Either way, I have no idea what it is for this printer. I wish they offered greater customization options like specifying layer thickness but as it stands you can only tell them what type/density of fill you want.
What software does it use? Is it proprietary?
Yeah it's the printer's own software, freely available on their site. It's... kinda crap. Very much intended for people with little or no technical experience.
There SHOULD be an option to determine layer height, if it's not flat-out called "layer height" it might be called "resolution" or something similar.
Tried printing at 200mm/s

Damn near self destructed
Yeah, the real crappy part about FDM printers is that they're kind of limited in how fast they can reliably go. Even if the motors are strong and "accurate" enough to pull it off, there's always gonna be some print-killing wobble present.
Been printing a space marine helmet:

The diode is 10 watts, which is pretty strong for LED - especially when it's directional with the help of my amazing and crappy aluminium foil parabolic reflector.
(LED light bulbs for lighting up rooms are usually between 6-8 watts)

Wanted to try painting a print. Need to sand more but I I had fun.
I'm looking for a <$300 printer with a fairly large build area. Preferably something reliable. Can anyone give some suggestions?
If by fairly large you include 200*200*180mm, my Wanhao i3 Plus has been amazing in terms of reliability and quality. If you can catch it on sale, it's possible to get it for $300 or less. I got mine on Monoprice's eBay for $275 brand new.
What sort of paints are you using? I just used oil paints which I had laying around which are totally not working.
Acrylic paint. I use Apple Barrel and Liquitex. Liquitex really needs to be diluted but its a high quality paint.

The helmet it done.
now to try to clean up all the lines and sand it.
Some of you may remember my PC Carrier.
Well, I'm updating it currently, because I'll need it again soon.
Been thinking of ways to do a collapsible handle, this is the solution I've come up with:

So basically it hinges. It has a slot for a locking pin in the middle, so (hopefully) all the forces will still be going through the metal.
