I agree with everything that has been said both by pieclock and yourself. Design schools will definitely look at the way you present your work almost as much as what you are presenting. I for one really appreciate the content of the presentation. It's super helpful to know why you did things because even non designers can potentially make a good looking logo, it is the thought and the process that prove you could do it again and again. I like the logo too. Though it does feel a little bit busy due to the abundance of lines in positive / negative, different directions, mixed with dots. However at the same time i like the play between the dots and the vertical connections. So i don't know ha ha. One recommendation for the page layout would be a white background for the majority with a smaller black area only when you want to show yellow on black. Getting into page layout now is a good idea though, its actually really fun and something i waited too long to start looking at.
This is some photomanipulation i did ages ago I titled it bookworm holiday. This was literally out of boredom, i found some free books stock so i wanted to do something with them and this was the result.
Nice. Maybe a bit sharp for my liking and the balloons don't really fit. Would love to let a bit of creativity flow myself by doing something like that but damn I just don't have any cool ideas for it.
Yeah i agree, that tree and balloons could have done with not being there. The tree also got distorted to fuck when i tried warping it. I don't remember it being that bad when i did it.
Is using and refining stock Photoshop filters generally looked down upon? I'm not planning on making a portfolio out of pictures using them or anything, but I love the look of some of them, especially the Cutout filter. That's a photo of me that I used the Cutout filter on, then went into and refined the colors and shapes of the layers. I'm still tweaking it as I type this to keep the colors contained to where they should be. I was aiming for it to be smoother in the face area, but more jagged for the hair and shirt. I'm using this as my avatar for most social media websites I use and I hope it doesn't come off as lazy or chintzy or anything.
I'm applying to design school and I didn't feel comfortable simply submitting logos in my portfolio so I whipped this up. There's a lot of mumbo jumbo that I should cut back on but I want them to know the process I went through to make the logo. I might redo this when I have the time so that it shows initial drafts or something. looking back on it i really should remove all the text and make it more visual, like showing the logo at different sizes and colors and such.
The fonts are quite bad too. The heading font looks streched horizontally. and the body font being serif clashes with the sans serif heading. [editline]25th January 2016[/editline] and i feel like the whole process is a bit too rudimentary to show. 'here's a server. here's an octagon. and combined, they make my logo' - i think a process needs to be slightly more abstract or have varied iterations so your whole process doesn't come across as 2 steps and the very first idea and designs you had.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/a9OqLvc.png[/t] here's another one with the same problems regarding the fonts and the layout, but it's meant to show more of the process and how i ended up with the final product.
i think you're trying to fit too much onto a single page

http://www.choonsdesign.com/index.html I was hired for an internship a few months back at a toy company and I don't know if it was in their best interest, but they told me to work on a website for them. There's a lot in terms of design and layout that I need to change but I was following the packaging design as closely as possible. This was something that they had to rush out because they already launched the product with the URL on the packaging. I didn't use a content managing system and so much of it was hacked together so it's going to be hell to work with. It also doesn't work too well on mobile. I have no idea what to do at this point because they want me to update parts of it which won't be too difficult but there are so many other things that I need to fix first. They should've hired someone more competent to do this/a full time employee. for reference, this is their main site https://www.rainbowloom.com/ and now they want me to work on a site for their company/all of their products. I probably need to bail out of this one or only create mockups for them in illustrator and not work on the actual site. [editline]26th January 2016[/editline] in short, interns are incompetent

You have some good base skills, and your presentation could easily be improved quite drastically with some simple things that you will undoubtedly learn at school. In regards to that specific page, I have two ideas which you should look up and apply: White space / negative space, and priority / heirarchy. If you are showing a logo with process, you should also pay attention to the narrative of the page, the logos and thoughts are chronological and should be very clearly in some kind of order. How do I tell clients that I'm not interested in working with them anymore, they're often waaaay too vague, except too much for what they're paying me and I haven't even been paid for my first job yet due to some (bank issues). Normally this wouldn't be an issue but they're family of a co-worker of mine so idk what to do honestly.
Just say you're too busy to take on any new jobs right now or something

Or just say that you have no interest in working with them because of reason A, B and C and you will work with them again if they get it sorted and pay you for the first job. Nothing to lose really if you want to drop a client that isn't paying.
If you wanna be professional you gotta be professional, and part of that is making sure you get paid so that they don't devalue you. You can be nice about it, but if they aren't paying you in accordance with an agreed upon schedule, then bring it up. However, if you didn't really set up a schedule then you can only expect so much. That being said, you should still feel comfortable bringing it up because you are providing a service. Its pretty important to set up a type of contract before hand so that all the terms are clear. I feel your pain on the vague briefs though. My strategy for dealing with that is that i made a questionnaire and i set up a meeting where we go through it together.
Thanks for the advice guys, I think that I'll just tell them that I've got a lot on my plate right now and can't do anymore work which is technically true since I'm starting my study next week. Hopefully it doesn't make things too dicey at my other job!
i got put in charge of designing stuff for my church oh boy isn't that exciting i designed a really basic site for them awhile back but now we need something that's actually coherent and looks nice so I'm just playing around with various things that won't be too stressful on me and easy for them to manage if they just want to make a simple flyer or something.
i would say no to that job as a church shouldnt be made appealing but whatever floats ur boat
Since class started again and I was actually up before noon, I got some motivation and made this basic poster. Basically my reason for making it is that I keep seeing missing cat and dog posters on like every light pole where I live and there's a huge coyote problem here. I was gunna put a bunch in places around town where the missing pet ones show up. I'm thinking of making a bunch of fliers out of it too and handing them to the library since they have a community paper thing section. I want to use it for my portfolio since I haven't really started one and I need to be able to sell stuff, or at least just use it as something to practice since I've gotten lazy. I'm not sure about the amount of text on the top corner since it seems like its too much, and I'm not sure of the beware is right in the middle of the orange or if that blue/orange/black even looks good. Any feedback will be helpful.
way too much text, and it has no real hierarchy to it. just a massive chunk of text nobody will ever read
Yeah I kinda just slapped all my ideas in one thing.
yeah i'm not one to speak about that type of stuff but it's also hard to read/follow when the wrapping is slanted like that. [editline]9th February 2016[/editline] [t]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/5AAhog5L45s/maxresdefault.jpg[/t] copy this lol
Hi, Can I ask for help in this thread regarding how to do a certain thing in Photoshop? Without the creative subforum it's hard to find where I should ask. Cheers.
yeah you should just ask. this thread is kind of dead compared to the other creative threads.
Its dead in terms of posts, but I lurk the thread a couple times a day and reply when I can. Photoshop questions are welcome.

Nice. You try a splash graphic of some of their toys with the logo overlaid on it.
Yeah that's a good idea actually. The boss told me it looked too generic and that it could be used for any company which I personally disagree with. which other company has to deal with rainbows?? dude i work with didn't know it was me developing the site so he started trashing it in front of me lol.
Just doing some fun exercises with my csgo group logo and trying to make it look like vapor / synthwave style. (I spent pretty much no time on the logo itself, so don't bother talking about it) Original: a e s t h e t i c version: neon fire version:
Redoing girl scout cookies for my packaging design class. Among other things, the new concept will include a cookie monster to go along with each cookie (I'm actually only doing the most popular three cookies.) This is where I am so far. Thin Mint Minotaur Samoa Sea Monster Tagalong Troll Are they too cute? Too simple? Are they iconic enough? Opinions, please. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Just picked colors from the current packages, not settled on those.
