That's great what you've got so far there, man! It definitely sounds like it's going to expand into something much more "grand" when it hit the end there. Keep it up! After finally getting Hotline Miami, and falling in love with it last week, I was inspired to make this piece. Soundcloud
I left this song playing on my pc, and my roommate comes and asks me whether I was playing Hotline Miami. Dude, very nice work. I think you got the style just perfect. Loved the percussion, mostly the cymbal work. Great job! a little rework on a piece a friend made. Not finished. I think that on my last tracks I can really see which style I am going for as a musician.
Been writing a short piano/string piece to take a break from the neurofunk track, nothing particularly special but I might continue it:
i love this! seems like an awesome way to break away from the heavy neurofunk sound design stuff and work on your more melodic side (something i should do more haha). the only thing that seemed a bit off was the chord change at 0.18, it just seemed a bit awkward to me. nice work overall though, really relaxing piece. i finally got a chance to work with some rap vocals and made a nice bassy remix of a friend's track called "ashtray". it was really hard trying to improve upon the original because it's an amazing experimental track, super inspiring stuff! still pretty happy with the way it turned out though :)

Man this track is sweet. Percussion is nice, bass is subtle but awesome and the occasional stabs are nice. The cymbal-ish thing in the background is cool and what sounds like overdriven breathing (aka darth vader) is awesome too. The section starting at 1.40 could perhaps do with a little more background percussion similar to what comes in a few bars later but a little more understated perhaps. Worked on a new thing for a couple of hours, not sure if I like it yet but I guess it could go somewhere... I'm trying to get a lot of practice in and decide on a style for an ep so I'm trying out a few different types of neurofunk-esque stuff at the mo.

Thanks! just been working on a few different things, my first time trying to make trap

Very trapp-y, so you're definitely on the right track here. I don't listen to much trap so I can't really comment, love the synth at 0:20ish.

This is great, could imagine turning on the radio and hearing this. I've found a theme for that song above (and worked on the drop a bit more). Massively WIP but I think it has potential now!
Woo! Alix Perez played two of my tunes in the new UKF mix :)

This WIP started with just messing about with some guitar tones trying to replicate stuff and somehow managed to spend the whole day recording a recomposing. Kinda my first "remix" if you wanna call it,reused the bass, drums and vocals from the multitrack of the song : Definitely will try to finish it.

Been producing some really bizarre, dark, avant-garde electronic stuff. There's a lot of fucked up noises, syncopation, and tension going on, but that's sorta my schtick - it resolves in the end. http://soundcloud.com/bassmaze/ritual
i love the background drums that come in around 30 seconds in, it gives the track nice train-like rhythm all the weird noises are very cool as well (especially the one at 1.25) but the main problem is that it doesn't really feel like it's progressing at all like there's occasional build-up but it never really leaves or goes anywhere and just comes back right after the build-up is over that staticness and the really silly bass-line that plays throughout the whole track (you could've really used a more interesting bass melody or at least one that's dark) make it sound more like the background music to a horror-themed spyro level than an actually dark and unnerving track so yeah, all the noises and stuff are cool, but if you want to go for a dark feel you really need to build tension and add unpredictability to your track instead of building it around a single non-spooky bass loop

Granted, I've never heard the original I think, but the guitar is just... Wow, amazing! Excellent use of dynamics too, I think the only thing I would think of changing is letting the drum come forth a bit more, at least the kick y'know? The guitar is heavy and it is a shame if the kick can't be there too. I bought a Cajon
what daw are you using?
FL studio. I love it's workflow and it's UI; it's so noob friendly I got really used to it. [editline]16th March 2015[/editline] Oh, and you asked some insight, well there isn't much to it. Just some synth creation, some synth modification, and basically automations which raise the cutoff cap in almost all of the synths as long as the song "rises".
I guess the drum track is private now.
Just finished the first version of a music production community website I've been working on. It's modeled after news.ycombinator.com/producthunt.com/reddit a bit in the sense that it's focused around link sharing (text posts are okay too though!) but I've got some really cool plans for it once a bit of a community is established. http://soundwav.es/ In the interest of curating the community a bit it's invite only for now, but if you drop an invite request on the signup page and mention FP in the notes box I'll very likely shoot you an invite today :)

Hey, guys. Is this the appropriate thread to ask about how to get into music making? I've been fooling around with FL Studio for the last year or so and have many years of music theory under my belt, but I'm having trouble making anything that doesn't sound like a bunch of presets splashed together. I'd like to sample things, but I don't know when to do so tastefully. I'd very much like to make a song like this style-wise: But I haven't the slightest idea of how to get started doing so.

Resampling has been done ages in music production & I don't see how asking where I could find those string samples is bad? I only asked because I'm working on a aussie hop-hip breakdown in a track and I'm in need of some decent string samples.
