tbh film presets are boring and based om the interpertation of another person/company.
go shoot film yourself, get prints and scans and EXPERIENCE YOURSELF

But that requires equipment, which costs money, and film, which costs money, and money, which costs money, and I don't have any of that.

This hurts me. A lot. Who throws away perfectly good Marcel Breuer Cesca chairs? Those things are worth $300 each, easy. (They're the caned ones, second from the left. New, from Knoll, they're $1365. Each.)
I've never seen those other chairs, but they're pretty swish too. People just never know what they have.
Great photos, though. I love what you're doing with the colors.
Yeahaha, I know...
I would've saved them, but we were going to a friend's house at the time of that photo... :/

Anyone got some critique?

trogdon if you ever want to actually contribute something to the convo instead of just rating dumb feel free. if i'm being stupid you're certainly welcome to elaborate instead of just making me feel like shit for trying to be helpful in my own spergy way thanks

Ratings are stupid and you shouldn't pay attention to them. If people can't be bothered to present arguments in text, it's clearly not an important argument for them to make.
And that's why I use my cardboard boxes to build an imaginary box fort.

This is dumb. If you want to help people, do so in a constructive way. I don't make replies because I'm not trying to derail the thread, which is about posting images. We have a separate thread for discussion. This is a friendly place and has managed to keep positive vibes for the 5+ years I've been posting in it, and I would like to keep it this way. That's all I have to say
Sure. I was joking and obviously should know better than to think everyone would read it that way. My beef is because you've been rating me dumb repeatedly, like the last time I tried to give someone feedback on something where they specifically asked for feedback. Just know that I look up to you as an inspiration but I definitely feel like you and everyone else hates me and wants me to fuck off on the regular, so I'd rather be told when I'm doing something stupid/annoying than be driven to the point of freaking out and making one of these awful posts, because you or anyone else is trying to spare the thread a few extra posts.
ugh fuck my life

Generally, when you think things like that, nobody else actually thinks that. I don't mind you here, I'm sure most don't. We just have to remember not to be assholes, and everything should go pretty smoothly.
Dumb's are an odd rating to give in this thread, unless its to an opinion someone posted.
Say if you don't really like someones photo you'd rate disagree right? Agree, Artistic, Winner and Friendly each also have their fairly obvious connotations that everyone uses.
But giving someones photo a dumb rating doesn't really have as clear of a connotation as the above. You think it's such a bad shot that you think its literally dumb? Idk
Cactus rating soon

Nobody is rating photo's with "dumb".
Also - yelling loudly at animals that are in a perfect pose is key to taking a perfect photo.

I'm a beginner photographer with absolutely no reference with tutorials or how I'm supposed to do things outside of basic graphic design and what not. I've taken photos for years but it's never been serious, but I think it's time to start consulting stuff and becoming more dedicated.
What I'm interested is understanding composition. I know basic stuff like using the rule of thirds and golden ratios and stuff like that, but I've always had criticism about stuff like that. I don't know what makes "good" composition, although I've heard of people talking about how good composition creates a flow of the image and can give a sense of proper movement.
Here's three shots I did today:

What C&C would you guys have for this? What should I learn in terms of framing subjects?

The colours and values here are amazing. It looks straight out of a pixar film
Main crit for the house is that you generally want your subjects to have some breathing room on the top edge of the frame, so the roof doesn't sit so close to the edge of the image. I'd say zooming out or backing up a little could make for a more relaxed comp.
Going through a lot of my older shots
