Just now getting into motion design and After Effects. I posted this in the NFL thread as well. I'd like to do an entire video with all 32 NFL logos.
I'm actually doing a major in motion graphics this year, this sorta stuff is my jam! The thing my prof's been stressing on us, every move/wipe/keyframe needs to have some kind of easing; slow start, fast mid, slow end. A lot of stuff you can get away with just hitting "easy ease" but most of your time should be spent in the graph editor making stuff move as fluidly as possible. A lot of your movement looks like it's just linear keyframes, makes everything look really choppy and stiff. Another thing is to have pretty much everything happen at once. The way you're having shapes build on, it looks very "first thing, second thing, third thing, done", it's slow and boring. You really have to confuse the viewer, make it so they can't pick out what-happens-where unless they slow down the video. It helps to have a lot of layers/shapes to work with, but yeah, with logos sometimes there just isn't that much detail. That buffalo logo is one of them that has like, barely anything to work with, so it should really take less than a second to build on. Pretty good though!
The Baltimore Ravens one is definitely the best one, but they are all awesome, motion graphics is one thing I have no clue how to do and I slap myself daily for missing out.

I actually opted not to take motion design in school (stupid of me) and am now learning it in my spare time and on the job. My boss was nice enough to humor me with some small motion design projects since he knew I was interested in learning it, and I've just been learning as I go. I've only been playing with it for a few weeks now. The graph editor is something I'm still wrapping my head around. For now I've mostly been using either easy ease or the Ease and Wizz plugin. I haven't done a lot of either yet as you can tell, but I guess I kinda want to get them down roughly and clean them up after. Like I said, I'm new to AE so that may not actually be the best workflow.
I'll get CC eventually i guess, but with doing my masters in arch. I dont really have time to learn anything new atm unfortunately. On another note, Got to say that I'm rather happy with how busy this thread has been lately.
need cc on a custom cover for a person project im not sure about the -lines- on -the complete series- but it looks a bit basic without em. thoughts?
or also, do you think the band of the hawk logo is better? [t]http://i.imgur.com/8H7jEKO.jpg[/t]
Heyo I've built a really crappy blogspot folio out of reused assets (stuff I made ages ago mainly) [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/MgqBFl4.png?1[/thumb] If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it. I'm mainly a programmer though so I don't think any potential employers will be super obsessed with my web design skills. My main question is what would be a good font for headers and titles, and can anyone think of a better idea for a background? I'm not asking for stuff to be supplied, just maybe some stuff to look at as a reference. alternatively if you have an easy to set up host that'll look more modern I can give it a crack (and is low cost to free, student lyfe)

I wonder if the episode chunks could be spaced out a little bit more, the grunge text is so bold and complex it kind of needs some padding. I think the lines on Complete Series are fine, but you could probably try something else too, like dots or something maybe symbolically relevant? The main thing that I noticed is that the collectors edition text on the bluray bar seems out of place or something. Im not sure what to suggest here, but maybe try some things. Does it need to be a blue bar? Could it be on like a torn banner or sword?
This looks nice, i'd like to see more. As it was brought up by the other guy, though it looks like you've tampered with the speed graph on parts, i do think it could look a lot smoother and give the elements a little more sense of weight and gravity. I fell into a job a couple of months ago as an animator for an Estate Agency's marketing team after not getting a job as a designer. I had little experience using after effects but using it each and everyday for basically 7 - 8 hours really helped me pick it up. This is a video i've just recently rolled out for our Auction service, its fully animated though i usually work alongside the videographer too. I'm still seeing issues with it to change (the beauty of working in-house is that i can just fix the mistakes and directly re-upload it) but I am having a shit load of fun with it though and i can see myself actually pursuing more motion graphics based jobs in the future.

It looks like a template that has had the background changed and content made to fit your needs. What is going to make your blog stand out, secondary to the content you put on to it, will be how the design is captivating the reader, and how it's complimenting the content. If this is a serious thing for you (you want employers to be looking at it) I would highly recommend looking into personalising it, and for that I really couldn't recommend blogspot. If you're a programmer, look into building a blog and hosting it youself - it really shouldn't be difficult if you already have programming experience. Use something like Jekyll which will give you a bunch of freedom that you won't get through blogspot. You say that potential employers "wouldn't be super obsessed with your design skills", but this couldn't be more wrong. This is the stuff employers look at and will make you stand out from the rest. I'm going on quite a lot here, but check out these blogs, which I found linked to on Jekyll's website. https://leo.im/ http://rsms.me/ These sites are really clean and put the content forward to the reader. And Jekyll helps keep it easy to get content across, check out this page - code tags, images - stuff you'll want I assume. The reason I mention these blogs specifically though, is because of how simple the design is, and it works, something I'm sure you can easily pull off. Sorry I might have rambled on a bit here, and this might be too much if you're just looking a simple blog to throw stuff up on, but you did mention employers in your post. Hope it helps.

[editline]4th November 2015[/editline] really cool tip: a lot of people give away their project's fonts for free on behance. there are some really cool ones there
really cool tip: a lot of people give away their project's fonts for free on behance. there are some really cool ones there
Good tip for sure. I'll keep that in mind. In terms of the clean/dirty contrast, i think it's working well. I'm just not sure about the stark rectangle of the bar and whether blue is the best choice. Like i said though, looks good either way. Probably just a personal preference.

A lot of tracking on script/handwritten style fonts usually looks odd in general since people don't write that way. Plus the blue color has a very modern feel to it along with being next to the Blu-ray logo.

It just tonally doesn't seem to work with the rest of the cover, might be able to fix that by making it even more contrasting so that it is obviously a separate element and not part of the actual cover graphic. Maybe a more darker / neon blue, and a serif font?
yeah I've just changed the font to a regular one.
What kinds of computers do you use? I never realized I would be dealing with 300mb+ illustrator files and the computer they're having me use at work takes 5-20 minutes to save a single file.

I use an rMBP but my files never get that big because I don't embed anything ever after losing a bunch of work in a 500+mb file. If you can do referencing instead, I recommend at least trying it.
yeah, linking files is a real lifesaver
oh those are both things i need to do. I forgot I was working directly on the server which is probably a terrible idea for multiple reasons
I worked directly on the server at work last year, but with linking it was still super quick. Working on the server can be a bit risky I guess if the server is finnicky, but I only ever lost tech. drawings, never indesign or illustrator files.
Some backgrounds I made today. Up close photos through a magnifying lens of coloured films in-front of a spotlight. I know this might be a wrong place to ask but I was hoping I could get some (preferably free) help with designing a quick logo for a virtual wargame I'm participating in? The idea was to have a logo for a fictional company called Ursus (latin for Bear) Tactical Solutions but I have no clue how I would this off by myself. So yeah, I was hoping that perhaps someone could help me by whipping out some quick design (it doesn't need to be detailed, really)? As for the design I was hoping to have a Pentagon shape with a black border around it (so it fits well on uniforms) with a bear on it and then the name. Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
I got ya: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w10zev74wqx37mk/normal-01.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/3kkqknn7xixcjvc/alternate-01.png?dl=0
Hot damn, loving that alternate version. Any chance you could squeeze in Ursus at the bottom of the pentagon as a secondary version for uniforms?
Ya, I'll try to remember to do that a bit later today if you are ok with waiting.
Of course, take your time.
Started working on some card designs for a school project. Decided to do a prototype card back to get things started. Any tips on how to improve it would be great to hear. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/jzRtlzR.png[/thumb]
Here's the file VIPER, should be big enough and high enough resolution that you can just crop out the ones you don't want. Its 2 ' x 2 ' and 300 dpi. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3kkqknn7xixcjvc/alternate-01.png?dl=0 [editline]12th November 2015[/editline]
Started working on some card designs for a school project. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/jzRtlzR.png[/thumb]
Are these standard playing cards? Or specialty cards for a tabletop game? Without knowing my only suggestion would be that there is a bit too much of the same colour tone going on. Try adding a bit more contrast somehow, like through some white in there a little bit somewhere. It might look pretty good if either the border of the background (but not both) was white. Also, the edge effects on the character in the middle are pretty gross, simple is almost always better. If you want a bevel, try just a basic bevel. I like some of the details you have going on though, if they are playing cards, you are definitely on the right track in terms of making them look classy / casino-y.
