Does "completely new" mean we start today?
Yeah, I mean if you want to you could just go with something newish but for me, I like the challenge of having to make something within a deadline. Too few of those when you can just make music whenever you feel like it. :)
s
I really like this, I do agree that it needs more atmospheric parts in the calmer sections of the song, as they feel a little empty to me - but you got something great here, just need some little touches to make it amazing. Here's something I've been working on for a few days now
I remember seeing the Facepunch collab albums way before I even thought about making music myself, it would be an honor for me to be a part of it
I'm up for collabing with anyone
Would my latest song qualify? haha I'm still kinda working on it so technically it's not an old song
Would my latest song qualify? haha I'm still kinda working on it so technically it's not an old song
I can guarantee you my entry's going to be terrible, it's okay if yours is terrible too. Make something new.
it's not meant to be released to the public anyway, it's just shit and funzies so just go for it dude
I like this tune, it's got a great feel-good vibe to it. The bass is nice and funky, I wish I could make a bass like that, nice and fast-paced. In terms of the mix, personally I would enhance the hats a tiny bit, but it doesn't sound bad as-is. I would like a bit more stereo seperation, it sounds pretty shallow right now, but you also haven't used much reverb so that's part of the reason. This one is pretty dark and moody, also quite slow at 60BPM. I think I did a good job with the drums, what do you guys think?
I love the tone of that song! Really moody, and really atmospheric. I've come to share a couple songs I've made over the past couple weeks, I'm totally new to all of this, and would love some constructive criticism. ok I'll make something new, is there a specific genre for the album?
ok I'll make something new, is there a specific genre for the album?
the entire album has to be remixes of nicky minaj songs
ok, I made something weird and bassy
I've come to share a couple songs I've made over the past couple weeks, I'm totally new to all of this, and would love some constructive criticism.
ok I'll make something new, is there a specific genre for the album?
yes, avant-garde countryblues
yes, avant-garde countryblues
Damn I was thinking of participating with some industrial garden-soundscape metal
just found out my album was uploaded to one of those less-than-legal music download blogs i feel like this is an accomplishment of some sort
That's some good stuff my dude. Reminds me of some retro video game music. Really only negative I'd say is that explore doing some different stuff with the chord progression. You repeat a lot. Melody is great though in each piece.
ok, I made something weird and bassy
It started off really solid, but after the intro it kinda fell through. Honestly you should not be building up twice after "Feel the beat." In my opinion it should of went straight to 0:18. Also from a technical stand point you should work on the EQ a bit. The overall mastering sounds a bit off on your highs. Overall not a bad piece, its pretty solid, but personally its not something I actually listen to, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. ________________________________________ Here's something I've been working on. Its not finished by any means. Kinda of has some Prometheus vibes.

Are you talking about that low siren at 0:11? Also I was personally imagining space.
Sooo is this thread just all EDM music at this point? Nobody here plays in a band? Not knocking it, everyone has their own taste. I used to make EDM music years ago, but i'd like to make a thread for bands if there's none to be found here

We've had bands and stuff in here before. In fact, I'd like to see more; it's harder to make live music sound bad.
Wind? Are you talking about that low siren at 0:11? I started out producing electronic music on a computer before gradually spreading out into other genres and instruments. Now I produce all kinds of music playing most of the instruments myself, and I play drums in a psychobilly/surf-punk band and organ in a pub rock band.

Wonderful sense of movement. Love the harpy thing. The first crash was a bit loud but the rest are fine. Your sidechain is a little too long when the fifths come in, it sounds swung. Love the super high stuff, everybody needs more of it. Maybe make your main drone more stereo? I realized that it's modern progressive trance, so you could put more arps and field recordings and sound effects every 16 bars etc. if you want to make it moreso. [editline]26th February 2017[/editline] I recorded some piano and melodica into my "spend months on this" track. I wanted that 90s fake piano vibe so I recorded an octave lower and sped it up 2x.
i play post-rock and experimental music but i just play all the instruments myself instead of being in a band
That's acceptable as well, since I do the same :v: Cool looks like ya'll are on board, i'll go type up the thread
That's acceptable as well, since I do the same :v: Cool looks like ya'll are on board, i'll go type up the thread
I don't think anybody said "yes". We're a small enough community as is. [editline]26th February 2017[/editline] Someone who plays in a band might not know how to critique computer music though, so you have a point.

[editline]26th February 2017[/editline] Someone who plays in a band might not know how to critique computer music though, so you have a point.
Ya'll didn't say no either :q: real talk time now though, EDM music and bands are like Venus and Mars. The similarities lie mostly in the physical aspect (they both come in packages, they both make sounds, they both need to be mixed properly albeit differently) otherwise they're worlds apart I'm gonna go ahead and make the thread and if it flops, it flops. At least I gave it a try
I recorded some piano and melodica into my "spend months on this" track. I wanted that 90s fake piano vibe so I recorded an octave lower and sped it up 2x.
This mix has very little headroom, to put it lightly. The high notes on the melodica fits in nicely but the piano is barely audible except whenever the pounding kick isn't there. And when I do get a good earful around the 2 minute mark, it doesn't sound like a 90's rompler piano. However, it does sound interesting in its own right and worth using. Onto the more subjective qualities of the composition. This tune is delightfully catchy, however I'm not a huge fan of the vocals, they sound too much like the sort of pop music you hear in Spotify commercials. Your chord progressions are really nice, harmonically interesting and suitable for pop at the same time. I can hear some similarities with it to the progressions of Jim Stärk's "Morning Song" and Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely". [editline]26th February 2017[/editline] (I don't want to make WIP tracks that are as early as this public on Soundcloud so no embed) https://soundcloud.com/brotherworks/ambivalence-part-1-alpha-version/s-CCe6r An early version of a two-parter prog rock tune featuring the takes from the University studio and the Minilogue. No guitars yet, gonna add that later. The organ is also supposed to last through the entire song, but it's only there in the first half for now.

This actually helped a lot, I'm still working on my technique with all forms of EDM and these tracks are just experiments to help me find and develop my own style. I made another one recently:
This is super cool. Wonderful sense of movement. Love the harpy thing. After the beginning it's something I'd personally listen to, well done on that!
love the sounds here, reminds me of chiptune, does feel a little flat though - might need some more powerful percussion or bass to make it pop
I've taken your advice, and also definetly going to listen to this comment too! And I'd love to know how you did the instruments, are they samples? Or are you recording? Based off the first comments I made this: I just need to focus on chord progressions, varied melodies and I'll start learning some music theory too.

I'm having trouble thinking of anything to criticize, maybe work on the equalisation a little more - bring out the lows. Is this the final? If not, definitely add some more sections since it's a little repetitive right now and I want to hear more of it.
