There was one a little while ago, album art was made and everything, but I don't think anything ever came of it
skeeter tried hosting an earlier one last year so must've been that
Here are two lo-fi / hiphop tracks I've been working on, let me know what you think. I'm not sure how to end either of them yet, but I figure it'll come to me sooner or later. If you can imagine lyrics or another lead of some kind feel free to mess with it (luver) =-)
I was thinking I would focus on just one of these possibly for the FP album and try to hammer it out over the long weekend, but we'll see.
Anyways here they are, in their current state (WIP):

For the first one the bass could be a little more straight, it sounds a off but it sounds like you're going for a free jazz kinda vibe. Sounds like what's on John Frusciantes album Outsides or Welcome to the world of Parasitic Beach by Gorillaz
The second one get's really cool at 2:39, the synth choir sounds cool as fuck. It's almost as if I'm listening to Majoras mask almost.
Here's a song I did a year ago

here's something I did 2 and a half years ago, that is a zelda sample

To add on to what speedhax said, what really stood out to me was how MIDI-ish the drums sounded. I would suggest trying to look for some drum samples and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, I would try to EQ and reverb the drums and see if that makes a difference.
Other than that it's a pretty good start, and I really liked the pianos.
Here's a track that I just made today, but I'm not sure if this is what I should put on the album or I should make another one for it, but any feedback is appreciated.

Fuck man...
In the intro I was about to reply saying something along the lines "As someone who dabbles a bit with hiphop this is something I would sample" then those beautiful drums came in.
Really dig this. My only suggestion would be to mix it up a bit in the middle but to be honest it's not necessary as this track stands out as-is.
Cross-post from the new forum but I made this today on my lunch break and spent a little time fixing it up after work.
Any feedback is much appreciated

Alright so, I think we're up to 8 or 9 tracks now :) This is awesome, I'll make a bandcamp account on tuesday and we'll have this badboy out on thursday! Or friday, what date do you guys want?
How do you save .flp's so that you can store them on a drive without them breaking and losing all the sameples? Like, I want to archive all of my stuff in a way that when I go back to an old song, it just works and I don't have to dig up/manually re-route all the samples I used. And I also dont want to have to open each one, find what I used and where its located, and manually store/organize samples that would get lost if I just copied the .flp...

Does FL have "collect and save" like Bitwig does? If it doesn't, you'll have to make a folder for the project and copy all your samples and the project file into it, then relocate all your samples in the project.
[editline]26th November 2017[/editline]
Oh wait, you can just use the export menu: https://www.image-line.com/support/flstudio_online_manual/html/menu_file.htm

I love this, it sounds like I'm in an industrial complex and their is a music PA system playing awesome sega genesis ambient tracks. I'd seriously consider getting into soundtracks.
So, after listening to The Avalanches. Decided to experiment and make my first fully plunderphonics track. Let me know what you guys think.

The guitar sample doesn't really seem to stay in tempo with the beat. It was really throwing me off. I really like the synth that comes in at 1:06, but nothing else really stands out. Try mixing up that guitar sample, going for short tight excerpts rather than full phrases.

I took your advice to heart and updated the sound on soundcloud to the new mix. Much happier with this mix now and mixed in a few more of the samples I was working with. ( Remember to Ctrl-F5 else it might not update because of the cache ).

This makes me want to watch frag videos. The melody bit on that midi viola or whatever it is needs to be massaged to sound less uniform. I'd say humanise it but you don't want it to go out of time, you just want it to vary in other ways like velocity.

I think it needs a sitar drone all the way through it like one of those Beatles songs from when they discovered acid.
I wrote this song 3 hours ago

Anyone know of a good hardware synth for someone who wants to make everything from a simple bass to a complex pad? I enjoyed the minilogue when I rented it but it just wasn't deep enough.

Monophonic? Polyphonic? Analog? Digital? Semi-modular?

Makes me think that song you posted is a the actual song to this, this is what I sampled.
Monophonic? Polyphonic? Analog? Digital? Semi-modular?
Not monophonic since I want chords lmao. Digital is fine with me, whatever gets the job done. I'm just really hating midi keyboard with FL studio right now.
Man, I keep churning out demos that by all impressions could be developed into something nice and then I never manage to develop them into proper songs. Does anyone else have this issue? Any tips?

What's your price range?
I haven't played it personally but just going taking a peek at Roland's lineup, the GAIA SH-01 looks like a lot of fun. It seems to have three simultaneous layers that each have their own LFO, OSC, Filter+Env, and Amp+Env sections, which are all routed into a full effects section, plus physical buttons for everything. It's digital so it's under $500. If the core tones are good that sounds like a steal.

Honestly anything over 500 is steep for me. I've heard of that one, my local store rents them out for like 20 bucks so I'll check it out.
Eek my track probably won't be done in time for the album, so go ahead and just save a spot on the next 1 for me. I'll be busy for awhile. Can't wait to hear what it'll sound like!
Was playing around with my guitar and a pad today, and ended up with this. I havent really touched the second half of the song, but it turned out better than I thought it would have.
Anyone good with room EQ? I've got 8 inch speakers in a small room and until I have the means to downsize and monitor the curve, I'm not sure how to nullify the standing waves :(
You could place the microphone in the center of the room, blast a sinus wave at a set volume and record it with a microphone to see where things might turn ugly.
Getting those monitors close to your ears and mix on low volume might be your best shot though, if the room has nasty properties for mixing.

Collabs can be an excellent way of taking good source materials and push them into greatness :) I wouldn't mind checking your tracks out and maybe getting something done.
You could hit me up with the track/s and I can start jamming out to them, see what comes out? :)

I'm ok with waiting a couple of days, say december 3rd if you think it's possible to get it done until then? :)

It'll be tough finding a good polysynth in that price range, even if you go digital. The Gaia doesn't really sound any better than your average mid-2000's VST either so I can't recommend it.
Look into the used market. You can fetch an old Ensoniq ESQ-1 for pretty cheap. It can make pretty complex sounds with the wavetables and it has analog filters, but it's pretty menu-divey. The more modern Waldorf Blofeld might do a little bit better in that regard (and the desktop version of can be dirt cheap used).
You could also look into the Roland boutiques and the Yamaha Reface CS/DX, but 500 bucks can only get you so far.
Alright, I've got us at 8 tracks now so I'll work on the release tomorrow :) Going to be awesome listening to what everybody has done, and to give some more in-depth thoughts as well!
Great job everyone!

Was there a specific way to send the tracks? I PM'd but I'm not sure if it went through.

I'm surprised to hear that the Gaia sounds that bad for such a new synth, I wish I could hear it for myself.
I have heard good things about the ESQ-1 as well, it often shows up in lists of budget boards but I wasn't sure how much interest there was in old hardware around here.
Also the Oberheim Matrix synths are wonderful and may not sell for less than 500 anymore but it's possible. I have a 1000 with new firmware and I love it to death. They require some interface slogging as well but they sound great and there's just so many parameters to work with.

This feels insanely prog rock and almost a tint of psychedelica in there too. I love it. Since you mentioned you haven't touched the second part. All my comments are invalid, since all it needs is a master and it'll sound great.
I don't have any new music to post, but I found an album I made a couple of months ago that I never released. I guess you could call it a work in progress, or more or less an abandoned project. I want to remove track 5 completely and replace it with something else if I were to release this, but i hope you guys enjoy!
