I do like the personal monogram style, and I'd like to make it work if possible - my tutor is always gonna shit on it though, his idea of a good logo is "MYNAME PHOTOGRAPHY" with a camera symbol on top
If you haven't done so already the best way to start is grabbing a large sheet of paper and just going at it with lots of LX's and seeing what comes out. Just churn out ideas quick and fast and refine later. Also kudos to you for posting your design here when you don't consider yourself a graphic designer.
I was thinking of a financial company when i saw that. i think i would do what pieclock said because there are a lot of other ideas you could start exploring
Pieclock's changes help, but as a logo it has terrible balance. It just kind of "feels" wrong. The left side is heavy, uses right-angles, and is closed by the corner of the L, the right side is lighter (only 1 stroke), at an odd angle, and is open (not closed off by anything). This makes it feel really unfinished or awkward. Try to bring some unity between the left and right side. There is no obviously internal order to it. A logo needs to be legible typographically and formally as well. Someone should be able to immediately intuit the physical relationship between the shapes. Think of it almost like structure, for it to best function the weight needs to be evenly distributed and it should have points of contact with the "ground."
As a continuation, maybe try to make the logo fit inside a circle or square, right now the total shape if you were to outline it is kind of weird. i feel like i just accidentally made a Supreme newsletter
I like the layout but the colours could be toned down a bit. Also please get rid of those hyphens :disgust:
please get rid of those hyphens :disgust:
hyphens are the brutalism of graphic design and all i make are concrete obelisks
those outlines are doing you no good
those outlines are doing you no good
yeah I dunno I was up at 4am last night going out of my mind on this thing. it was the last of my final projects due for the semester and I started getting into the rut of completely overthinking everything. I feel like I toggled the outlines on and off about 1000 times before I decided that there needed to be just a little separation of elements somehow in hindsight, I could have achieved that by tweaking the color palette and toning them down a little for more contrast. I didn't even realize until right now (err, earlier today when I posted) that I accidentally left the hyphens in my body copy. I used a website for help with choosing the palette, I'm so fuckin' terrible at colors but I knew I wanted a nice robust pastel red for the header
hyphens are the brutalism of graphic design and all i make are concrete obelisks
I think you'll find most brutalism still utilizes patterns, rhythm, and consistency and large solid homogenous masses. Hyphens are like cracks in the concrete my friend lol
Workin on simplifying my personal logo, current is on the left and new version is on the right. yay or nay? [editline]7th May 2017[/editline] I also changed the colour of the top bar so it flows better
Much better without those little slivers, i might even go further with colour change on the top bar though. [editline]7th May 2017[/editline] Little silly banner and logo I made for a LAN party I'm hosting in celebration of graduating my second / Masters degree (The name is a play on that, but also because it is the second free[LAN]cer LAN party we have had:
Have you tried making your gradient out of the shards (so like, each shard is a solid colour)?
This idea is worth trying out but I quite like the contrast with angular lines vs. horizontal
Banner / logo I made for this years DND campaign: (Their adventuring group is the Bastards. Background map is a hand-drawn map of the continent they are on, and the logotype is the sketched one that I posted a while back which I finally got around the drawing in illustrator. Its a bit quirky in places, but I kind of like the homebrew look of it.):

Perhaps making it slightly less black, or decreasing the saturation of the red? [editline]7th May 2017[/editline] try flipping the background image upside down you know what the more I look at it the more I like it

Maybe give the background a tint of red? The former is definitely better, but I think that wordmark looks better in white.
Have you tried making your gradient out of the shards (so like, each shard is a solid colour)?
I believe I tried that for the old version but it didn't come out nice. I'll do a quick thing for the new one to see if that's the case. [editline]8th May 2017[/editline] Ohhhh I like how it looks I'm pretty happy with v2 but I might ask around a bit first before locking it in.
That definitely works better. I see the style you were going for in Old and New V1 but at small sizes, it would probably be unnoticeable. Now the transitions are much clearer and makes more sense visually
I did the bar gradient thing because vector gradients don't translate well when printed and that was my way around it. looks like I'm gonna have to update my avatar now.
v2 tells me sleek new modern company (but slightly average) and v1 tells me unique, indie, tech-savyish group. edit: they're both good, but it's a matter of if you want the "professional/successful" look vs the "small operation/trustworthy and honest" look. I find this hard to explain.
v2 looks nice, i like they you threw in a bit of a reddish tone. to me the colors still look a bit dull, you should try brightening them a bit unless that's what you're going for.

The concept is good, but I think the inconsistency of the geometry is what's causing it to lack polish a bit. It was definitely a good idea to simplify it.
Just screwin' around in the small amount of free time I have. Just watched Ghost in the Shell and wanted to make a cyber-punk / neon sign style type treatment for our gaming group. Could add the brackets in in a cool way (our tag is the[group].), but I didn't want to bother with the 30 mins I had to do something. [t]http://i.imgur.com/y9TI061.jpg[/t]
Decided to expand it into a font, its got some quirks and I certainly didn't put too much time into it, but I kind of like it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/dIlyzSx.jpg[/t]

Sure, haven't had time to make it into actual glyphs yet, here is the Illustrator file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/prrra7rxdhd8x5i/Lado_Acheson_Font.ai?dl=0 --- If you use it in something I'd love to see.

that looks pretty slick but have you tried different colors on that bad boy i've been hesitant to post all this because i had no idea what was going on but now it's kind of funny. the graphic designer at the company i was interning at moved to another company so they put me in place of her and now i'm the head graphic designer lol. they even got another intern. in two weeks i might even become a co-owner of the business if things keep going my way. they're still paying me intern wages though and i feel like they're taking advantage of me and i have no idea how to deal with that.
