Those are fantastic. I could definitely see the second one on a billboard, on a bus stop, etc. Something about the central white text is throwing me off though.

illustration of some wallets i'm designing/making as a portfolio piece. i'm really unhappy with the ambiguity of the slots, but i can't think of a better way to communicate them. also at this size the low contrast between the stitching and the body makes it difficult to resolve the stitching.
for clarification, they're the slots you can see at the end of this video. the orthogonal ones are for cash and the diagonal ones are for cards.

Could you add either a slight gradient to this body to show it lifting slightly?
Could you have just the edge of a card (like a pocket square) sticking out of one or all of the slots?
I'm not sure the stitching is actually a big problem if it is black in real life too.

I'll definitely try the pocket square/card thing, I didn't think of anything like this!
And for the gradient, do you mean sort of highlights around the outside of the stitching? I was thinking about doing a gradient on the stitching itself, but I couldn't reconcile a common light source since it's a brush on a path. Doing it on the leather itself could work though, I think.
And technically the stitching is a very dark brown, but it's so similar in color to the leather in real life that it's really only visible because of the highlights haha. Probably a better solution to that issue would be to use a different stain. :v:
Thanks for those ideas though!

Made a little proof of concept video of a website design. It was done with After Effects and most of the images are placeholders.
The idea of it is to be a showcase for student works from my animation program and promote the club activities.
Thoughts?
Looks simple (in a good way) yet effective. I hope people use it. I tried something similar in my program and didn't get any submissions, too busy I guess.
Would anybody here be willing to make a few fake brands/store logos for a map I'm working on? I don't need anything involved or in-depth, just some store names and logos for stores like the ones you would find in malls or in downtown areas.
Of course anybody willing to help out would be credited. I'm not looking for paid-quality work here, I just thought it'd be cool to get some community involvement with this project.

Here's a little poster I made for school a few weeks ago. It has plenty of flaws and stuff like that, and the background image isn't original, but I'd like to see your dudes criticism, so I can improve my future designs.

- Font feels cheesy to me for some reason, but really not an issue, just more of a personal thing to me probably.
- Font is really detailed and has to much going on. It makes it hard if not impossible to read at a distance, and saying a posters job is to grab attention, this isn't what you want. It would be fine for the larger text like the title, but it's bad in places like the white text.
- Backgrounds really busy, again, making the text hard to read.
Agree with everything above me plus:
Everything is so detailed / crazy that the poster comes off pretty 1 note. Poster design needs balance and like I've said previously should have at least 3 layers of information that all read clearly from increasingly closer distances. (1st level is the "shiny" or bold / crazy thing that draws people to the poster from a distance, 2nd is the critical information, 3rd is tertiary information)
The 5th of June Activities font is too dark against the dark black splotch which looks bad also.
I think a lighter border would be nicer than a dark red border and would help the text to stand out a little bit more.
Due to your treatment of the text, it reads as "Pure Wrath" from a distance with "N" and "S" as weird separate letters, and the "A" disappearing entirely.
The taglines within the border feel very crowded and would probably be cut off during printing. Try giving the text a bit more breathing room.
I realize not all of these posters are practical or effective at displaying information, but look at these and be inspired:

Agreed with above.
Font needs changing. I suggest do one main feature font for the title, this can be a little more creative.
And then basic font for details so its more legible.
Also, like someone else mentioned. Background is a little too busy, everything just fights to get attention when the main attention is meant to be the details

That font is awful, never touch something like that. If you wish to have a splatter logo then you're better off custom making it, as the whole charm that hand writings randomness gives is lost when you see a letter repeat.
As far as the rest of the text goes, you'd be better off picking something readable.

That's an odd font on the second one, it's like helvetica but with open terminals. I guess that's not the point tho, but it is missing a contextual ligature for F and I

Sorry for never coming back to it! I don't see the off put you're talking about but against everyone will always feel iffy about everything they see. But thank you for your feedback
I got my marks back for that though, 88/100 :)

Glad to hear! :)
Does anyone know of any decent ways to do text like this in photoshop? Right now it's a total mess of paths and rasterized layers so it's completely inconsistent, lighting's everywhere as well. Attempted making something like it in blender but it turns out that's fucking difficult as well.

Ever since CS6 Extended, Photoshop has had extrusion and some other 3D tools. I've never personally used it, but I know it's there. Short of that, After Effects also has very extensive 3D tools if you have access to it. I did use those once and it wasn't too difficult to figure out.
is there an easy way to pixelate gradients in photoshop?
im really into the systematic vandalising of property bc i think its cool to rebel, would it be acceptable to post some of my shit here so i can get critique from you peeps who know all this stuff about letterforms and placement and the like? im just kinda interested in seeing, from a designer's point of view what things are appealing, or not so, about scribles on walls

Try some of the filters like mosaic, etc. Or I believe there is a filter called pixelate? There should be an easy google search for this, I would help more, but am not near photoshop atm.

You can post it, but don't be surprised if people rate you dumb due to a) it be illegal and dumb, b) not graphic design. (That is without seeing it, you called it scribbles on walls which I imagine to be simple tags, but if it is legit grafitti or like Banksy stuff than that is different obviously.)

what do you mean by "legit graffiti" bc its not all about pieces and shit, i mean obvs im not going to be posting anything as intricate as this any time soon, but there's no denying that there's art in tags, take KANSER;
[img_thumb]http://handstyler.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/IMG_0834.jpg[/img_thumb]
Well ya, there is obviously a line to be drawn. For instance, compare his tag to the many beside it. One is a bold statement with some dynamics and greater intent to it than simply writing "mike was here," etc; lot more finesse and effort has gone into that one than the others. Essentially it has to be design and not just graphic.
You know what, ignore what I said in my other post. I was being a hard-ass. Tags deal heavily in type treatment and are legit graffiti, so go ahead and post them. I personally love everything about graffiti (disclaimer: as long as it is about the art of it rather than simply being a "rebel") and would love to see them / comment on them.
I guess I'm just used to a lot of people who do it simply doing shitty little tags with no effort and being all try-hard / only into it because its illegal and easy. Even though I don't partake myself, I was being elitist. Every day I commute I either drive by a train or get stopped waiting for one to cross and you get kind of spoiled being able to see hundreds of pretty decent full pieces a day with at least 1 per train container.
Hopefully I didn't offend anyone.

Could someone tell me how to remove this part of the line without ruining the rest of it? It's sat between 2 points of varying width, so I'd like to keep the width the same when the line is deleted.
Anybody think they can help me with some little 5 minute pictures? Im trying to make some shirts in 9 days but I have no access to Photoshop! The embroidery places need psd files, all I have is drawings. This is a career project for me..

What program are you working in? In Illustrator you expand / convert the line to a block and then subtract the part you want.
