why do you have a random stool?

It's a long story :/
I think it works.
You've actually given me an idea for street photography. Time to find a stool.
Did you happen to take one of that same shot without the figure? IMO it might be stronger without them in.

Tried out manual for the first time. It'll definitely take a little getting used to, since I prefer to use the viewfinder when shooting; unfortunately, it doesn't accurately display the exposure conditions. It's hard to use the LCD when it's bright and sunny out.

Indeed, that helps a lot! However, the discrepancy between the viewfinder and even a properly exposed pic on the LCD still bothers me.

check to see if your camera has a 'depth of field preview' button

that can help at least for the aperture

Yea! (if you meant mine? ...) Although my idea was using the resemblance (hopefully) of the person's pose with the baby stroller and the worker figure in the background!

I personally liked the one with the lady with the stroller better, though they're both great.
Ah, I didn't pick up on that. I definitely see what you were going for now that you've said it. I just didn't care for the motion blur on the woman when everything else was so sharp. I think pretty much every version of it is awesome though, such good colors and composition across the board.

these are all incredibly pleasant to look at
So I bought my first ever DSLR! You guessed it, it's the [sp]D3300.[/sp] While my 300mm lenses are on the way, I spent the day studying and confirming/denying my guesses about all the fancy manual settings, then went on a bit of night shooting. VR proved to be an amazing help, taking 1/20sec pictures @55mm without a single blur. Yeah, high ISO looks like crap compared to more advanced models, but it's miles above anything I owned previously.

I told them to act natural, but the girl just froze in this pose for the whole duration of the shooting :v:

I have some questions, too:
-Is it OK to sometimes turn photos B&W or toy with the clarity slider? I feel like in some photos color takes away from the picture, but at the same time like I'm that guy who uses default Photoshop filters and thinks that it's pretty.
-What is the "normal" percentage of people on the street agreeing to have their picture taken? 3 out of 5 persons I asked today with a friendly "Hi, can I take your photo for my portfolio?" politely declined. Probably heavily depends on the country/city, but still I'm curious.
P.S. Does anyone else use their bike heavily when going on photo trips around town? I had an amazing time. Same access as on foot, fast travel so you're not stuck in one part of the city and not as scary as walking by yourself deep in the night.
You can definitely mess around with the colors. I shoot entirely in black and white on my X100T, because I'm just not a fan of color in general, but there's no rule saying you can't do it in post. Make your pictures the way you want them.
I don't really do pictures of people, so I can't answer your second question. A bicycle is a great idea, though.

Photo processing is necessary sometimes and adds to the liveliness of the pic.

I dont know what the law is in Spain but don't ask people if you can take their picture. If I did that with the pictures I took my project probably wouldn't happen. Its better to get a stink eye and they forget about you in two seconds to not getting a good photograph at all. That being said you should pick your battles too. In some cases asking is a good thing but for the most part it just keeps you from getting good photographs. You also get a more genuine picture that way. It is up to you though.

I will probably try it after I get the 300mm lens. I understand that the worst thing that can happen is that they'll shout at me to not take pictures, but still it's kinda scary if you haven't done it before. Even more so if the first time you even thought about photographing people was less than 24 hours ago.
Spanish law is that every person holds the full rights to their own image, which means you can neither take nor publish a picture of any person anywhere, even at public places, unless (a) they give you explicit permission to take their image, or (b) they are celebrities or public persons, or (c) they happen to be at some public event and their images aren't the main subject of the picture but the event proper.
In practice this goes all the range from you taking pics of someone on the street and the person don't minding at all, to said person denouncing you either on the spot or at a police station and you then facing charges for your illegal action, usually resulting in your camera being retained as evidence and you being fined, at the very least.
And this only if your pictures do not involve minors. Taking and/or publishing images of minors is utterly forbidden unless you've previously got written permission from their parents or legal tutors.
don't shoot photos of people on the street w/ a 300mm lens
