Since I'm going to Sakura Con next weekend as Guts and Sunday April 1st is Also Easter, I'm printing out a bunch of "Eggs" to give out. https://feen.us/takrf0.jpg
If i'm not wrong, that looks large enough to accept a couple of tiny cylindrical neodymium magnets. Worked a treat for my Warhammer/Warmachine figs, anyway. K&J Magnetics has a good choice of sizes and shapes, if that;s a solution you're wiling to consider.
http://puu.sh/zN304.png Almost done printing this beast. The wheels are something I bought for really cheap (this is just a size approximation of them, not how they literally look)
What's it going to carry?
Ny desktop computer in the cases' original padded cardboard box.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZMoQkSzHrQ X-Y stage with 5 micron repeatability? (Genuinely!) yes please! (10nm resolution with interpolaters) Time for a DIY 3d printer... Anyone know a thing or two about good heated beds?
I purchased my first 3D printer and, just my luck, the power goes out mid-print. I waited for the power to come back and heated up the nozzle so I could un-stick it from the print and https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237960/e894898c-51be-461f-8a6d-ef09f4c3879e/20180328_163359s.jpg Benchy's taken up fly fishing.

I didn't realise 3D printing was such a viable option for home use until I read this thread. I had no idea printers were affordable enough to just buy for personal use, how is this not more common knowledge. There's so many parts to cosplays I could have made with less aggro. I'm going to clear a space on my desk and start shopping
This thing has sure served it's duty, but I'll make various improvements for the future, cause I'll need it again. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/490/347b07c6-8cec-47ba-923d-0800c1988272/_20180401_220736.JPG It sure is nice for lugging around in the snow.
E-mail says it's shipped now.
Gotta go somewhere soon, but long story short, I finally got a Wanhao i3 Plus and I'm having way too much fun with the 3D printing community Took me just about all of this morning to design the "bad benchy" https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/619/2518db84-0590-43ce-a7a0-3d0b627a75e4/JrysRnO.png
"WTF I uploaded Benchy to the SD card and all it prints is dicks?!"
Man Tevo's take forever to ship but they're a great entry level printer. I bought mine with the auto leveler and the only complaint I had was that 5V wasn't enough to get the full distance resolution out of the auto level sensor, so I had to build an optocoupler + 12V splice to power the sensor on 12V. It turned out some pretty decent prints (ST Combadge & Phaser) for my first printer: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110848/8a57876c-d393-4c7e-8a8b-a6b43e58e4f3/20180402_210219.png
I'm mostly going to be using it to make robot parts, so detail shouldn't be a huge issue, but I'll keep that auto-leveler repair in mind.
https://puu.sh/zVolF.png Mass reduction for V2
http://puu.sh/zVx5M.png Red this time around, because why not. The mass / filament reduction is at about 50%, and it shouldn't affect strength too much. The design prints entirely without supports, and it'll also assemble / disassemble without tools.
What program are you modeling these in? I've been using FreeCAD off and on, but not so sure how well that will work with 3D printing given that it's still in its early stages.
I use Fusion 360, which is free for educational & non-commercial use, or if you run a small business making less than $100 000 a year. Activating Fusion 360 for non-commercial use It's probably the best CAD program for 3D printer use, as it's incredibly streamlined and easy to use, while still being very powerful. Also, any CAD program that can export to .stl / .obj will be usable with 3D printing.
Y'all over here using actual CAD software Meanwhile I'm still using 3DS Max for everything, including technical designs :v
I did that, but fucking hell just 1 day into using Fusion 360 and I was completely sold.
I think I poked around with Fusion but decided to try FreeCAD for some reason, will probably give Fusion a try again as FreeCAD can be somewhat frustrating to use. (the fuck you mean I can't just make one piece and stretch it along an axis to simulate a longer piece of steel tubing you shit?! ) That and I remember it took me over 4 hours on a sick-day to figure out how to draw a single chain-sprocket, despite searching for various tutorials, plug-ins (there weren't any), and formulas.
Who you are is exactly their business, they want to know who's using the software they made and are giving out free of charge for like 99% of its users
Autodesk wants your name because they need a way to know whether you are a legitimate user or not. You get free access to cloud storage and their render farms, so it's understandable. If this bothers you, you can just use the open source ones instead - but you lose out on the convenience that comes with the cloud features of Fusion.
just about finished painting this bad boy https://feen.us/kj7brj.jpg https://feen.us/m3m51e.jpg https://feen.us/v416ik.jpg

I'm sorry dude but you gotta thin your paints and maybe get a smaller brush or something, the paint job is a bit... lacking.
*Free of charge for one year, three years if you're a student.
You can renew it as many times as you want, not actually limited to one year.
