I'm looking to purchase my first printer.
Right now I'm looking at spending about 900 smackers on a printer. I was looking at the Flashforge Pro But I'm not sure if going that expensive is going to be smart for a beginner printer. I'd rather purchase on where I can learn with it and have good print quality rather than buying a shitty one, fussing it for several months and then purchasing a new one and end up spending 900 anyways.
But looking through the thread I saw people using the Flashforge Finder. So I'm also curious about that one, as its about half of the price.
The FlashForge Finder has rock solid quality and reliability.
If 140mm^3 is enough build space for you, you really can't go wrong with that printer.
While it's not a heated bed (so no ABS), it'll print stuff like flexible filaments just fine.
I recommend it a whole lot.
Yeah, I'm really thinking about the Flashforge Finder. It seems solid and I saw someone here in the thread made a Bolt Pistol out of it, so that seems pretty good imo. It'll save me about 500 bucks.
I don't really plan on making anything big. I was mostly getting it to save myself money in the long run on wargaming pieces.
Hi, i've been thinking about building a 3D printer but I don't know which one to build. I saw a couple of DIY 3D-printers online, but I thought that since many of you have experience with 3D-printers you might be able to give me some tips. Like do you guys think it's worth it, if you have any recommendations and like what the cost of building one is in USD.. If you have any guides and like a favorite website you always order 3D-printer build-parts... (Sorry for my bad spelling and probably grammar, I don't write that much).
Thanks in advance for answers
Is 3d printing any good for building something like a fan that will spin at 3000 rpm?

If you design it right and print it right, it should work just fine.
I'm almost finished printing this big beast

Guts' Dragonslayer
It will be 6'1 and weigh about 8lbs (I used 3.5 rolls of filament)

Looking around, for a fan the size i need (8-10 inch) it's way crazy. 340$ at the minimum. (i don't have a 3d printer, but this makes me want to get one).
Anyone have any recommendations for extruders?
I've been rocking the MK8, but I feel it just clogs too much.
I ordered a chinese clone of the e3d titan, but have been eyeballing the bondtech dual geared extruder.
Oh, I'm a delta slave btw :v:
(Left, When I started. Right $800 later lol)

I'm very impressed with the bottle. Settings?
does anyone want a 200x200 prusa i3 clone? itd need some work especially after being moved but otherwise its a pretty good printer and i have the super basic autolevel sensor

It's a super special water extruding hotend, PETG and kitten tears. Settings are Slic3r, but are actually Russian launch codes, so I'd rather not share :v:
Alright I finished printing the Dragonslayer
Comes out 75 inches from tip to bottom
Handle is 14' PVC pipe
oooooh boy. weighs about 10.5lbs

Here is some better pics of the finished Dragonslayer and the link

I can't really fathom how much filament you must've used

[sp]pls excuse the aesthetics this is a prototype I'll make a prettier one next time[/sp]
If anyone happens to remember Pirates of the Spanish Main, my most recent project has been an attempt at reviving it with printed models (or failing that, provide models for a somewhat similar but legally distinct wargame of my own making). No pics of the prints yet, but I've refined my designs into something that should be sturdy enough to be used in play.

This version was way too heavy and didn't fly at all.
Version twooooooo

It has a roughly 1:1 thrust to weight ratio and it balances, so in theory it should fly. I'll find out once I get a chance to go out somewhere super remote and maiden it :v:
Decided to learn Fusion 360 seen as I got myself a Prusa i3 clone... So I measured and modelled myself a cool phone case for my G7.

So the printer I have access to right now is this Afinia H800+ 3D Printer which apparently has a 10 x 8 x 8 inch print bay and "0.1(100 micron)/0.15/0.20/0.25/0.30/0.35mm" layer thickness (I have no idea why the hell there are so many and which ones it normally uses) but I find it a bit lacking when it comes to detail/resolution.
I'm having problems with my Flashforge Finder.
I can't seem to figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong. My nozzle is catching my prints perhaps 1 minute or less into the build time, the first few lines of the print are okay. But then the nozzle will suddenly catch it and begin to gather it up and form a huge bulb on the end of the nozzle.
I've cleaned it out several times. I've reveled it. No matter the print, I can't seem to figure it out.
I've heard setting your layer heights too small can cause that.
In other news, I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not I may have caved and bought a Tevo Tarantula...
Also, does anyone have any advice for handling tight physical tolerances? I keep swinging between "this is impossibly tight" and "this is uselessly loose" with this stuff I'm trying to print.
Tolerances for what, exactly? If it's for rods, you may be better off just making them a little smaller ID in printing, but with thick walls so you can safely drill to size. For other shapes, that depends I guess?
So it's not sticking to the build plate?
Have you applied glue to the build area? Feel free to add me on Steam if you need help, I have over 1800 hours of print time with that printer

Working on a way to transport my desktop computer for some upcoming travel with boat / train.
I figured that the best way of doing this is to strengthen the cardboard box (with styrofoam inserts) that came with the PC case, so that's what I'm doing - Essentually I'll be making a travel bag out of it, complete with handles and wheels:

Alright so regarding the tolerance thing, I've been making a fleet of pirate ship miniatures with removable masts. I've had to go through multiple iterations, getting the thickness of the masts, depth of slot, etc. right, and it's mostly been frustrating (and costly) trial and error. I also tried changing print orientations - I was originally printing masts vertically but these not only tended to break due to low shear strength between layers, but they were also harder to insert into their slots; I oriented them horizontally and they fit into the original slots well but I think I went and enlarged some of the slots anyway and they're far too loose now.
The best thing I can do right now it to copy one hole + mast that worked and paste it into *all* the other ships, but that would be incredibly time consuming. If I could just measure them and just know or have some program tell me whether or not they're good, that would be better.
The pic shows some of the ships I'm working on but I don't have one of the masts + slots right now

3D printer came today. I was at work.
I have to go to the sorting office tomorrow to get it.
I've spent a solid 5 hours now sulking like a 10 year old.
