I had already sent mine before he disappeared
Hoping he actually got it

I believe I still have the track, not downloaded but the link at least :)
For me, it is almost finished!
I just need to lay down some solo guitar, work on the dynamics of the track (it's probably going to be around 3½ minutes long and I've got 4 tracks of guitar laid down that hopefully can add some variety to it, since it's built on a single chord progression. People are going to recognize it :v

I really liked this one. For me though on my set up, the mastering seemed a little bright. The drums could be a little more bassy/louder too. But over all its great man.
I agree the kick is kinda weak but I'm not sure a more distorted kick would work better. might be worth playing with other kicks with more thud to them.
i dig it, my minor comment would be that i think i it could use more variation on the high-end towards the end of the song.
What are peoples mastering tips for getting their tracks louder without compromising on dynamic range? I feel like my track could've been a little louder but any more compression or limiting made it sound flat and lifeless. General feedback also welcome, this is my first real track in like a year.

Beautiful, I just feel that the strings are a little to bright. Again, could be my sound setup. But its really fantastic!

I just released a new track up onto my soundcloud. I make psychedelic electronic ambient music with a touch of nostalgia and inspiration from artists such as Royksopp and Boards Of Canada. I'd appreciate all of your thoughts on this one, thanks!

I'm not really sure what to say about this. Some of the synth FX would probably work better if they were bandpassed, they seem a bit too squelchy. It needs more melodic elements. It seems like a good track for an album, but I don't think I would find myself wanting to listen to it on its own. It's the inverse of what I do (your percussion is way better than mine) and that makes it hard to critique. As far as the mix goes, it sounds great.

Thank's for your feedback. The track is actually apart of a full length album which is why its designed in a way which flows between the songs. And I'm glad the mix is good, this is probably like my 57th render by now.

This is actually the track which is followed after that track that I just uploaded.

calm but eerie, you should experiment with some backing drones or ambient waves to make it a bit more dynamic

nice ambiance but the structure seems a bit flawed, it's clearly building up to something but instead of having that crescendo of some sort it just stops and fades out
i dont really listen to much of this type of music so take it with a pinch of salt though
here's a clip of the track that i've been working on recently that i'll have a longer version of for the collab

It's beautiful, listening to your songs with actual instruments and some solid drums (as in, soundwise. Productionwise you've always made good drums).
Alright, so on sunday I will compile the tracks that I've recieved (only three :<) and create the facepunch collab album.
Anyone still remember the password for it? I know the user is fpgregah, but the password is lost in my memory.
I'll just create a new account if nobody remembers :)
[editline]29th October 2017[/editline]
I'll write a new message when I start compiling the album SO you still have a chance at sending a track.

I don't know what to do with this, well except for playing some guitar solo over all of this and mix it properly :v
Write some rap lyrics and spit some hot fire

that'd be 4 songs once i send mine, isn't that too few?
maybe we should delay it until we get 2 or 3 more songs in
as much as i want a new collab album to come out it wouldn't be much of a collab album with only 4 songs

I can't put my finger on who this reminds me of. Even still, its really good. I'd say you need a little more variation on the drums. It felt like the entire song was building up to something but it kind of stays at one level.
So last night, I decided to remake my first song. I'm unsure how to finish this. Its kinda in the style of how I made music like a year and a bit ago. I used a lot of Synths for this one. You'll most notably hear my MS-20 and MonoPoly.

the rest of the track has a really cool psychedelic vibe but the sound of the distortion guitars doesn't really fit that feel, they're very clean and clear while everything else is drenched in that wet psychedelia
maybe a bit more variety on the melodic side too but since it's only 3 minutes it's not that big of an issue

I agree, we'll wait with the release until at least two more people send in their tracks. :)
is there a thread somewhere for generic DJ chat or is this probably the best place for it?

coo'
anyway:
[t]http://s3.amazonaws.com/factmag-images/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/djs-1000-angle-616x440.jpg[/t]
pioneer just released the DJS-1000, which basically appears to be a toraiz sampler in a CDJ styled body. Colleague is pretty much in love with the thing, and has spurred him on to upgrade his shitty denon decks (SC2900) to that + 2 CDJ2000nxs2. He notoriously has a thing against pioneer, so switching from denon to pioneer is a big jump for him.
I've got a gig in january and potentially may have one for new year, and thinking of investing the money from it straight back into some kit. Whilst a controller seems like the most sensible solution, my laptop is a piece of shit; runs horrendously slow (opening a chrome tab freezes it for a second) and even lags when running Serato DJ. If I were to buy a controller, I'd need to buy a new laptop too, so that's me already in the £1K-2K range. I'm really tempted to get a couple XDJ700s. They're pretty small and on first glance appear to be missing a lot of features, but turns out that it's actually got a feature set up nearly identical to a CDJ2000nxs, however mostly accessible via touchscreen. Given that a CDJ2000nxs will probably still set you back ~£1.3K, and that the XDJ comes in at £600; it's a complete no-brainer. It doesn't have a CD slot which isn't an issue as I almost entirely run off rekordbox / usb, and the smaller jog wheel shouldn't be a problem. I'm gonna research a bit more into mixers as I'd prefer to get a 4 channel one to futureproof, and then from there whether I should look at Pioneer or Allen & Heath ( given pioneer's mixers sound quality is a bit dubious).
I'm also very tempted to sack getting two XDJs and instead getting one Denon SC-5000. The denon deck features two independent layers, allowing me to DJ from only surface. I know this'd be a challenge and that I'd have to really be on the ball, but it's a very new bit of kit which I could easily rent out and would futureproof me for quite a while; only issue is that denon's preparation software (engine prime) is nowhere near as good as rekordbox, and given I spend a solid 5 minutes meticulously going over every new track I buy in rekordbox, would completely bother me. That, plus having to reanalyse and re-edit every single song I own as it doesn't allow me to import tracks from rekordbox.. The SC-5000 comes in at roughly £1.5K; so it's still £300/£400 more expensive than the XDJ700s, but is more feature rich and future proofy
Anyone else have any ideas, or whether one option is instantly better than the other?
Anyone here write lyrics or poetry or anything? I'd love to try to make music out of someones texts. I've been struggling for years to make songs with lyrics, written so many drafts and made so many projects but I'm not a lyrical guy, so I guess I'll throw the idea out here, if anybody has some lines they'd feel like sharing with me, hit me up, I'd appreciate it a ton! No particular subject or theme, just anything with a bit of rhythm to it.

I believe you should attempt to write your own. They may be edgy and cliché, they can be simple too, but you can only get better through practice

I really, really like your drums. Synths sound amazing. I'd say it the strings need to be just a tiny bit louder, feels like it needs some movement in the mid areas.

This could be like a movie soundtrack, sounds kinda a sci fi industrial kinda tune. I dig the panning drums at the end too.
I haven't posted music here for a real long time despite commenting, but here's a beat I made with headphones with no bass in them cause I was too lazy to unpack my monitors.

You should definitely keep working on writing your own (its the only way to get better, just write write write) but if you're looking for something to just inspire a musical piece I've got all sorts of stuff I could send. DM if you're interested.

You might want to unpack those monitors. A lot of your low-bass / bass tones are muddy and off key. I really like the bell synth loop for its plucked sound, but it seems to take a backseat whereas it could've been more prominent in the song's mix. Also, for the synthesizer you're using for the lead, I'm not sure if you're using an automated low pass or some sort of ring mod, but it ruins whatever little fatness it had in the first place.
It's not terrible, but the mixing and songwriting is quite flawed atm.

glad to see you back
strong atmosphere like your tracks usually have, i can imagine this being an intro for one of those dark, dreary, eerie kind of vaporwave tracks
structurally it reminds me a lot of one of your earlier tracks, Mourning Lows, which has similar use of contrasting calm and eerie chords
[editline]4th November 2017[/editline]
so any additions to the collab album yet?
weird that they used to stretch out for over 2 hours at one point but now there's barely enough people to even make a full length album

here:
Collab album part... ???
Alright, so, let's give this a try, again!
Send in a track that you are PROUD of!
So the most important thing is, that you have to dig your own track. This isn't done for getting recognition (or well, I mean technically) and bumping your ego, this is your ego bumping us with a pretty damn good track of yours!
The track has to be normalized at -0,1 dB
Don't know how to do this? Set a limiter on your master track, and put it at -0,1 dB.
Using samples or anything that you personally haven't created? Get rights for them, or don't have them in your track!
This isn't really something that's going to make it big and get us $$$ of cash, but unlawfully using samples or anything else that you personally don't have copyright on can still get us in trouble. Look into Creative Commons and what rights YOU, the artist, have before submitting! IF you're unsure, ask in the thread!
No limit!
NO no, no no no no, no no no no, no no there's no limit
To how much fun this is going to be, oh and also no limit NO LIMIT on the length of the track.
One track per artist.
Submitting a track? Be ready to give feedback!
We're all into this for fun, but it is also awesome to hear views from others on your own masterfully ~special~ track. So, be prepared to have to spend at least one actual listen to the whole album, and spend a few minutes afterwards on giving your thoughts.
Don't think you can give your thoughts? What are you, a turkey? You have ears, you have a brain (hopefully), combine those two and listen. Listen, and tell us what you like, dislike, think could be changed, shouldn't be changed, or just how much the track makes you want to break your neck from headbanging!
It's not rocket surgery :)
Deadline is the 28th of october!
That makes it a MONTH until we get this show started, all you have to do is to send me a .wav of your track and whatever information you want on it.
I think this is it, oh yeah we need a cover as well. I can MSpaint something stupid if nobody can make a proper one.
Oh, and who remembers the login credentials? :v
[editline]29th September 2017[/editline]
Think of this as a challenge to make a new track! Or don't, I mean we do it for fun and I'm not your real DAD OK?!
deadline's been passed but there were only like 4 songs submitted so it's extended until we have like 6 or 7 or so songs
here:
