Alright, thank you! That sounds WAYYY better.
I invented an 8-bar repeat.

Also I'm using ties to notate parameter automation.
This seems to me a lot like death grips made a song with a strong poppy melody, it's pretty cool man. The sudden switch made me laugh a little at the unexpectedness.
Although I'm not a huge fan of any music that reminds me of pink floyd or 70's prog, this is well done production wise and instrument wise. The bass and organs are nice as well as the solo at the end which could be a guitar or a synthesizer.

I made this track in order to get more comfortable with production techniques I've never used before. Like using a limiter on a kick and snare, or messing with the highs and lows on drums. This was written in B minor using a descending progression. The last quarter might be a little too loud.
For some reason this track keeps telling my brain it's going to be disco house or something but it's completely different.
Atleast out of my speakers the epiano you've got going from the intro seems to need a little more EQing, I could be wrong but I think it might need some low taken off. The lead at the end is great but I think maybe some variation on the second play of it at 3:13 wouldn't do any harm.
Overall I like it though.
I've been working on this track at work which is incredibly hard as I'm a shift worker at the moment, but I had a couple of hours to put into it over the weekend.
My main focus is to improve the drums and the flow of the song.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Out of interest what sort of speakers do you listen to this on? The weird noisy rumbly thing is really pronounced on my speakers and they're basically tin cans. If you're using expensive shit to listen make sure you give it a go in shitty headphones and speakers too. I'm listening to the song on some tin cans and I've cranked the volume and that rumble is really pronounced
Anyway I know I haven't posted here in fuckin ages like usual, so I'm really rusty. Working full time now and only able to spend a little bit of time on music here and there, which is a shame
still pretty happy with this though

I like the vibe, it's a little silent though, not in terms of volume but just in general, everything apart from the drums sound like they're in the background of the mix and there's nothing that sticks out to give it some depth. It sounds good though so keep it up!

I love it, great chords and funky bassline. Kinda sounds daft punk-esque. Great sense of rhythm.

This is really great. Love the synth design throughout all this, it all meshes together really really well. The only suggestion I have is the rimshots you have at the start end too abruptly - you can hear the point where they cut off and it sounds a bit jerky whereas the rest of the mix is very smooth, so it stands out like a sore thumb. Once the rest of the mix comes in its less noticeable but it is definitely noticeable at the start. Maybe try adding in a slight reverb or a short delay to offset that.

I went back and remixed it based on your suggestions. I didn't add anything new to the mix or anything, but I increased the volume and tried to make it mix a little better I guess. Is the below an improvement? I'm hoping so because I'm probably not going to revisit after this - will just move on

Actually that was done intentionally, sometimes I like when reverb is cut off - But yeah I'm not so sure it worked that well in this case. Thanks for your feedback!

it feels like something i can get lost in and experience it. i like it. id reverb the snares a bit and change up the hihat patterns every now and then but thats not stopping the track from sounding good though
ive been trying to step up my producing game, and this sample towards the end of a beat i produced that my friend is gonna rap over. i mixed the whole thing stoned and even improvised the guitar solo while high nailing it in one take, which i guess explains why some notes drag on a bit too long, timing issues and a bit of mistakes, but i thought it added to the message of the song, nobody is perfect, and additionally i ended it messy too

This sounds great - little messy but that adds to the charm. Does the beat come in after this or just before? I'd be concerned that if the beat is strictly on the beat and this comes in it may be a nasty transition but it could end up working really well I suppose
Thanks for you feedback btw. I updated the song based on that, and I think I'm done with it now :)

no problem i love it now.
what you are hearing for mine isnt the whole thing, it is the end. chorus 2 occupies the first 12 seconds of the soundcloud sample.

The beat itself has potential. To me the electric guitars sound like you plugged them directly into your computer through a preamp. Clean sounds kinda weird like that, but it's more of a personal preference to me. They seem to be mixed very harshly too which really hurts my ears. You don't need really thick and pronounced guitars for them to be good.
Something that I think would work on this beat is to have the guitar on the rhythm setting if you have one, and to set the treble all the way down and then do some slow bending country kind of stuff.
Like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTiGwUSjfU4 during the first 30 seconds on the left speaker.

I'm listening with a logitech headset so I may be off base on the mix. The levels of the middle synth kinda drop off weirdly. Perhaps you are aiming for a dynamic track, but I had to change the volume on my headphones a couple times. It seems to get quieter and quieter in some sections.
The track itself is good though, really good synth work. Also for my other song I can hear the rumbling you guys are talking about now and I know how I fucked up.
Here's my attempt at idm, despite me giving advice about mixes I actually don't know too much about it. I think the synth during the 2:00 after section might be too loud and I may have fucked up the mastering process. but I'm kinda proud of finally getting myself to make lots of changes to drum parts.

Do you mean the synth that's auto panning and getting masked when it hits the middle?

I'd say make the drums and hats sound less 'static', as in change the variation up in the beat, change the variation in levels in the mix, or even utilize panning

Here's just a small part sampled from a rap song looped to like 2 minutes. I made a click to 140 bpm, what the original sample was at, then lowered the speed of the melody by 20 percent then recut it to the click, and raised the pitch by 25 percent. I slapped a limit on it, boosted the treble and cut noise at 20k. It is meant to sound very vivid and surreal

This sounds nice, I'm really liking the atmosphere in the intro that the background plucks and vocal(?) sample add. That said I think the drums could use some work, the arrangement itself works well but I think some of the samples sound really flat, especially the hat. The kick sound fine though.

Man I LOVE those plucks. I think the main chord synth could be a bit stronger or have a bit more modulation changing stuff like the resonance and attack but other than that it's sounding super nice. The composition is great man, sounds like there is a lot of emotion in the melodies and progression.

I'm not a fan of the main bass synth as it stands at the moment, I think some changes with the envelopes could really help to make it sound less flat. I'm liking the reversed piano notes. The percussion also sounds good.

The percussion sounds good except the constant velocity on the cowbell is quite irritating when it starts to play rapidly, maybe the snare should be a bit softer too. I think for those sections you should try adding a bit of swing to it with velocity and offsetting some of the triggers a fraction. I really like the panflute btw, it reminds me so much of some oldschool n64 games.

It doesn't sound much like IDM to me because I actually like the percussion a lot in this. Some of the atmospheric synths are nice but I definitely think it needs some more interesting hooks with some catchy melodies or fast arps to really keep the interest going.

Really digging this track!
I'd maybe like to hear it with some elements cut out to be honest. I feel this track could really benefit from less percussion in a weird way. A little more sub bass on that main bass lead and I could see myself listening to this regularly.

So I've gotten back into Nine Inch Nails in a big way, and am forcing myself to learn production now. Picked up one of these puppies

Now, I'm having a REALLY hard time understanding synths. Looking at the control panels for my plugins is like trying to read hieroglyphics. How did you guys learn all of this nonsense? I really want to figure it out

I remember when I felt the same way. What DAW are you using? I'd recommend starting off with super simple synths. If you're on FL, try 3x osc. Just spend time playing with each knob. If it doesn't do anything, save it for later. You can try presets to see what kind of sounds a synth can make, but you won't learn anything that way. No matter what you do, you'll learn how synths work by osmosis.
I'm decently familiar with Ableton, have a copy of 9 suite. I've got a small collection of vst synths I've gathered from shady German/Japanese websites. I'll provide some names tomorrow morning once I get off the clock
I'd advise learning learning why you'd actually turn a certain knob for a certain sound.
Playing around is okay till you hit a wall and need a specific sound and can't think of how to make it.

The first track is really good. I like the arabic influences in it. I don't know how well versed you are in theory so I'll leave that kind of talk out of this. But I liked the intervals you used. You have some very interesting production techniques which make the track feel more alive. But how much compression did you use? I'm not that well versed in production techniques yet, but it seems to me you used a lot of compression.

This is the loudest track I've ever heard. Like holy fucking shit dude. I like the song but I personally don't like this kind of mastering. Monstercat does it and so do lots of mainstream electronic acts so I guess it just sounds professional. It would probably be bangin in a club
