Finally switched out my canon EOS 40D for a 70D. really needed to since my 40D was nearly dead thanks to the crazy humidity of Vietnam lol. It's pretty fukin neat having the ability to record videos on the camera, as well as the literally doubled megapixels. Haven't actually done any videos yet, but I did photograph a rare baby green salamander, which is always fun so TINY. mostly happy with how that shot came out, but I wish I didn't have an impatient group of hikers hounding me to hurry up so I could've taken waaay more shots. still tho, i am at least content in my belief I've 1-up'd that other guy on google image results who also photographed a baby green salamander on a coin

That guy has it going on [editline]23rd February 2016[/editline]
Hey guys, after dicking around with point and shoots for far too long, I'm looking to buy an SLR. I don't want to spend an excessive amount for my first time, but I want something half decent. I was initially looking at the D3300. I could stretch to the D5500 if I needed to, or I could push it to the 70D. I'm having trouble making a choice though. Any thoughts?
The 3300 takes great photos, but consider the 5500 has a touch screen, articulating screen, and better AF. Handy features, but none of them will really make better photos. That being said, I would save the money from the 5500 and buy a 50 1.8G or 35 1.8G. They're both great lenses. Of course, I would actually get neither of them and shoot for a sony a6000 which is pretty competitively priced these days.

Not quite where I want to be on certain aspects, but I can work the pollution out of the sky, so I'm happy. Also, First photo here of me. Probably the last for a while, unless I can think of a good reason to do self portraits. I though of this on the spot, if I planned it I would have worn a brighter jacket so there was a little more contrast between me and the trees.
anyone remember Eastbourne Pier? The pier that burnt down in 2014? Well a local infamous hotelier bought it out earlier this year for a disclosed amount and is planning to charge people £3 to enter during the summer, pretty much the whole of my town has had a backlash, even going as far as posting his famous gold bently on "parking like wankers: Eastbourne" facebook pages many are also upset at the fact that he has put these little gold lions (a signature of his) on the piers lamposts. anyone I was up there earlier tuesday during a sunset, dont like shooting around there too much as its something hard to try anything new on but couldnt miss the weather. Is a D610 a good buy for like $1000ish or would it be worth it to get the D750 for $1300? I'm contemplating making the move to full frame since I shoot a lot of indoor sports and I want the cleaner high ISOs since I'm routinely forced to be at 3200+
Damn the sharpness of the Sigma DP2 Merrill is amazing
Would you say that it's worth purchasing for $470? If you wanted to say more what you like about it!
Would you say that it's worth purchasing for $470? If you wanted to say more what you like about it! You PM if you want. Looked at it more closely and I'm getting really interested. I don't own any compact run&shoot, only my 550D DSLR and would perhaps consider taking this Sigma when I'm out running especially
Well the Sigma DP compacts are a very specific type of camera's, and definitely not good all-rounders like say a Ricoh GR or a Fuji X100. Pros: - Best colour accuracy you'll ever see out of a digital camera yet to date - Pictures have a depth to them that I simply cannot describe with words, the pictures though speak for themselves. Depth compares to the so called Zeiss 3D pop some people sometimes talk about. All Sigma DP cameras have this, some more than others. - Lens/sensor combination is absolutely stunning. (although I think the 19mm and 30mm that exist for mirrorless cameras are almost exactly the lens off the DP1 and DP2 respectively) - Files are 14 megapixels in terms of pixel count but in fact you would be able to interpolate them 200 percent and still have a decent looking file. - handling of the menu's and buttons and dials is pretty straightforward and easy to understand (the QS menu is a very nice feature) Cons: - HORRIBLE battery life, 50 shots max is normal, especially with cold-ish weather - ISO 100 and 200 are best with 400 as an absolute maximum. Basically what I'm saying, if you want to shoot this camera at night, better bring a tripod with you. - The camera takes like 10 seconds saving a raw file, the original DP2 I had was faster than this but that was just 5 megapixels. - The whole camera is not meant for fast paced street photography, but it's not totally useless either. It's just not a fast camera at all. Compare it to shooting film. For 470 USD you need to really know you want a camera like this which is very limited in its uses. I was looking at the Ricoh GR digital for a long time before I splurged on a cheap (sub 100 euro) Sigma DP2, and the DP2 Merrill is my third DP camera, and I also still own a Sigma DP1s (28mm FOV) that I bought off eBay later for cheap as well. What I would advice if you really want to try these Sigma camera's is to get a original Sigma DP2 for cheap and look if you can get along with it and then look from there, or maybe rent a new one for a few days. I personally wouldn't advice spending 470 bucks on something you might end up hating. They're great camera's if you can get along with their restraints, otherwise, not so.
