If you have a spare lens around you can turn it around and shoot through it to get fancy macro pics.

The shadows on the second one need a visit IMO. Left one is good and actually belongs in the pic, the ones on the wall not so much.
Her face on the second one could use a bit more brightening to make it consistent with the other two pics.
But thats nitpicking.

Agreed, the 1st and 3rd have a nice friendly glow, whereas the second one seems harsh and dark comparatively.
It fits her expression IMO but it depends on whether you use the shots in composite or not but I guess that's up to your editor not you so maybe get that info, I dunno, I only ever had shots used by a magazine one time and that was pro bono and "can I use them" "yeah" "mkay"-> boing online

First one, the top left hand corner's blurred PC (I guess?) is rather distracting.
Third is my favourite.
I'm going to guess you had a bare speedlite with some trigger to set it remotely. Lighting seems kinda harsh. Are you using any diffuser on your off camera flash?
She works at the university of Dundee right?
Think I saw a documentary she was in about the remains of an executed family in a medieval village or something like that.

two speedlites radio triggered, one with a softbox umbrella thing on it, the other bare. softbox is on her, bare does background

Ahh okay, now I see why the light is soft on her but the background is harsher.
The light on her is more pleasing, but I'm not the biggest fan of the harsh light on the background. Then again, its probably just me
it's how i do all my portraits, one soft light one hard light

Fireworks seem difficult to capture when you only have really a few angles, cropping would help. I'll go through these again and see what I can change. Maybe new years I might have something better for you all.
