Even coming from a solidoodle fanboy's perspective, that website is ugly as shit.
IK I think it's just awesome that they used a 12pt bright yellow font on a white background. I uploaded a thing lol
I got a new roll of filament today. I ordered from BotFeeder and I got a roll of their blue 1.75mm ABS. They have a 'Try-Me' program that will allow new users to get a filament for $20(50%) off, with free shipping. $20 delivered ain't bad, plus they are a Canadian manufacturer. This is how it came out of the box: [t]http://i.imgur.com/GihBMJ6.jpg[/t] I was really happy to see that it was vacuum sealed. Humidity levels can be highly variable during delivery, and they seem to have taken that into consideration. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Ftb5Eil.jpg[/t] It also came with a very large package of silica gel, much larger than previous filament manufacturers have included [t]http://i.imgur.com/SyU1ICi.jpg[/t] They have their logo on the spool, which is sturdy and compact compared to some of the larger rolls I have gotten [t]http://i.imgur.com/X4anOPT.jpg[/t] and finally I inspected the filament and found no bulges/contaminants visually. The color is uniform and bold and I think I really like this manufacturer. I will post some prints when I get some done.
We are printing parts for a wearable Riot gear helmet from FO:NV. I printed a weeping angel with the new blue filament.. [t]http://i.imgur.com/kkYDMaZ.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/LcFFUbZ.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/DP3p6gw.jpg[/t] I am satisfied with how it performs and looks, although there are a few spots where the layers seperated, I think that's about calibration and not the quality of the filament. The creator of this model is my favorite designer for 3D printing because everything he makes prints the first time with 0 supports and he just is really good at modeling for 3d printers. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:188841 In the end I'd say it came out pretty damn well. There's a few spots where I need to clean it up with some high grit sandpaper like under the chin, there was a built in support that I broke off there, and there was a droop on her upper lip.

I've been trying to put one together for forever, but I was never able to get a good mesh.
You mind sharing the files? I've been trying to put one together for forever, but I was never able to get a good mesh.
File contains 2 blend files with the advanced riot gear (unedited) and the normal riot gear (edited). Also it contains the STL files for the riot gear helmet in printable pieces. Its a bit messy with all the files but if we finished the helmet i will sort the files and upload a better version on thingiverse. Riotgear I have just ported the mesh from the original game and modified it for printing. You will be kind of "surprised" because its a lot of things to print. There are only those parts included that we allready printed but there are also the blend files with the whole helmet. To attach the parts together we simply used a soldering iron and melted the edges. So far we printed today the front parts of the upper helmet part. Took me all in all 6 hours only for these 4 pieces. [t]http://abload.de/img/img_106690isp.jpg[/t]

I tried doing the same thing as you, but it was just a massive pain in the ass, and never worked. It might just be inventor though, that's what I was using.
Well either dissolve ABS in aceton or PLA in tetrahydrofurane and grease it then over the parts. Both solvents will evaporate after some time and the left back ABS/PLA will fill the gaps. ABS dissolves in Aceton (Aceton has no reaction with PLA) PLA dissolves in Tetrahydrofurane (THF has no reaction with ABS) You should avoid to use for example dissolved PLA on your printed PLA parts to make them watertight. Otherwise it could deform it aswell. Same with the dissolved ABS on ABS parts. Just use PLA dissolved on ABS parts or ABS dissolved on PLA parts.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/PNFBLVy.jpg[/t] 11th doctors screwdriver! prints in 3 pieces, assemble with acetone. Came off beautiful! Almost 10 inches long. I printed this on 0.1mm layers with 25% infill(so it had a little weight) infill every 3 layers with no supports. No raft just a brim and I had no lifting issues. 7 hrs 59 minutes www.thingiverse.com/thing:32065

I couldn't get autodesk inventor to put out a valid model, I tried everything. I ran it through netfab, then imported it, but autodesk refused to stitch it into an object as opposed to just a shit ton of faces
There is a repair function in netfab. Did you repaired your model first? [t]http://3daddfab.com/blog/uploads/netfabb-repair-stl.png[/t] Progress on the helmet. [t]http://abload.de/img/img_1067xkxr7.jpg[/t]

My printer has been running for 32 hours non-stop, 3 more hours and the last piece of my awesome new thing will be printed! pics coming soon, I think this is totally awesome!!!!!

It is quite large and quite heavy and I am just giddy with excitement. I am gonna be painting this model at some point in the future when I have a proper setup to sand it without making it look like crap. I think it came out really really well and all tolled it took about 36 hours to print all of the pieces. It could have been a lot quicker but I wanted everything to be as good as possible for this print. It's about 8 inches tall from the bottom of the foot to the top of the guns on the back. It's just so super freaking awesome lol I'll keep posting updates as I work on this. www.thingiverse.com/thing:19881
ABS
Well for the smoothing part you could simply use a bit acetone. Works really good.
Well for the smoothing part you could simply use a bit acetone. Works really good.
yeah but I've always found that no matter how lightly I do it it always comes out looking a bit... melted, plus paint doesn't adhere to it as well.
Use an old crock pot and use the vapors. Much easier to get a good finish.

Just printed a micro quadcopter from thingiverse. Printed in 3mm PLA at 0.3mm layer height and 40% infill. Dang, this thread is getting good. From the outside looking in it seems like the print technology and quality available to hobbyists is really quite astounding these days compared to even a year ago. Is that true?
I printed the Diablo... [t]http://i.imgur.com/rh8wxKt.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/85WTTqv.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/setIrZW.jpg[/t] With the exception of the area under his horns, he printed well. I have a technique to fix that but I'm too lazy to do it right now. I will basically sand it and fill in the holes with this slurry I make from 75% abs scraps and 25% acetone. I was disappointed to see the horns when I woke up, but the rest of the print is pretty gnarly and I like it. Overall: pretty satisfied since I can fix it. I should note that I used every plastic saving trick in my book to print this. I printed it on 10% infill with 2 shells, but infill only where it was needed to support the ceilings. It used very little plastic and only weighs 1 ounce. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:224878
[t]http://i.imgur.com/KqFgd4W.jpg[/t] The zombie hunter! Printed with the same settings as my above post. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:69709
Your mass production started huh? :p
Your mass production started huh? :p
I guess I have been printing a lot lol. I was out of filament for a while so I collected a bunch of models I wanted to print in the downtime. I'm giving her a well deserved rest now.
