Boring is what I think if you didn't make statue yourslf
Huh. Turns out it was another stupid alt. The fuck is wrong with those guys? Anyway, on topic: I'm never sure quite where I stand on pictures of statues. Do you think having a pre-posed subject compromises the intent?
depending on the sculpture, i feel that it's very much akin to photographing a painting. based on what little i know of the scene from your photo, it seems that the only decision you really needed to make was a bit of composition while all the other variables, including posing which you mentioned, were predestined. regardless of intent, the magnitute of potential creativity is quite small. anyone could arrive at anytime and take the same photo without thinking much about it. sometimes, different types of art and outdoor settings subject the photographer and their subject to more variables, which means more decision making and more creativity. obviously it's more complicated than that, but that's what i think! you are an alt of a perma-ban-me yourself, so probably best to not go pointing fingers.
Jesus, does everyone know about that? I suppose that's fair. I'd at least like to think I've been less of an ass since that happened. I've tried, anyway. But that's neither here nor there. I think you're right about the statues, it's hard to get a truly original take on that kind of subject, and mine's about the furthest thing from original.
A photograph of a statue indoors with the same lighting are indeed hard to make something interesting of. But my opinion is that if the statue is somewhere where light can differ or there's something else to the picture than just the statue, like a cone put on it's head or a scarf around it's neck or bird on it and so on, the picture can stand on it's own even though the main subject is the statue. I've grown quite fond of this picture even though very little skill was involved in making it. I'd love to hear what you have to say regardless if it's positive or negative. I really like the contrast of the thing in (somewhat) sharp focus and things being out of focus being equally far away from the camera, and the lines created from the out of focus parts. He actively encourages discussion and leave thought out comments while Kirby and Trog are quite toxic and basically just shitpost and troll.
I think it's best if we leave the dead alone, right? No reason to go around bashing them if they're already gone. Just report the alts and trolls, and we can all move on with our lives.
What you can do is if its street shots, you can always include the human subjects with the statue.

I actually like that HDR shot the most. It has just right amount of softness to be in focus but not in a distracting way, and it immediately made me think of David Lynch.
The only problem with film is that it's more of a hassle. For me personally it's an hour's drive to both buy and develop film. If it was more convenient I wouldn't shoot digital at all, I far prefer the soft film 'look'. My Nikon FG is gathering dust :(
Try ordering film online, most of the time it's cheaper than store bought film. You could develop your own film. It's not that hard and cuts down developing costs. Plenty of really good tutorials out there. It's quite a bit of work ofcourse.
Developing B&W yourself is really easy and cheaper than sending it to a lab. Color on the other hand is more annoying, but you can still do it if you want.
The only real annoyance with C-41 is maintaining a constant temperature for your developer, otherwise I find that it's a bit easier since the dev time is standardized across all film no matter the manufacturer or ISO (unless you push or pull, of course, or if you wanna get real wacky and do stand dev).

I love ya Jaanus, but those to me seem far too artificial and overprocessed. Like, those are the kind of shots that are "technically" good and will get you plenty of work and acclaim but also just look like the dictionary definition of their genre.
Hi Mister Beetle! Beetle by Julian M., on Flickr
That's a nice beetle. As for Jaanus's work, I think there's a time and place where that kind of long exposure waterfront landscape thing works really well. I really like the second one. As a series, they all feel kind of samey, but considering they're all interpretations of the same subject, that makes sense. I don't think it's a crime to use that technique, by any means, and those are very skillfully composed. I could almost make a greater artistic argument that not every photograph has to be unique, that there is some value in this kind of mass produced aesthetic, but I dropped out of art school before I became qualified to do that. Ultimately, they're not original and they don't say anything new, but I think there is that philosophical question of whether or not they even have to. I know that's all a little bit navel gazy, but what do you guys think?
They're very well done though even if its not an original concept.

A little slow to edit, this is the first time I've attempted to photograph fireworks. Some of them came out well, others not so well, I'm glad large memory cards are a thing. Some of your shots are similar enough that you probably could have slimmed down the selection further. 4 and 6 are basically the same photo, and 5 might as well be.
snip because new page i think you can do that
A little slow to edit, this is the first time I've attempted to photograph fireworks. Some of them came out well, others not so well, I'm glad large memory cards are a thing.
I agree with Biscuit Boy about paring down those fireworks shots. They could use some cropping too, the first one for example doesn't look very balanced since it's at the top of the frame, I'd crop it to a square with the firework in the center. I like the shot of the people standing in front of the firework, but straighten out your horizon and maybe crop off some of the empty space on the left side.
reposting for new page because I'm a butt two lil ones that I also like but I don't think are as good. They just fit together nicely. Bought a 35mm camera a while back, sent off my film to get developed about 2 and a half months ago, it was only supposed to take two weeks. At last, they're finally here, and these are some of my favorites. I was bored and decided to be stupid with my phone again (Oneplus One) Really hard to keep it steady enough for crisp shots, it was the best I could do without using a tripod or something I'm sure if I set the shutter speed to a really fast setting and put a flashlight directly into it it would come out better, this was at 1/50 shutter speed
