Good riddance tbh, he had skills but his constant shitposting was a total moodkiller.
Agreed, I noticed a lot of people were afraid of posting due to his attitude. One of my friends saw his posts after noticing my posts and decided to message him about it, and somehow Kirby thought I sent him to insult the guy when I didn't want any part of whatever drama that could have ensued from that. His arrogance was irritating af. Here's hoping people don't get bullied into whatever and we get ACTUAL critique and not passive aggressive jabs to bring others down. I had to stop myself from blowing up on the guy a few pages back because of his attitude.
its the only thing interesting that ever happens anyways
If you come in here for drama, it's probably best not to come in at all. This should be a place strictly for people to post content and for others to help them along the way and help them improve their art. It's stuff like this that brings in issues to begin with. But that about sums up my thoughts about this entire situation.
So I don't see a an art thread in this subforum that is about art that doesn't really fit in the traditional categories for which there are already threads.
Thus I'm not quite sure where to put this, just tell me if this is the wrong place.

I wanna redo this in the coming days for my art school application with a proper white background, any tips for improving the photos at least? (I only got a phone camera sadly, but it does have raw and decent manual settings)
There's this path by my house, and at one point, you can look straight down a hill and see the lake.

Step back a little bit, being so close is a little uncomfortable and I can't really take it all in. Use some better and brighter lights. Take some time in photoshop to do some minor adjustments like tweaking the contrast/saturation/white balance. A little bit of detail work goes a LONG long way when it comes to making your art look professional.
[editline].[/editline]
ALSO find the angle you like best and send in only one or two photos of it, as a general rule of thumb it's more professional to only supply as many photos as necessary to take in the entire piece
Last one for today, and then a nap.
I thought that this was pretty funny when I took a photo of it. :)

There's a point where you just have to give up. And that point is after five years of no improvement and singlehandedly ruining an entire photography community. No point fighting a losing battle. Later.
C'mon man. You didn't make kirby do anything, he's his own person with his own free will and it was his choice to behave that way in regards to your image.
Singlehandedly ruined this entire community? With one mediocre picture? You're blowing this way out of proportion man.
The only battle we're fighting here is against our own laziness and lack of motivation. Things that are worthwhile take effort. If you think that you haven't improved in 5 years then yes professional photography might not be for you, but then just shoot for yourself and the joy of it. But if you really do want to improve then bloody well do something about it! How do you think anyone else gains skill? Endless effort, dude. You wanna improve? Research other photographers, watch documentaries, stare at pictures you love for hours on end, read books about photography and of course - take photographs as much as possible.
I remember hearing about some top novel author (who's name escapes me now) wrote and still writes thousands and thousands of words per day to gain his skill and to learn his craft. The dedication is mindblowing, not mediocre.
Anyway just some food for thought. Don't give up so easily.

I know many of you probably wont agree but I think the idea is great. I could see people eating this concept up if the subject is a little more interesting and you found a better way to display it.

This almost starts to work as a set, I can really get into triptychs and anything visually light. But individually, as photos, I think the first and third are really insubstantial. I value nuance so I try to avoid oversimplifying anything in art, but the first photo is really just a macro photo of some stitched fabric and I'm afraid it's not very interesting. The third is better: the geometric background leads focus to the subject which is an unusual tool, a combination that has some merit. But, ultimately, it's hardly more stimulating than any other pseudo-macro photography, like if you had taken a photo of a wristwatch or a toothbrush. Maybe I'm being unnecessarily harsh because I really don't like macro photography, but even purely from a subject standpoint they are both on the "take photos of texture for a school assignment" end of the spectrum.
I do enjoy the second photo. Maybe I'm stupid, but the hand immediately drew my focus which caused me to neglect the details at the top ultimately leading me to believe someone out of the frame had their hand on a bed sheet. The reality that it was a person with their hand behind their back was a revelation to me and I really appreciate that, if that was your intention at all. Plus the appeal to symmetry and aversion of the "off-frame person holding some colorful thing" trend is better than the other way around.
Don't take any of this the wrong way. I think you've posted a lot of good work lately and the overall volume of your photography is enviable, but I was underwhelmed by this set and I thought you might consider my thoughts in the future.

thanks a bunch, I appreciate your critique and thoughts! I totally get what you mean with 1st and 3rd not being that substantial in of themselves, I wanted them more as complementary for the middle photo.
My first intent was to play around with the second and the third one since I felt they corresponded in a way. I like the second one most myself; the contours of the shoulders/neck, the hand pointing up toward the seam, centered.
I wanted to bring more of that with the second one; pointy, sharp. Also I liked how the edge of dark paper is leading up to the contour of the neck, but it's ofc not aligned perfectly and I could rotate/crop that.
For all three together as a trip my intent was more to tell a sequence, the picture of the fabric with two seams; the hand pointing at the seam; then a tool from the process needed to make that.
Although the order is fabric-hand-tool more because I liked focusing the hand between two other pictures (and also made more sense to have object-human-object).
I'm not that satisfied at all as a triptych, I'm just "trying some things" really.
And showing stuff here keeps me going a bit more. Totally guilty of wanting some quick affirmation from others here also!
Post stuff - hope to get ratings - then leave. I feel I really should start asking for more C&C and be more serious with myself in that regard
Now that's not all I have to say about these and your feedback but I'm not the best at articulating this in english/written word right now, but thanks again!
They are photos from a quick shoot for a job to photograph the process of a clothing line and company taking form that a friend of mine is starting.
An idea is to have all the photos to be initially in b&w and gradually in color as the company/clothing is settling in further, blossoming out.
Here's some more from that day if anyone's interested!

Ha, now I feel silly for trying to be analytical about a quick experimental shoot. But yeah, a big part of this thread is supposed to be C&C. No one is above it. And it can be a significant factor in how we progress as photographers, so I think we should welcome it.
That you mentioned why you went BW is funny, I was going to make a comment about how I don't like making things BW unless it enhances them somehow (usually in contrast-y situations, I'm a bit old-fashioned in that way I suppose) and then ask you why you chose to convert, but I took it out because I didn't want to seem bitchy. :v: I think that's a pretty cool idea, and in the context of business social media it could work really well. And, now that I know they're going to be for storytelling, I can also see the value of photos 1 and 3 from the first set.
If you continue working with your friend on their clothing line, check out this project which is a personal favorite of mine.
