To be honest I find there to be an enourmes design clash between the cars and the stuff that you put around them, just fixing the fonts and the colors doesn't really seem enough. I'd suggest you look at promotional material published by the car manufacturers themselves to find some ways of injecting information around these cars that seem more natural.
I kind of had the idea of changing fonts and colors in between manufacturers. I'll look into it. Anyways, some updates. [t]http://i.imgur.com/GMt9khc.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/j9QPbWT.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/pfsB0JU.png[/t]
dont use impact remove the text stroke
honestly i think you should go off and learn the basics before any further attempts at this. you need to be doing a lot of practice on your own. there's a lot of fundamentally wrong things in every revision, and i'm not having a go, i just think it's not going to get to a nice looking state in the process you're doing.
they're having me make videos at work now
To the point. Gets the job done and no needless fluff.
Nice and clean! But is that going to be a standalone video? Seems like something that would work more as a social media gif or a bookend to something longer.
That's the bit that was uploaded to instagram, the actual video has a bit more content. Here's the rough cut if you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0RJGjfjtW8 I still need to refilm the bits at the end and maybe add some audio or something.
Since I'm interested in lofi stuff lately, I've been wondering what combination of effects makes a picture look like it's been taken through a CRT or VCR or something? Imagine something like how Cuphead does it, [thumb]http://studiomdhr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Cuphead_E3_06-1024x576.jpg[/thumb] but I have no idea where to start. I think the closest I got was shifting the RGB layers around.
Seems like a mixture of chromatic abberation, subtle blur, and a bit of film grain You could also look into Red Giant's Universe VHS plug in. http://www.redgiant.com/user-guide/universe/vhs/
I spent ages earlier today explaining to a client why having a play on words without any context is a bad thing in a brand name, and how it can cause confusion. He was wanting something like T'one or T-one fitness as his branding name, with the play on words being "Type One" because he's a diabetic PT, but can't even teach diabetics. I can only see it causing confusion when someone wants to get in contact. "Do I call this business tone fitness, or tee one fitness, or type one fitness?", for example. People don't like to feel dumb like that. At the same time, he also wanted a blue O in the wordmark, the symbol for diabetes. Which is fine, and I quite like the idea. I suggested that I could try extrapolating the blue O into something a bit more and getting rid of the confusing play on words. He seemed to understand where I was coming from, agreeing how confusion could come out of it. I get a message later on saying the concept I did up with the play on words was the winner, but also to change the I in fitness to a dumbell. It's like holy fuck how many tropes do you want in a single logo. Tried explaining a bit more, how less is sometimes more, and get the sentence "But nobody will be looking at this as a designer." back, and "The customer is always right" (Spoilers: I'm doing this for free, he's not a fucking customer). People are the worst part of working creatively, honestly. /design rant
Huehuehue. Get fucked.
(Spoilers: I'm doing this for free, he's not a fucking customer).
There's your problem, freebies never really work out that well. [editline]8th August 2017[/editline] First time I tried doing a freebie it started with a logo, didn't get much feedback on the first designs. Then during our meeting I'm asked to make a website, do photography and videography etc. You can already guess things didn't work out. In other words: give them your hand and they'll take your arm. That was the only time I tried a freebie, not only does it do damage to yourself because it is a waste of time. It also damages the professional lives of anyone working in the field.
I generally only do freebies these days as fun personal projects, the person I'm doing it for doesn't know until I send something to them. Then sometimes they use it, sometimes they don't, but I had fun working on it either way.
This is a logo I made for the Graphic Design company I want to open in the future, some people told me it's too complicated for a logo but I like it how it is.
Print it on a business card and legal letter format and see what happens when your logo gets shrunk to a few centimeters. Short answer: they were right.
judging from that work i'm not sure you should be starting a graphic design business, unless you just intend to bankroll it
I agree with most of what has been said above. However, on a more positive note, the work that you have posted shows a growing understanding of and experimentation with the fundamentals. Creating effect / filter rich images like those you posted is exactly how I started to self teach. They are very useful for learning the tools. At some point though, you need to look up the principles of graphic design and be very intentional about applying them. Additionally, I would suggest some dedicated logo design / illustration practice with just the pen tool. Or heck, just sketching in a sketchbook. No effects, only 1 colour, every little edge becomes important to the symbol. The composition is one of the hardest parts of design to learn. - As a follow-up, some constructive criticism of your logo: - there is a strange hierarchy of elements. Nothing seems to be obviously the most important. The name, arrow, and mountain details all have about the same size and emphasis. Either the name needs to be much bigger and relatively equal in strength to the rest of the logo combined, or the symbol (non-text) needs to be very strong, very iconic, to the point that no title is even necessary (think McDonalds "m"). Often this is only possible after a logo has become well known and the title can be dropped, but if you have a clever icon, people may be able to figure out the title from the symbol itself (a dumb example would be half a sun merged with half a house would make people think "sun house" or "hot house." You can be so much more clever than that though, using negative space etc.) - the symbol right now is overlay complex as well. There is a mountain (divided into 2 parts), a very separate arrow, and the title. Either remove some of these elements or find a way to make them more integrated. The arrow especially. - the title, if it was going to stay where it is, needs more padding around the edges. - the mountain itsslf is asymmetrical and very irregular. This can be okay, but for your logo i would suggest a more regular structure to it. This will help simplify the logo too. (Maybe try to make the mountain 1 colour as well?) - this may just be a personal rule, but I would try to achieve the desired shapes and effects of the logo without a border before adding a border. (The little gray edge defining the left side of the mountain is small ans awkward and likely not necessary if you try out some other options (playing with single colours, negative space, etc.) - start trying to think of ways to combine things. For instance, could the head of the arrow be a mountain peak? Hope all this helps! Keep it up.
I have a logo in the works that's pretty similar. It's supposed to be mt fuji but I don't think it's that recognizable so it might get tossed.
~Thanks for the input.~
That's a pretty good little trace, but it might be better suited to the 2D digital art thread. They would be able to give better criticism and appreciation for that kind of work I think.
the width tool in illustrator is a very handy tool for tracing art like that. I started trying out affinity designer and it seems like it's just illustrator with less features. Is there anything that sets it apart? It's a bit frustrating right now since there are a couple of common tasks without keyboard shortcuts and the usual learning curve of new software. the built in raster editing mode is cool i guess, and the fact that it's a viable option is nice too. I might buy it since it's so cheap but I doubt I'll be using it much.

Good for dnd maps and the like. -- Some stuff I've been fiddling around with in my free time for fun. A doodle logo/font for Menter (of Facepunch Fame). He does a lot of Fantasy / Medieval style illustration and painting, so I wanted a strong monograph that would evoke some of that essence. The different versions are built up of lines / shading techniques indicative of woodblock cuts and subtle medieval / gothic architectural and illuminated manuscript gestures. I wanted it to look kind of like a seal that would be stamped into wax (hence the circle version). I like it quite a bit, but I think the newest version (the main one shown in this mock-up) seems kind of like a high-end men's suit / business mark. Maybe it is the 'pinstripe' effect. What do you think, am I wrong? Does it work either way? Is it because the monograph is placed between the first and last name? It might work better with the names center aligned underneath. [t]http://i.imgur.com/SZnnI6G.png[/t] -- Some revamped avatars with the[group]. logo I made awhile back. Had a lot of fun with gradients (there are like 20 other versions which all look pretty good, but I'll just post these two. It's only an iterative improvement, but considering I haven't touched my personal professional site since 2015, my logo needed some updating. What do you guys think? Original: New: On the new website, the color palette for headers, sub-headings and the body are all driven off of the fill colors of these SVGs. (That also means the colors are subject to change, and they probably will.) The lettering on the original is actually 100% hand-done, that isn't a font, but on the new one it's a slightly modified Halis Rounded.

The sharp 'N' sticks out a bit, though. Also, I think the kerning could be slightly improved, the N and T seem closer than the H, I and N. I love that green though, always have
I blame Photoshop for the kerning, I wrote that text up in the type tool, convert to shape, then throw it in Illustrator to modify the E. I agree that it seems a bit off though, Photoshop's kerning doesn't seem to enjoy visual balance at all. I find that I often have to convert my type to shape so I can manually position the lettering - I just never got that far with this logo quite yet.
Here's what I've been working on in my spare time. This is for a university club and we're looking for a design that we can change up for different seasons and events. Also, in order to sell t-shirts we might get a handful with just the outlines and have people apply their own dyes.
i would try not to use anything 'photographic' in a logo, like the watercolour you've used there. it doesn't translate well to much [editline]29th August 2017[/editline] and i'd try a different font, something sans serif, not italicized and probably in all caps
definitely agree on the font, but the watercolors should be fine since we'll be working digitally for the most part. For printed media and other purposes where it might not look good we'll just only use the outlines.
I'll just be blunt. The logo is great, i really like it. It is both a flower with an Asian style while creating 3 A's, awesome. Those options don't look very good though. The water colour splotches are messy and only minutely relate to the shape of the logo / flower. The logo being slightly transparent is currently not looking very good and the colours need some work (between the logo and the watercolour). My suggestion would be to use the logo more as the structure / inspiration for its variants. Maybe make a solid version (inverted version of the current) and have the fill texture change for each season so that the texture has a solid and identifiable frame? Alternatively, go the opposite route and make the watercolour much bigger. Then subtract the logo from it. Logo is great, variations not too good, from your previous work I would be confident you can find a better way.
