[sp]Critique/tips very very welcome, or should I pick the other thread for that?[/sp][/QUOTE]
it's a beautifully angled shot with a lot of charm;
the sepia tone is a nice artistic choice, I can't help but want to see it with more editing to give it an aged scan look though (dust/scratches, tears, etc) but at the same time, the clear tone sepia has it's own charm that works quite well for it.
if i'm being pedantic and obsessive about it, the only thing I have critique about is that with the framing there's ever so slightly more space on the left side of the tractor than the right side of the tractor, the reason I find that a little /off/ is simply the amount, it almost feels like too little space for that offset to feel comfortable, i'd personally crop it a little bit on either side so it's either smack bang in the middle or so that space on the left has a little more breathing room, but that's not really a big deal at all, it doesn't detract from the photo it self in any way
otherwise I love it

Totally agree with the composition.
The thing I have trouble with is finding good ratio's for pictures, so I just keep most of mine at 16:9 but I guess I could experiment with that!
Many thanks for the input.

you can keep the ratio, just crop it inwards a bit and achieve the same result ;)
don't be afraid to experiment with different ratios though

Would anyone kindly lend me some criticism on what I've posted so far? I've actually only shown a few people my photos since starting out
You requested some CC in the discussion thread so I'll have a go.

This photo is really cool but it would be great if it had a subject. My eye is drawn to the corner joint between the two walls, I'm sure a person would fit nicely in that vertical line space in the frame.

Cool photo but done before as with the first photo. The lighting on the subject is surprisingly good given he is in the shade. If the patch of sunlight wasn't there it would be better as I find it quite distracting and eye catching (in the negative sense).

This shot is really cool to me, a very interesting photo that has a perspective I find unique to you. The only thing I would change is reduce the brightness of the light side of the frame (i.e. less contrast) but that's just personal taste.
I think what you've posted so far is good RobL, definitely on a good track. Just keep taking photos that motivate you to take photos, the only thing I'd say is to focus on subjects. Not that your photos lack them, but rather a "what's the best way to translate this thing that I see that looks interesting", be it a combo of focal length / aperture / angle. It's a good initial way to drive some progress, trying to accurately formulate a vision in your head.
Overall I would say this as a general theme to others in this thread seeking crit. Crit isn't going to make or break you as a photographer, and it's not necessary to get it to grow. I have been posting in this thread for 5 years and haven't gotten anything more than a "this is good", or the occasional "this isn't on the mark". I took photo classes in college too, and again the biggest feedback I got were just grades. I've still evolved as a shooter because I've learned what I like to shoot, what other media inspires me to shoot, and how to have fun doing what I like. That plus some general ratings have gotten me here today.
I'm not saying that seeking feedback is bad, but that you can still do good work and grow without it, and just because you might not be receiving it doesn't mean you are in a bad direction. I think self motivation works better for this than peer approval.
Also I edit this because The Salmon is super smart and photo educated and way better at crit than me listen to him more than me I apologize for my poorly timed soap box phone post
This has become the thread I visited the most on FP. I feel like such an amateur looking at you guy's pictures. They're very motivational though!

My opinion on this set, since you asked for some critique.
Out of the three, this was initially my least favorite. The other two in this set can sort of stand alone - while they don't have discrete subjects, I feel visually drawn from the alley to the tall background building in the first photo (although it isn't very interesting), and the central building and storefronts in the third photo (which is warm and pretty but feels a bit distant), and overall that satisfies me. I don't really feel that at all about this one, so at first glance it has an apparent snapshot feel. The would-be subjects are sort of just floating around the frame, which is a difficult thing to pull off. I do enjoy the hierarchy of the weight of the subjects, flowing from the tracksuit to the pair of women and finally to the delivery person. Although it's grown on me since I started writing this, it still feels a bit lost. I wonder how this scene would have looked with a more dramatic perspective. Perhaps by virtue of all of this potentially interesting analysis it's the best. :v:
Again, that's just my opinion. I have no photography education and I've never even shot street or city life so I don't know what it's worth, but overall I really enjoyed the sets you've posted lately.

I feel ya. I thinks it's a matter of me getting more confident about shooting people through the viewfinder, rather than just guessing composition and quickly shooting from the hip like I'm playing CoD.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time out to write that!

Thanks a bunch!! Really appreciate it!
Yeah I agree with the staircase photo, not harsh at all, it's been done many times! What I personally liked with it was mainly the colors in it and the subject, but it's really just way too small/obscured to really notice, it's a man holding a miniature house on a platter of some sort. I should've taken the chance and walked down a row and shoot the dude again from a closer position!
The second I have an alternate shot of, still no no subject but a different framing, which maybe adds more to it?
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ruXwop3.jpg[/img_thumb]
but either way I agree too, I aim was the reflection on the light, but definitely could've used a subject.
Also perhaps I should try placing stuff around if I have any props with me, maybe
The third I can understand but I would like to know more what precisely has been done before if you have the energy. I mean it's not a unique one by any measure but I'm curious, cause I'm not certain myself, I suspect the framing?
I liked the lighting myself a lot on that one but yea that patch of light really strikes out a bit too much! :)
For the fourth, very cool thanks! Maybe less like this?
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/elnKKxP.jpg[/img_thumb]
But like you said, personal taste, I think I might like it more "crispy" white!

The colors on this are a lot warmer than on the thing it's based on, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The only thing that really bothers me (without getting nitpicky) is how the background is wrinkled and not seamless
