This is a very fun thread to look at. I'll post some of my own stuff, insecure about it as I may be about it Colourful Tree by Alon Shechter, on Flickr I like taking pictures of mundane brown things, turning up that vibrance slicer in Lightroom, and seeing all the hidden colour popping out. Everything's so colourful in nature, its's just too subtle for the naked eye to see. Shapes - Tired Watchers by Alon Shechter, on Flickr Not a very technically impressive photo of course but when I looked at it I immediately imagined guardians, tired, backs hunched from exhaustion, standing at their posts eternally. If it so quickly conjures up a story in my head it must be worth something, right? At least on a personal level. I'd say so. I followed them, my D7100 with a Series E manual focus 50mm lens in hand, and took lots of pictures as they stopped to chew on everything in the park. They didn't mind me as long as I didn't get too close. Rest of the shots I played around with some funky colour editing, which in retrospect looks pretty cheesy and doesn't do any good to the shots.
I'll post some of my own stuff, insecure about it as I may be about it
hey we've all been there dude
i don't really know how to do that kinda stuff, and i don't wanna make htem look like something they are not! thank you very much though!
I've always thought it's better to really understand the basics of photography before you get into editing. It keeps you from having to worry about too much at once, so you can just focus on learning one thing at a time. It's not overwhelming that way. That said, what you do with the picture after you've taken it is just as important as what's in your lens to begin with. I think most people here would agree with me when I say that editing isn't about making something look like something it isn't, but making a picture look more like itself. Everyone's editing style is something of a reflection of their personality, it's part of what makes a picture uniquely theirs. It isn't something to worry about now, but maybe something to think about long-term. I didn't edit anything for my first few years in the hobby.

I do it because I think it makes my work more visually complete. It's more work, sure, but I think the aesthetic is worth pursuing. It also gives me a chance to think about my pictures, to see what I'm doing differently, and to evaluate my work. It's the difference between snapshot photography and art photography. Both are legitimate forms of artistic expression, but one focuses purely on subject while the other allows the photographer to introduce an element of artistry that he directly controls. Some people like that, some people don't. Do whatever feels right, see where it takes you.

Some stuff from my latest roll, what do you guys think?. Shooting with a Pentax MX, so it's full manual. I've been learning a lot, still have a lot of trouble with manual focus though. Favorite part of the whole experience is developing the film myself.

Bokeh, dude. Fireworks out of focus will always look awesome. EDIT: Also, yes--it was very fun. ...And I was very drunk...
How do you do it
How do you do it
The further the background is from the focused subject, the closer you are to the subject, the longer the focal length, the bigger the sensor size, and the bigger the aperture is (smaller f/ number) the more background blur you will get. Play with this online camera simulator to get a feel.
How do I have it on 3ds
How do I have it on 3ds
If you can focus on something with the 3Ds then you can begin experimenting with putting subjects as I described above (close to the camera, subject further away from the background). But as it all can depend on lens, the cost effective way would be getting a magnifying glass. (or even a single lens element, maybe from an old broken camera lens) By covering half of the camera with a magnifying glass, you can sorta make half of the image blurred out. Of course to get a straight edge between focused and non focused area, you need to cut the magnifying glass in half: [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/gebxht.jpg[/t] [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/cpzejl.jpg[/t] It's crude, but it could work out for you. [editline]5th July 2017[/editline] This kind of hackery was also used in movies.

I think my sisors aren't sharp enough for cutting that, but I think I will look for a magnify glass to try it thank you
I don't understand how do i send the aperture on my iphone? what size is my sensor?
If you want to set the aperture on an iPhone, download a manual camera app from the app store.
If you want to set the aperture on an iPhone, download a manual camera app from the app store.
Okay! Thank you! And i looked up, focal length is like how much you zoom? So i'll get more blurry backgrounds if i zoom in first, right?
Okay! Thank you! And i looked up, focal length is like how much you zoom? So i'll get more blurry backgrounds if i zoom in first, right?
I mean, I wouldn't really recommend zooming with an iPhone (unless you have the 7 Plus, but even then) because an iPhone tends to use "digital zoom". Look it up on Google, I really don't wanna explain it right now.
I think my sisors aren't sharp enough for cutting that, but I think I will look for a magnify glass to try it thank you
Or even a half-frame strong (diopter +/-1) reading glass could do the same so you don't have to cut glass: [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/xxucug.jpg[/t] [editline]5th July 2017[/editline]
Okay! Thank you! And i looked up, focal length is like how much you zoom? So i'll get more blurry backgrounds if i zoom in first, right?
Smartphones are fixed focal length (due to size constraints), which means that the zoom feature you get with the camera software actually worsens the image quality (you can do the same with an image editor). You could mess with the focal length by getting these clip-on lens like this: [t]https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1Cqa5OFXXXXbcaXXXq6xXFXXXD/Professional-2-in-1-49mm-0-45X-Wide-Angle-font-b-Lens-b-font-Macro-font.jpg[/t]. this clip-on macro lens theoretically achieves something like this: [t]https://www.dpreview.com/files/p/articles/0012715474/macro.png[/t] I don't know how cheap/expensive these things are. [editline]5th July 2017[/editline] If the geometry of Nintendo 3DS allows these clip-ons, Sockpuppets could use that too.
The iPhone has a fixed aperture of around f/2.4. The only real way to get any kind of bokeh there is to focus on something really close to the lens (6-12"), lock focus, and then shoot something far away (10'+). Here's a guide. Also, generally speaking, those clip-on lenses aren't worth the price for the quality of magnification you receive. Your mileage may vary.
And as always, distance to the subject can make all the difference: [t]http://userscontent2.emaze.com/images/ef56c9e2-54a1-4c3f-ae42-f2fdff2a60b1/c5a8934a-9f9d-4869-b74f-a6f58bf67622.jpg[/t] I should stop giving bad advice tho :v:
