Sorry guys!
Nice, makes a super cool atmosphere, I wonder what it would sound like with some more ambient sections [editline]12th February 2015[/editline] now it's got more electronic stuff to it. Anything else I should do? thoughts? ideas???
love the chord progression, but like whoever above said, it does get a bit repetitive. Try resolving to different chords. Improve solo to my friend's song. I haven't perfected the timing for this or added any complicated bends or hammerons, I just threw a bunch of ideas in. What should I change?
Just curious if you guys think doing a 365 project would be a good idea when it comes to music. They can be a lot of fun for photography, and you can learn a lot. I was thinking just making at least one 1-minute sketch or idea or experimentation per day.
I really like the chord progression. The drums are nice, the clicky kick is good and I love the direction of the drums but I think even more wet reverb would sound great. I got some new drum samples and holy fuck have they made a difference. Threw this together in like half an hour so the composition kinda sucks (also about half the synths are samples too, can't take credit for a couple because they're amazing. Definitely going to try and emulate them myself soon!)
Sounds nice, has potential. I think you should add a drum rise to your buildup, so the difference in the rythm isn't so abrupt. Also, try to make the drop snare a bit more snappier (like the snare before the drop!). Try increasing the high frequencies of the attack. If you're going to create the bass samples, take the opportunity to make them sound sound less... gurgly? They could be sharper than the samples you used. By sharp I mean sharp like a saw wave. The bass sounds kinda low passed.
Probably a shot in the dark, but does anybody know what this instrument is that's playing alongside the bass and drums right after 0:11 in this song?
Sounds like a violin to me.
Here's a track I made just a little bit ago. I got a hold of some new sounds and vinyls today and decided to do some experimenting. Short and sweet. Here's a song you might actually like:
They sound pretty repetitive to me. The first one is because of the vocal which gets annoying IMO. The second is because the drums have a strange pattern, I think. Nothing wrong with that, but you should add some breaks or fill ins, or add a new instrument with a longer melody. Other than that, I think the samples sound good. ------- end of feedback This is a 8 minute song I'm making. It spans three genres. I don't really know if I did it well. The structure is not really standard, is this a bad thing? I tried to make an orchestral composition for the intro, but in the end I composed an electronic part with orchestra instruments. But I think it isn't bad. Is it? Then it goes to an electronic part which is supposed to be happy and light. Then it transitions to dubstep, which may be nonsensical, but it's supposed to be dark. And finally goes trance, which is back to happy mood. Maybe the transitions could be better, or was the whole idea bad from the start?
And a short clip of something I started yesterday.
Nice, lovin the bass although it could maybe be a bit louder (personal preference) it's really nice and mellow.
Doesn't seem like a violin, it doesn't sound like it's sharp or string-y enough. Imo I think it's a piano, maybe with one of those practice pedals on upright pianos that puts a sheet of felt over them. If it isn't that, it could be filtered.
I don't think this might be the right thread, but I'm asking here since I can't really find the other one at the moment. What DAW's are good to use? I'm looking to get into music production, and was initially looking at Ableton, but I read it was suited mostly for live performances, so I wasn't so sure anymore. I bought Music Creator 6 from Cakewalk for a pittance some while ago, been experimenting a bit in it to see what it's like (that said I don't know how it compares to other (what I can only assume be) more professional DAWs). Do you have any opinions/tips?

But the bassline is pretty nice.
I don't think this might be the right thread, but I'm asking here since I can't really find the other one at the moment. If you're gonna mess with band recordings, Pro Tools is more suited for that. There's Bitwig too, which is pretty new. It's like a colorful Ableton. Keep in mind that FL gets bashed for being an "amateur" DAW (probably because it's used by a lot of new producers). It's not. You can make professional sounding music with any DAW. The only thing that changes between them is the workflow i.e. the ease of use. I started with FL and got used to it. Can't find a decent reason to change to another DAW, so I'm sticking with it. However, Ableton seems a bit better to work with samples than FL. FL, on the other hand, comes with some great synthesizers.
You can make professional sounding music with FL however you're going to be hindered with a terrible UI and confusing interface. I'd use Pro Tools or Cubase. Logic is not bad either

I envy all of you guys who can just sit down and pick four chords. All of my material is just me fucking around with various sound textures.

[editline]18th February 2015[/editline] Also, damn, I remember hearing those vocals at 0:56 in the background music of something, as a kid, and wondering what it was from. :v: Definitely not what I'm into though, but it just felt really weird hearing that.
I really wanna know how to make music like this http://lustmord.bandcamp.com/track/black-star
the way i do dark ambient and drone is i just fiddle around with various sounds and recordings until i get something that i like the sound of, then i start building on that by adding things and progression while trying to still carry the mood just record whatever: the humming of your computer, the ticking of your clock, the ambiance in your room, the sounds of outside or the creaking of your chair and start twisting and turning them: slow them down, reverse them, reverbarate them, stretch them, layer them, pitch-shift them the best dark ambient stuff can come from the most unexpected places
yeah... it's just making a song out of those sounds that I don't really know how to do
yeah... it's just making a song out of those sounds that I don't really know how to do
making ambient songs that aren't boring can be a bit hard since they don't really have a set structure, so honestly it's just down to feel, which can be really hard for some people just put some stuff on top of stuff or after stuff until you feel like some other stuff should be there instead it's hard to explain honestly, you'll get the hang of it if you listen to or make a lot of that kind of stuff

Hey guys, I will be posting pictures of it tomorrow, but is anyone really good at identifying/knowledge about really old accordions? My grandpal has one (He's passed on) it's still in a case that was made for that accordion, I have no idea what brand it is, it still works and everything, looks pretty good besides the keys being a tad tinted a yellow.
Learn to play it and become the master of sex [editline]19th February 2015[/editline] (lets be honest here accordions are sex)
I'm taking a shot at doing the music version of that 365 thing that a bunch of photographers do. Trying to do a little sketch of a tune every day for a year. Two down, 363 to go so far. I set up a secondary soundcloud account for it if anyone wants to follow along: http://soundcloud.com/sonis-365
I just started the same thing a few days ago kmartsqrl

Awww yiss, love how the whole flow changes once the beat comes in. Sounds so clean on my ATH M50s, mmm just hearing the second part now...lovin this melody. ohyesplease I love your style man, it's like a constant build, a tease. Especially like the part at 1:22

Embedded 3650003 here, I wish I had your drum creativity. I'm not familiar with the source material. Around 1:20 the vocals sound a little flat, like they briefly went out of key.
I tried my hand at reproducing Mr. Carmack's "intrep" Put a little spin on it.
I went and listened to the original first before listening to this one. It's a nice reproduction, my only gripe is the synth sound you chose that comes in at 0:25. It sounds like a synthesized horn noise, and sounds kinda silly. If you used a different synth, you could also experiment with playing chords instead of single notes for parts of it which might sound interesting. I also started a 365 project 4 days ago, and this is the latest: I probably put too much time into this one for a daily project. From the description I put on soundcloud:
For today's track, I wanted to expand on the previous day's melody. I got a bit of feedback saying that the track could have been better had it gone somewhere else, rather than just fading out at the end. Since these are just daily sketches, I didn't want to just edit the track before, so I played in the same key and brought back the melody a little later on in this track.
The previous track is on my soundcloud if you want to listen to it for reference to this track.
I just started the same thing a few days ago kmartsqrl
Hah awesome! We started one day apart so I'm totally going to make this a competition to see who can go the longest before missing a day whether you like it or not! :P [editline]21st February 2015[/editline]
Embedded 3650003 here, I wish I had your drum creativity. I do all my own sound design most of the time (all the sounds on the 365 sc are done from scratch other than the rhodes in the first tune). For the drum stuff, listen to some footwork and/or slowfast dnb for ideas. There's tons of really creative drum programming going on in those areas right now and it's majorly inspiring :) Getting a step sequencer or something to play around with helps too for me since it lets you try weird stuff a bit more quickly. Intrepid sounds pretty good. I like synth brass but I wish it was a little bit more full. Some light distortion and/or chorus or something might help that a bit. MY ears are wanting the snare to have a bit more bite to it too.

Any idea? I know the brand, but I have no idea if it's a 1 row 2 row...etc I am clueless about accordions.
