i just want to export my after effects composition as an mp4 and now i'm going to have to spend 30 minutes downloading and installing adobe media encoder after adobe application manager takes an additional 15 minutes to update i'm sure there's good reason for all of this but it's really killing my good final stretch vibes

Saved me a lot of time and malware.
it turns out i can't install it for various reasons so i had to convert it through vlc and then i ran into some further problems because i think google messes with your video if you upload it to your drive account so i had to upload it to gfycat and save it on my phone so i could upload it to instagram [vid]https://zippy.gfycat.com/PettyFarawayGreendarnerdragonfly.mp4[/vid] i'm not really happy with how it turned out cause the tail is kind of jittery but i spent so much time trying to fix it that i just went fuck it. [editline]23rd December 2016[/editline] oh fuck the quality was wrecked
I like the idea, and the final frame / logo, but ya the animation is a little jittery. I think it could probably be improved a little just by speeding it up a little. Less time to notice the tail issues and the whole thing will start to read as kind of one event. The way the stars pop up as the main element passes them is pretty nice.
i think that counts as my first attempt at anything serious in after effects and I'm starting to get the hang of it. I found that speeding it up accentuated some of the issues oddly enough. My best bet might be to scale it up and tweak it on a larger scale so i can make finer adjustments. [vid]https://zippy.gfycat.com/TenseAthleticAbyssiniangroundhornbill.mp4[/vid] This is kind of stupid but I thought it might be funny. In its current state it looks really plain and I might mess around with shadows or textures or something.
how much should i charge for an album cover? designed and drawn by me?
I would suggest between 20 - 40 dollars per hour you think it will take you (low end of the range for people who you want to do the work for, but wouldn't be able to afford it and high end of the range for normal clients). That is what I charge generally (typically towards the lower end with the clients I've been working for, so a logo almost always takes me around 10 hours, so I usually ask for between 200-300). If I was doing it as an official job I would charge more, but since I'm technically just doing it as a hobby, I'm okay with giving a good deal. I find that with individual people, especially those just starting a small business or people who just want personal work done, 400 bucks is scary for them. That being said, I charged 700 for a full fledged logo process one time when it was a bit more of a business, and because the client saw all the work and was involved in its creation through several meetings, he felt it was worth his money. One of my early clients was great and actually forced me to charge him more haha. He said "People won't think your work is any good if you charge so low for it. Quality stuff should cost something. In the end, the more a client spends, the more value he sees in the final product."

Anyone with a Wacom Intuos Pro Small/Medium?
working on some fairly simple album art, any thoughts/ideas on this piece? not really going for vectorizing everything to make it look cartoony, mostly just looking for a subtle way to bring out the text while maintaining the Green-Red-Blue theme
Is GFX designing part of making a HUD for garrysmod? Just a ques As I'm good with photoshop and have always wanted to make a HUD... Know no lua unfortunately ;-; [editline]30th December 2016[/editline]
i think that counts as my first attempt at anything serious in after effects and I'm starting to get the hang of it.
I would try to make the text look like it was part of the roof (as in leaning on the same angles and stuff).
how's this? i'm not so good at warping stuff in 3D, especially with a bird's eye photo that makes it hard to gauge where the horizon should be. i also decided to put a 2px stroke on the letters to make them pop a little bit more http://i.imgur.com/GXF4xiV.jpg

You'll have to bend different parts of the letters to make it match the roof. Also outlining text is generally a big design no-no. I could read it fine before without it so it's fine without it. (sorry if I sound a bit harsh, I've made the same mistakes before :ohno:)
I don't really know what I should be doing to get that "painted on" look. I'm a really amateur graphic designer, I do a lot of it for fun but I appreciate the advice from seasoned vets. I think making the text look painted on is a cool idea because it further accentuates the angling of the roof, which the vectorialization already does slightly.

here's some shit that never went through
Good stuff. The second Shmongo logo and the last Shmongo one are really nice, I'd be curious to see how they are going to use them. What they would look like on a cd or something. The one thing I would say is that Shmongo and BlacInk both look quite business-y. It can work for a band, but it is hard to picture it. (The last Shmongo one would work fine though, I like it quite a bit).
I think they're just going to use them on tshirts and posters, they don't seem to be a huge band. The caterpillar ones remind me of a children's toy company which isn't great, but they look ok if they're overlaid on photos. the blacink logos were for a clothing company looking for branding and designs. idk what they're doing tho, cause it seems like you should hire a designer before you actually start up the company and begin selling shirts lol.

As a clothing brand the two in the middle row are dope. Though it would be interesting to see the crow head with a simple eye. I realize you must have purposely left it off, but it is a little strange. Ya, if I was going to start a clothing thing, I would have my first phase of designs all ready before opening up anything.
Any tutorials on how to create angular camoflauge patterns like this? [t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/8c/48/c9/8c48c9608f4e342c67795f698320a281.jpg[/t]
All I would do is to use the diagonal selection tool and fill it with color, one layer each.
Looks like something you will just have to do manually.
In Illustrator make a line of the colours, slightly overlapped: Then use the "roughen" effect on it. Then just push them together a bit more. Maybe pull a few points around for a bit more uniqueness afterwards. The easiest way to do it quick I think.
Thank you Pieclock for giving the correct answer. I always end up doing things the hard way even though I know about this stuff haha. Don't work hard, work smart! -- I wish I had something graphic design-y to post, but in the meantime this will do: A collage from my thesis which proposes engagement with environment as an alternate form of computer interface. so the previous project I was working on that I posted here is on hold, so to keep myself busy I'm making an online game. i made a little alert notification pop-up, and besides the join screen having nothing other than a name prompt, and the lobby divs not having anything other than their names (it's a WIP, oh and chat should have a box but that's not appearing due to a bug) [vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/ignbjy.mp4[/vid] any pointers?
What is it you're needing help with there, exactly? The design? If so it's hard to give pointers without knowing the content. From what I see I'd make the lobby names the same size as "Players" and "Chat", for some horizontal consistency. Visually all the gray is a bit bland.

The design and the color pallette, is what i'm mainly looking for
