also while I'm sharing my useless opinions: it irritates the hell out of me when people shoot film but process the shit out of it in photoshop. like why the hell shoot film?
I'm interested in examples of this because I can't fathom what overprocessed / edited film photos would even look like in the first place.
I don't think that's totally correct. Film stocks differ greatly in colour density, saturation, latitude, sharpness and the fineness of the grain. The film type is a huge factor in how your images will end up looking. I find its less about the camera and more about the film stock & lens quality
Also, I read how a 35mm film has higher resolution than a digital 35mm. But I've also heard it varies, depending on train and noise and the scanner
Also, I read how a 35mm film has higher resolution than a digital 35mm. But I've also heard it varies, depending on train and noise and the scanner
Wtf is a digital 35mm, are you talking about sensor seizes?
also while I'm sharing my useless opinions: it irritates the hell out of me when people shoot film but process the shit out of it in photoshop. like why the hell shoot film?
Because it slows you down and makes you think more about the shot you're about to take? Because color negatives offer greater exposure latitude than digital? Because there are ultra low ISO films and orthochromatic films and infrared films that you can't easily replicate digitally? Because there are no mass produced digital cameras that match the resolution of large format film? Because you prefer the experience of shooting on vintage mechanical cameras over modern electronic ones? I dunno, there's lots of reasons to shoot film other than some weird purist "film is realer than digital" perspective. It's not like the concept of Photoshop is a new thing, people have been doing color correction and dodging and burning and even comping images together in the darkroom for decades before digital editing existed. If people want to shoot film and edit their shots in Photoshop who cares? If they end up with a final image they're happy with that's all that matters.
I'm interested in examples of this because I can't fathom what overprocessed / edited film photos would even look like in the first place.
some examples I just stole from flickr [t]https://i.imgur.com/9FLyuxV.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/pe9b29n.jpg[/t] according to flickr both were shot on 35mm film cameras The advantage of film is the unique and subtle qualities of color and space that digital cameras can't capture. Scanning and color correcting your film is one thing, but if you're gonna add ~aesthetic~ filters and crank the saturation/exposure/sharpening to 100, why bother
Because it slows you down and makes you think more about the shot you're about to take? I don't mean "editing is all bad" because that's 50% of the work of photography. What I mean is that film has a certain quality to it and people often try to make them look more like digital photographs, and then what's the point And also, I'm pretty much exclusively referring to 35mm, because people who invest the time/money into medium and large format know better
