Hi all, unfortunately I'm having to sell a very sizable chunk of my LEGO collection. I'll be moving out soon in the near future and I don't want to burden my parents by filling one of the rooms with a bunch of LEGO and boxes.
However, I've run into a problem, many of the sets, while boxed, are definitely missing pieces. I was dumb enough to have some mixed some into several boxes. So while most of the sets have the majority of pieces, it's a headache to know that I'll have to recount every single piece for some of them (and several of the sets I have are huge).
What's the best way to go about this? Pour all the pieces out (a metric ton) and sort them and then count? Or hope for the best and just look through the boxes? I figure someone here must have a similar experience.
Additionally, while I'd rather sell my sets local, perhaps if someone's interested here I might be inclined to sell to individuals here. I have plenty of old early 2000s sets from a buttload of themes
I know that I've seen a lot of people just try and filter out as much discrete stuff they can and sell the rest off in a bulk package, but I guess it really depends on how much time you're wanting to spend on going through all of it. I know that I'd likely try and pass it on to some of the kids in my extended family or put some in storage for my kids someday if I knew I didn't have room for it.

I see, how do you figure I should price the boxes if I was selling as a lot? By known sets and slashing some of the cost because it's all mixed together? I have a good idea of what sets are mixed in there.
There are a few sets I hope to pass down though :) some of my favorite classics

www.bricklink.com is probably the best option. If you want to put the time in you can easily profit on sets depending on what they are. I made about a grand selling Bionicles last year, took ages to part them out, but was worth it in the long run.
As for sorting, you can type in the set number on Bricklink and get the entire inventory for the set. Then from there just part the set out brick by brick.

Voltron and Ship in a Bottle IDEAS sets announced for next year!
Is there a painless way to buy lots of specific bricks? Bricklink is the best way I can find but it still comes out to like $80 for 300 pieces just because of shipping and stuff from multiple stores.
I just want to make this cute little Rocinante :(

Lego itself does not offer a lot of the pieces I need in their pick a brick system, which is really stupid because I know they're still being made. They don't have the dark orange at all.
[editline]3rd August 2017[/editline]
OK fuck it, went ahead and ordered. Ultimately it cost a lot more than I think it should have but oh well. I got it down to like $60 or so.

I feel this is quite the important topic so I'll put it here.
PSA:
Bricks & Pieces
There exists a service in LEGO's customer service part of the website, called Bricks & Pieces; there you can look up any LEGO set made (Except Collectible Minifigs and some polybag sets), and you can order bricks from there, sometimes at a lower price than Bricklink/Ebay/Amazon.
However not all types of pieces are available, such as:
-Licensed parts (e.g. Yoda's head or Vader's helmet)
-fabric parts (e.g. capes)
-parts that are not in production anymore
https://www.lego.com/en-gb/service/replacementparts
Third option, "buy bricks".
Brickset/Bricklink are very helpful in terms of finding the set number (alternatively by part number but it's harder).
Well, that's not a real Lego set, it's something made in LDD, and I'm not manually entering 300 bricks in their system to pay as much as I just did through Bricklink. :v:
Plus Lego doesn't seem to offer replacement/individual bricks in dark orange at all.

Oh jeez, they're Re-issuing the UCS MF.
It's not a reissue, it's a brand new design:

For comparison, the original only had 5197 pieces.
True...with the availability of tons of new useful pieces, some parts of it could be entirely re-designed - one rumor is that it'll have a new molded cockpit piece due to a new piece that was very recently released (Ninjago Movie Ice Tank):

which is an upscaled version of the cone piece used for most MF sets:

which hopefully means that 4 minifigs can actually fit this time.
There's also speculation that this time it'll have an interior, and if predictions are correct, it should be revealed between the 29th and 1st.
Even Brickset updated their database based on the information: https://brickset.com/sets/75192-1/Probably-the-Millennium-Falcon
so is there a place where you can buy lego kits that are out of production?

Bricklink is your friend:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/main.page
Go to sets, and you'll find all LEGO themes on there.
It's sometimes more cost effective to order the pieces indiviually, though. and lego has archived most of the instruction booklets dating back to the 90s, i believe
LEGO and Disney tried their best to keep it under covers, but it seems that eventually it would have leaked out.
I would take it with a grain of salt, but it seems quite legit.
There's some structures that are similar from the teaser trailer posted a few weeks ago.

I can't tell you how glad I am to have found this site, seeing the old aquazone sets really take me back.

The new MF is so big (7541 bricks, makes it the biggest set of all time, replacing the Taj Mahal) they had to make a trolley case specifically for it. Holy fuck they're going all out on this one.
Apologies for double posting, but I felt it deserved a post of its own.
Here it is, finally revealed, 75192 - UCS Millennium Falcon

Dead thread needs content. Bought the UCS Millennium Falcon Thursday (9/14) morning when it went on sale for VIPs on Lego's site and had it in hand on Saturday (9/16). I probably dumped about 18-20 hours building it. Was worth it, can confirm it is huge.

Also, for the annual LEGO community Flickr event SHIPtember, I made what is my biggest (LDD) MOC to date:
