Titanium printers already exists by the way. Also the replacement for my broken part arrived. Can't wait to get printing again.
I know I've seen universitys on TV working on them, I didn't think they started selling them to the public.
Yeah so far its only used for manufacturing bicycle parts.

Has anyone tried printing with food? I've heard repraps have been modified to use chocolate. :v:
From what I'm told plane engineers want to get there hands on them.
It has a big future in the industry. I'm not surprised if even phone parts are printed by then.
Has anyone tried printing with food? But I think if you can get the printer to work at a right temperature chocolate printing might be possible.
Is anyone building their own printers? or is everyone rich enough to buy one.
I am. Keep having issues with it for some reason. Doesn't help that reprap.org has been down every time I go to work on it.

Hello, I should have my printer in just a week or so now. In the meantime I have been playing with google sketchup. I have no schooling beyond 10th grade so please don't be too harsh. I have been trying to make some kind of a tank/train mashup and I have been working on the tread. This is what I have come up with so far. I also thought it woul dbe pretty cool to print some new pedals for my bicycle, and seeing that I might be the worlds largest Zelda fan I went with a triforce design. Again I am a retard and none of this stuff is done yet. I plan on making an 8 sided gear to drive the tracked vehicle, but its all just experimentation as I don't know any of the math involved. I am learning that as I need it. edit: I didn't really make it clear what the tred is for I have also designed a set of track that is geared like the teeth on the track, the idea is that it can go up very steep inclines while still being able to lift it straight off the track. I hope it works lol.

I don't know if anybody else has found this but generally I find the biggest headache when designing things to print is constructing things I know the printer can print nicely. Mine will do scaffold, but it can be incredibly difficult to get off (I'd love one that uses a separate scaffold material, bust considering how much of a pain it is for me to change the fillament manually I doubt the current printer could do it with out a total redesign of the print head) Basically what I'm saying is trying to print overhanging things doesnt always work out nicely, especially if it's a large overhang and I cant think of a way to print your links without an overhang. A final point, I don't know what material you plan to print with, but a lot of the plastics are pretty rigid and whilst the snap together idea is neat, you may find you stress the material too much trying to connect it up (it's the kind of thing before I printed the whole thing I'd print a test piece, i.e. one link and the connector off the side of a tooth and just played with fitting them together. I'll be interested to see what comes of your ideas though!
I'd love one that uses a separate scaffold material
The solidoodle gods over at soliforum are working on adding a second extruder that prints in a dis-solvable support material. They haven't made much headway but are trying nonetheless.
I have been designing some small mounting plates for my university group project this morning: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3798635/sketchup1.png[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3798635/sketchup2.png[/t] The idea is these will mount an existing rc helicopter body onto a flat metal plate. I'll post pictures once it is done, but these were a royal pain to design since I tried to stick to the following constraints a) Using existing mounting holes on the plate and heli chasis only b) minimal size/volume/weight c) not alter the downward airflow from the rotors above and the most difficult d) design it in such a way you can actually bolt the damn things together in such an order that it is actually assemblable. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Just printed in PLA and remembered this:
So I hear PLA smells quite pleasant while printing. Is this true?
Got as close up to the thing while it was printing as I dared and I can confirm it does smell pleasant. Over the standard garage oil and timber stench its hide to make out exactly what it smells of bu t I'd liken it to freshly cut celery.

UPDATE: My printer just shipped it will arrive on monday. -excited-
I'm looking for a printing shop in Melbourne to print theses,
I would be happy to work something out via paypal and the mail. I understand if you aren't comfortable with this. Email me @ frozensoda@gmail.com
No, I'm sorry to say but i would rather deal with this in person than over mail. Because it maybe a fairly large order and because there are a few other objects that fit into them.
Of course, from the sound of it my machine isn't what you need anyway. It's gonna be pricey when you do find it tho!
Just printed a small mascot for a friends go kart project as well as doubling up as a test piece for ensuring the printer was printing arcs and very sharp angles nicely for something I need to print later this week (I'll probably drop in a few photos of that too when I get around to printing it) [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3798635/duck1.jpg[/t] He wants to cable tie it to the roll cage

I may or may not be selling these at the flea market this summer, I have ordered 100 pairs of silicon rings to slip them into to avoid irritation.
Well I got in trouble at school so I'm not going to be doing any printing on my MendelMax for like 8 weeks. At least. Right as we got a facepunch thread going, goddamnit
I'm going to be making myself a Prusa V2 with linear bearings. My school has the same model, and I can print pretty much whatever the hell I want, so I figure I'll print the parts off myself and buy the rest of the parts either individually or in a kit. What do you guys suggest?
I have taken a week in hiding with my printer and I am now getting amazing quality out of it. I have 3 large models printed at 0.1mm layer height that took a total of 40 hours to print. They were back to back so my printer ran for almost 2 days straight with no problems. Pictures coming soon but you can find the models here: http://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=ysb&sa=
That's some impressive modelling/printing!
All props for modeling go to YSB on soliforum or thingiverse. I would love to take credit for his work but that just wouldn't be right!

The coolest thing I've ever printed was a scaled down custom header I designed to go on my truck back when I was in High School. I'll find it and post a picture. Edit* Also, frozensoda, I'm going to need a 1:1 version of the third picture with useable orifices, k thanks
i'm in a club with a bunch of engineering students and we are building a mendel90, right now we're just getting funding to purchase the crap, hopefully we will be up and runing by mid next semester
