Digging the reggae vibe! I think the drums kind of get a bit too start&stop starting at 0:39, I think if you added a kick drum on the upbeat on the 4th beat it would become more flowing and then transition a lot better to the kick n snare, kick snare beat you have going. [editline]30th June 2015[/editline] Your voice, so beautiful! I think it would be so cool if you built the surrounding rhytmic instruments with only your voice, like Imogen Heap Hide&Seek or Lorde with Royals. What's the plan with the track? I hope you're having some grand Pink Floyd-esque tracks too, or just massive rock'n'roll wall of sound type of tracks with that voice of yours :) I'm working on some house-technoish thing where I'm remixing Adele's someone like you: https://soundcloud.com/skriket/someone-like-wobbl/s-UAkhm I can't mediatag because it's in private right now, and I'm a bit lost of both mixing and production. I think I got some sort of skeleton right now to continue on, but there's something lacking y'know?
Haha thanks man, I really appreciate it! That sounds like a nice idea, I'll definitely give it a try. My plan is basically to create a series of songs telling a story. This is my second real attempt at making a song in which I sing.
This sounds pretty frickin' rad man! I feel like you should add a part where it's very relaxed and quiet and then get back to the music. Could fit easily since the song isn't that long. The ending was the only part that I found meh, other than that it's awesome man. What did you use for the synthesizers?
It's image-line's 3x OSC being run through distortion, reverb and it's been EQ'd a bit wacky, thanks for the feedback! There isn't really an ending to that one yet, I still wanna play around with it a little more and maybe re-mix everything to generally tighten up the whole track and maybe include a slow part to let the anticipation build
Digging the reggae vibe! I didn't do any major work while on our cruise and didn't find any inspiration (I had hope too) but I still spent a not inconsiderable amount of time reading pdfs I had downloaded on mixing. I'd really recommend giving the iZotope mixing guide a read, it was super helpful and did produce a difference in my quality. Listening ot my first attempt at a mixdown vs what I have now is damn near night and day, if I get to the point I don't entirely loathe it I may add the entire song here but I still need to make it less boring before I do that. Also trying bassgorilla for a bit, I work 10 days then I'm off 10 days or so so I'll be spending my offtime going through the tutorials I paid for there and stuff. I'll let you guys know if its worth it, I'm mostly in it for learning music theory since my Coursera courses I wanted to take aren't actually starting for another 2 months :I
Hey Skeeter, its July 2 - when is that album getting released [editline]2nd July 2015[/editline] what else needs to be done on it
Album art and more tracks, right now I've only recieved about 4 entries :v: Maybe people can throw in another track?
i kinda forgot it was even happening so i didn't make a song yet
I was gonna make a song, but I've got a case of writer's block and can't finish it yet.
Kinda couldn't get to finish my current track either, mostly because most of my time is occupied with uni right now.

Maybe add multiple harmonizing voice tracks? It probably wont fit with the style you're going for, but just a suggestion. I think it would sound really cool if you add low note cello hits on each beat during the chorus. It sounds a little empty at the moment. All in all, I think this is a great track so far, keep up the good work! --- I made this EDM song yesterday, and I'm going for a style that's similar to songs on Laszlo's new album Closer. And maybe a little bit Porter Robinson.

Grabs your attention and what comes after? Sounds happy and joyous :) The drums are hella tight too, the snare especially! Smacks you right in the face the way EDM drums should. This track, I like! I want to dance to it all night long and just be happy I can move, great job dude :) I too have made some sort of EDM track, a remix of Adeles "Someone Like You" in fact. I'm not really good at giving feedback but I'd just improve the mix a lil, otherwise the idea is cool. I'm finishing up an audio journal-like album full of stuff I've made these 4 years in highschool from when I started till now. Hoping to sort of convey my mindsets and thoughts in these years growing up, or share my story I guess. Oh, the "clipping" is because I added distortion to the bass (and drums at a break) at select times (to mimic clipping) :)

Yeah I was thinking of harmonizing, but I've never done anything like that and I have no idea if it even fits. The chorus is going to be different instrumental wise, kinda figuring that out right now haha, but it'll be a lot less empty!

Your voice is great and you've got great control over it, especially your falsetto and also when you add a little grit. Your vibrato might get a little too narrow when youre pushing it. Also, it would be great to hear some more instruments as well once(if) this gets developed. Very rough demo, lap steel parts and the lead after are tentative. My first try at those layering type songs.
Wow Mr._N, your sound is giving me some heavy David Gilmour vibes (I love him lol) I love your slower melodic playing layered on top of those pleasant and spacey chords, and the one note synth just creates this majestic stage for your song to exist. I feel like I could be flying through clouds in a dream listening to this ha I think you could show more with your guitar playing here though by sparingly adding some more intricacies or something that just makes your ears melt out of pleasure in your lead part. Just play out bro and stick to the shape and development already present in your piece! This is some good shit though dawg, for real not just saying that
Pretty nice atmospheric track, sounds very Mike Oldfieldish about at the middle. Would have loved if the overall harmony had developed a bit more, the current track has a good buildup, but it lacks something that finishes off. You could try playing around with the bass track a little more. --- Here is some mostly finished WIP of mine, which has been idling on my hard drive:

Considering there's only 4 submissions, who thinks they should get off their butts and submit something for the collab album?
I've never really recorded or produced rap until the past month. Been helping a good friend of mine make his album. Any tips on production?
Here is some mostly finished WIP of mine, which has been idling on my hard drive:
Mix is decent and the song itself is solid all around. My biggest problem with the track as it stands is the kick drum pattern. It just got a little repetitive and I don't think the interrupt in the 4x4 should happen as often as it does. The hi-hat also kinda sounded like it was panned to the left and there was no other percussion or hats on the right pan balancing it out.
I made something on fruityloops, no idea how to continue, any tips?
It sorta sounds like you have a phaser or flanger over the entire track. My advice to you would be to separate individual elements of the instruments (high/mid/low melodies or chords) and give them their own separate mixing/fx tuning. Because of the way you filtered the piano, the low notes especially sound unsatisfying IMO. The phaser/flanger might add a nice touch to a smaller range of frequencies, but not the entire piano pattern. -- Bass heavy acid dance track. https://soundcloud.com/messier-51/caway/s-VsgJn I tried putting reverb on the bass and it works decently well, atleast when the bass is alone with the drums
Gonna try listen to a few tracks here once I've got some stuff done. I was also wondering, is there a way to remove at least some of the groundloop whine from my interface? It's a USB interface being part of what's essentially my gaming/music/everything else setup so I'm not expecting to be able to achieve a perfect signal, I just wanna try remove some of the high pitch whine from my mic's signal if possible
Made this last night and dropped it today. Let me know what you guys think.
Clean, you seem to have a good idea what you are doing with the bass, hate the "run the traapp" sample though... Song actually has some character to it though, feel like soundcloud is just overly saturated with this style of "trap" but this is a bit fresh. Diggin them soft hi-hats too, in fact there is lots of great use of subtle sounds I am picking up on as I hear it, nice. Good formula here, just feel like it be a bit more unique. Here is a track I have been working on lately, wanting to get a nice "save the world" type of sound with some trap elements worked in. So I guess it could be like "epic heroic melodic trap"

Unless you're willing to spend some money on gear then you'll probably not be able to remove any noise from your recording. What stuff do you have hardware-wise and how is it currently set up? Depending on how it is set up you might be able to rearrange some and lessen it at least :)

This thread looks like a place where I could learn new things. I keep thinking that I'm hearing clipping but that might be something to do with the way you lowpassed the drums. I think the high end on the snare could be brought down a little (the white noise on the tail end of the snare bugs me a little bit but that's a personal problem.) Its very full sounding! the mixing sounds great on my speakers. I'm not working on anything worth sharing at the moment, but i'll definitely post when I get the chance. I'll give some feed back on some newer stuff when it gets posted. What is the sample that this is from if you don't mind me asking? Feels like you've done quite a good job there - I like the rhythms you've chosen
Man Ideas are just gone lately. Ive been listening to other peoples stuffs and some of it is soo good its discouraging
Best piece of advice I can ever give is to not give up - the work will be rewarded. Even when you're thinking of starting a track and they you're like 'ah i cant be bothered' - still do it, inspiration comes from hard work not just out of the blue. I'm not implying you're slacking or anything btw just worthwhile noting that you get out what you put in. If i listen to stuff I made even a year or two ago it's embarrassing to me because of how much I've improved - don't be disheartened, you can only get better. A cool tip as well if you're not sure where to start with a track: find a song you like of the style you want (and find out the tempo or get close) and put it into your daw. Use this as a reference - every time that track changes or adds something in, you change something in the track you're making. Basically copy the structure in a way, obviously not just exactly the same though - like if it brings in a new drum part, that doesn't mean you have to bring in a new drum part, just bring in SOMETHING or make some kind of change. This is really really useful for giving yourself a kickstart when you're lacking ideas.
