up and
generally making adjustments.

don't bother. people been giving this guy constructive criticism for a long time and he seemingly doesn't even try to learn from it. pointed out two glaring (also easy to fix) errors in one of his models previously and he just rated the post "big woop" lol
