i think there's a lot of potential here, where the water vapor is also the stripes of the tiger but i'm having a lot of trouble keeping it simple and clean. i think i'm going to have to simplify the silhouette of the tiger and redo the stripes.
i'm contemplating just finding a template for my portfolio. mine used to be images thrown on a blank page lol
The "R" triggers my OCD.
I thought bird was referring to this.

I thought it was the kerning. Looks to me like the E in Tiger should be shifted right a couple pixels, or the R left a few. If you want the stripes to read properly as steam, I think you're gonna have to move the mane right down to the nozzle, to make it clear that that is the origin point.
Other than that I quite like the design/colour choice.
I would cut it down to just white and abandon the whole "make all the text equal width" idea. That only really works (from my experience) with heavier text than what you are using or longer words. When you try to make a thin three letter word cover that much space it looks too lanky and weak. Here's a quick draft up I did of the whole design, to give some ideas and a different perspective:

I also noticed the water vapor on the tiger isn't in the center of the tiger, which makes it difficult to line the G up, but still make the word "TIGER" line up with the graphic. If I were you, I would handle the typography and alignment first, then add the water vapor lines where they need to be. Hopefully some of that made sense, I always struggle when trying to explain design.

Looking at it now, I think you had a good idea making the tiger a darker color, it drew more attention to the name despite the name being at the bottom. I would stick with that, but toy around with it. I still think the color difference in your original draft is a little too harsh. A slight off-white with a bit of that red background might look good.
Also, another problem I see with my design is that the thick strokes of the text kinda conflict with the thin details of the tiger. However, I do think the heavier text looks better than the thinner text. This might be a matter of finding the right weight, or even taking away some detail from the tiger?
thanks for the feedback y'all

I think I need to keep the font the same for branding purposes, but I did try to fix some of the problems you guys brought up about the spacing and stuff.
I'm gonna work on the stripes next, but maybe not now because this is draining.
The stripes being steam is a great idea.it looks pretty decent already, but i support you in trying to make them as good as possible as they are the element which gives the design that extra pizzazz which separates good from really good.
That's an awesome idea laughingstock. Loving it.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I've got a question about printing graphics. We've got a sublimation printer at work and for a long while students have been using photoshop profile sRGB iec 1966 2.1 to create their work on. Today one student wanted to use illustrator to create a vector of her drawing. I haven't used illustrator much so we just told her to use CYMK colour scheme on 300DPI. When we came to print it and heatpress the sample, the colour came out just as bright as other students work which were done in photoshop.
So in short, is there any difference when it comes to printing in RGB or CYMK? There seems to be abslutely no colour difference when both tester samples were printed and heatpressed. I was quite surprised how easy it was to vectorise and colour work in illustrator than having to mess around with levels in photoshop and then magic wand/filling in sections.
Well, as far as I understand, most printers have the ability to convert RGB colours to CMYK, however, each printer does it differently, so there is a chance that the printer's colour management might differ considerably from the program and from the screen. In your case, it sounds like Illustrator's CMYK settings translated well to the printer, but at my job I have had TONS of trouble getting CMYK InDesign files to print the proper colour on our printer. I have tried literally everything, and essentially have given up, because for some reason it will randomly print the right colours once in awhile.
Essentially, I don't really know, printing is one thing I haven't bothered to really learn since I'm not specialized in graphic design, but yes there is a difference. CMYK can achieve different colours than RGB can, so typically you should design print documents in CMYK. Some printers when converting RGB will dull the colours in the conversion.
Thank you for the help, that makes a bit more sense. I had always thought it was weird why the supplier said to use RGB even though we use CYMK inks. The only other thing I change when printing is to let the printer decide colours and choose 'perceptual' as it apparently retains the correct colours. I haven't messed around with any other options - I've only been using photoshop and illustrator in the past two years.
Opinions on my business card?

OCD tells me the woman should be just a tiny tiny tiny bit more to the right. Or her left leg should fall between the D & O.
The text and icons aren't horizontally centered on the back of the card. Look at the space between the ".com" and right edge compared to the icons and left edge.
maybe look into different ways to format the back altogether

what do you guys think?
this is the logo I'm trying to use:

and just for fun, a little animation for it:

that animation's pretty cool, but the transition's a bit rough. maybe it'll look cool if you just keep the second half of it and slowed it down/eased it all cooly.

I'm working on a group project and we're going to hang these around campus to contrast with all the heavily politicized posters that are going up, but the primary purpose is to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health and seeking help. These are meant to clear people's minds and give them something more pleasant to focus on as they're walking between classes and such.
layout design is a bitch tho and we're still deciding on content, we were thinking along the lines of adding statistics/facts, and once we figure those out it might be easier to figure out where all of the text is going to go. i just want these to be clean though, and i'm afraid of what the text might do.

this went over well btw, one of the owners of the company emailed me asking for more photos i shot and also asked when i could start. that's not a guarantee but it's looking pretty good. i'm just glad i made it to this stage.

lol sorry, I thought it was just a funny little thing I made. It was more of an exercise of font indetifying because that was pretty much the whole time I spent making it. I'll snip it.
Anyways, is there a way to post PDFs on FP, other than just posting an Issuu link? What's the best format to post layout spreads from inDesign??
I'd just export it to images and upload them as a gallery to imgur.
Sidenote they offered me the internship so I'll be doing that over the summer

this is probably cheesy, but there's a little 'm' formed by the two arches at the top of the tower that you could play around with, like maybe the tower could be incorporated into the text even though i think that's kind of a sin.
i think what you have works but the varying widths of all the lines is a bit weird. why is the tower curved though?
lol i'm so glad that page finally ended, there was an image on that page that froze my browser for a few seconds every time i scrolled down to it.
It's funny, I think I was having that same problem -- wondered why my chrome kept crashing and thought my RAM was going bad or something.
i think that's partially on me cause i exported one of my files at 300dpi and the others who helped me with my design also worked with the 300dpi file and posted them too lol
also i found out that i can get high quality colored printing for free as long as i supply my own paper. yesterday i was printing large 17x22 photos for one of my class and my instructor just told me to print off a couple of copies to see how they turned out on different types of paper. that idea is so foreign to me, like just one of those would have obliterated my ink cartridges at home.

I guess the tower is probably iconic / important to the ambitions of the logo, but it is so disconnected and awkwardly proportioned to the rest of the logo (its very narrow and tall, while the rest of the logo is wide and short). Additionally, the tower is just floating there while the logotype actually has a foundation. Couldn't the word unity become a larger component and the I become the tower coming out of the hill / base? (with some tweaks, for instance, just take out the lines and have it as a solid form with those arched gaps).
It works fine right now, but it could be a lot better. Also, the versions with the curved tower are bleh, but the curved base (under the text) is nicer than the peaked one.
My suggestion for reworking it would be to take the most iconic element of the tower and work it in somehow on a larger scale.
