I think the 8 needs a fedora to be perfect.
Nah, its good, i like it. I think the tilt is a bit heavy on the right, but apart from that, i like the simplicity.
Agree with the circle around it.
How would it look if you give the top part of the 8 a left facing, uh, "bar" so you kinda get "8" "pod"? (yes, actually "pd" but w/e)

I think the circle around the 8 looks the best. That combined with the bottom layout would look cool.
so after reading these I came up with this:

don't know if that top circle is too small or

Really like it. I might give it a little more padding in the circle if you are going to use. I for one like it without the circle, circles make a logo seem so much more standardized. Obviously it helps to account for strange logo shapes, but I think there are other ways around that, type placement, etc.
My personal selection would be the newest logo iteration with the layout and colours of the bottom block in the first post of this page.

That Circle isn't particularly needed anyway tbf but does make it bolder.
A lot of logos nowadays have different styles but as long as the main shame is there, people will identify it.
I like the aspect of symmetry that having the logo in place of the second O brings. Though maybe I would round off the corners of the tails, and the emblem itself doesn't look 100% centered in the circle?
I thought about the rounded corners, but I think the logo matches the typeface around it better with the legs staying sharp, might be worth trying either way.

i don't know about the rounded corners thing

and yeah, the logo isn't 100% centered, but I don't know which direction to adjust it

Maybe it is centered but the imbalanced negative space is throwing me off.
I would adjust a bit to the left, and a bit less downwards.
[editline]2nd March 2015[/editline]
Also the rounded corners would probably look good standalone but defenitely not inlaid in a circle.
I'm just going to come out and say that the round corners are bleh. It relates so much better to the rest of the logo / typework with the straight corners imo.
Also, I feel bad not posting stuff here in a while, working a full time job unrelated to branding I don't have too many recent projects to show and I have shown most other things.
Here are some logos I entered for my Faculty's annual clothing competition.
I won in 2012 (which I've shown before and is on my website), but 2013 and 2014 didn't.

(For anyone unfamiliar with architecture, the shapes of this one are drawing symbols, the top one being an elevation marker, on a drawing they will usually have numbers or letters in them. Also, not sure why it went half-toneish when I scaled it.)

I love the bottom left one.
The shadow use of negative space is brilliant!
also, i tried doing a quick wallpaper or whatever:

is it better / the same / worse than the last one I did?

agree with this guy, I like the bottom left one too. The first one is also pretty cool, but it took me awhile to pick up that the A was a tip of a pencil.

Your logo has just reminded me of Dre Beats logo and now i can't see anything different :(
I think the new logo on the old background would make the most sense. Octopod definitely gives me more of an underwater vibe than a forest street haha.
Here are a few logos that i did for my interview, he really enjoyed them.

not a huge fan of the transparency levels on the design. the blown highlights on the logo thing are very distracting.
i would either reduce the contrast on the text and logo or make them a solid colour
I have been making some logos for side cash.
What do y'all think?

(Last 2 are for the same client. Second doesn't have text for reasons, but supposed to be inspired by waves. All drafts.)

Also all done in Photoshop, I really want Illustrator again though. Vectors in PS suck.

I'm sorry.
I am not proud to admit I have learned many tricks with editing vectors in Photoshop.
Although my favorite feature circa CS6 is the ability to merge paths into one path. So if you are subtracting a path from a shape, you can merge paths and it'll consolidate it into one single path.
Nice work though! The Providence one reads quite well if I do say so. Good unity between the different elements of the logo mark. Type could fit a bit better, but it gets the job done!
Everything in this thread is so good!! Fantastic work guys

I still prefer the last one over the new one.
Client didn't like my initial draft of the Turbine, so I came up with this:

However, don't know if I like either of these any more:

I think the 6-bladed one honestly is my favorite, since it's a pretty neat looking contrast between positive and negative space.

They look more like buzzsaws/blackholes to me, i think its the shape of the "blades".
Also i think that instead of the bold black, maybe do a charcoal colour? or is that the colour they wanted?
It's not 100% black, it's #1d1d1d. I don't like working in pure black and white. They're open to any color combination, so long as it looks good dark on light and light on dark.
It would be a lot easier to try more shapes of blades if there was a way to snap the pivot point to guidelines.

please get illustrator, it'll make your life so much easier
[editline]4th March 2015[/editline]
(nice work though!)
I still have like 6 months left on my current 1 year agreement with Adobe so IDK if I can get it ASAP
Still, mostly just doing this for some quick side cash. I wouldn't use Illustrator all that much so I think I will deal
6 Bladed is definitely the best of those 3. What about trying to do the turbine from different perspectives rather than head on though? Will add dynamism for sure and offers opportunity to add subtle effects of movement etc.

A rule i learned was this
Photoshop - Photo editing, manipulations and web graphics
Illustrator - Logos, icons, print graphics.
InDesign - Print.
can be simplified to:
Photoshop - raster
Illustrator - vector
InDesign - print (which is a loving combination of both!)
Hey, need some help with IDing this font
Despite the fact that:
"it was forbidden to use modern design or sans-serif typefaces such as Futura, which Goebbels called a “Jewish invention.”"
the Nazis employed Sans serif on some war materials, specifically tank gun reticles and ammunition packages. I'd like to know what the font is.
