and sorry, one LAST question to all of you that use film! How do you guys develop your film? Do you take it somewhere, or do you develop it yourself in your own darkroom at home? I just want to understand how the people that get it developed by someone else do post production editing. Like do you scan it and then take it into an editing program like lightroom? I'm so sorry, but I'm so new to film, so these might be absolutely dumb questions. I've been on digital my entire photography life.
B&W film I develop myself (I rarely shoot B&W though) Slide film & colour negatives I get developed by a lab. Slides only go to HEMA because they're the cheapest (3,50 for a roll) but colour negatives I prefer to get 1-hour developed in Rotterdam (3,70 for a roll with student discount). All of my 35mm film I scan with my Plustek Opticfilm 8100 35mm film scanner and Silverfast is the scanning software used. Photoshop is used for dust & scratch removal and colour correction (blue cast etc.).
and while I'm at it, would you be kind enough to tell me what lens setup you used for this shot? It's so gorgeous, man. I think I had this scanned by the lab, however I'm trying to do my own scans now using my V500 and the epson software. When I edit the scans via LR, I usually just add a bit of contrast.

(other than dropping the lens, obviously)
just be careful of scratching the lens, you could scratch the front element on the camera's mount or the back element when it's exposed. if you're worried about dropping the lens, you can get a reversing ring for cheap which mounts onto the camera on one end and screws onto the lens's filter thread on the other. a lens with a mechanical aperture dial works best though since you can't change the aperture on an EF lens with it detached.

I shot some pictures around Edinburgh this week, some in the morning but my best shots were at sunset. I just got my first DSLR (Canon EOS 60D with 18-135mm f3.5/f5.6 IM STM) after taking photos with my OnePlus One for the past 2 years. I need to practice more as my DoF isn't great and as I don't have a tripod yet I'm going to have to shoot at faster shutter speeds to stop blur. ooft buddy that's a strong start. where you've boosted the shadows with the brush tool is pretty obvious though it's always nice to see my home on the facepunch tho
Holy crap. That is some very impressive work. You've definitely got an eye for it.
ooft buddy that's a strong start. where you've boosted the shadows with the brush tool is pretty obvious though it's always nice to see my home on the facepunch tho
Yeah I'm conflicted about the brush/radial exposure increases. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I look back and think its too obvious and takes away from the scene. I'm only living in Edinburgh another 2 months before moving to America so I'm trying to take as many good photos as I can before then. The guy's on SomethingAwful agree about the halo's detracting from the image so I'll make sure to be more careful when doing that next time.

These were the first rolls I ever shot and out of 70 something crappy photos, these few appealed to me the most. Last one is yours truly.
