The problem was I was doing exactly this and my legs were dying for it, the big boss (she doesn't interact with the photography or promotional material of the media department) just has no idea what goes into getting good angles and thinks you can stand at the back by the door with a 200mm for an hour and get great shots for promotional material. My actual boss knew that was BS and wants me to get good shots for what they're paying me. She was in one of the lectures too and said to keep doing what I'm doing and she'll take the flak if it happens again with the bigger boss. I thought of that exact top photo multiple times while shooting this but I wasn't confident I could do it with just one flash set at the back like I had. How far back did you have yours in McEwan? Where they just speedlites or bigger units? It was a religious event at Princeton Seminary so that makes sense.
are we posting conference photos??? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/33745085458_a7aa2f9f1a_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47622423021_1642b15973_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47622431151_a56d333b9d_z.jpg for reference here's that room: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/46898076414_07cbdd1d0f_c.jpg It's hard to be anywhere without everybody seeing you
just speedlights on like 1/4 power back of the room up the first row of tiered seating
From earlier on this evening: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226487/7ab9b0e3-4828-4c3d-9ce0-68c390d24cc8/DSC_8788-Edit-1.jpg
last night i shot with two profoto b1's set up in the corners of the conference room work also spoilers us tho
Attempted my first group portrait. Pretty happy with results, but honestly the positioning could be better. Shot with 1 AD600, 1 SK400, 1 Ad200. 1st was with a umbrella softbox, second with a diffused beauty dish, third with a shoot through umbrella. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/32685079857_72db226a95_k_d.jpg
yeah i've got a set of b2s but mainly use them when i really need the extra power. i should probably sell them and buy something more useful like two godox things and a 16-35
the profoto a1's are absolute heat and I absolutely recommend them. little absurd to ask almost $1,000 for an on camera flash but the way all the profoto's communicate can't be rivaled. They're just so easy to use
Or just get the godox version. Honestly, as much as I love Profoto, its not worth the price when the godox does the same job for 1/5th of the price

yeah but they lack power compared to the b2s and i don't mind the cable too much esp when i paid £1000 for 2 heads + pack + cables

I think you need to zoom in a bit, you can kinda see the flash setup tbh
Nah. Depending on the look it can be a creative vision. Look what annie leibovitz has done.
I thought the “kinda see” would give away that I wasn’t being serious.
How was I suppose to know 'kinda see' implied you weren't being serious.
Maybe it's a cultural thing, but at least around my parts, things are seeped in sarcasm, irony and facetiousness. My post implied that he somehow missed the fact that he had a complete light stand and a soft box in frame. To me that's ridiculous enough to not be taken at face value. I mean: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/185359/f1f0f170-8fec-4f54-94cb-3340c13bc3ca/image.png Really, I was just trying to chat this place up a bit - I'm sorry my post misused your helpfulness.

Is that background just colored that way or is it backlight with gels?
backlit with gels, it was a nice clear grey wall!
Nah its fine. Its just that there's no way to tell if someone's serious or not on the internet. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47677353062_aaf13b09b2_k_d.jpg Ask the model to shoot a portrait for me!
