Yeah that's a nice sample. You've done a great job completely transforming it into something else entirely
I've been looking around on synthesizers lately and my mom might finance it, so I've been trying to figure out what a good starting synth would be, will probably buy a used one on ebay. At first I was thinking of either going for the Yamaha AN1X or the Roland JP8000, but then I found out about the Access Virus synthesizers and they seemed really good aswell, and I feel like I would like to get one of those instead. I've been using soft synthesizers for a while now (mostly Albino 3 and Massive), and I know how they work, so I'm not entirely clueless, I've just never used a hard synth. http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/virusc.php this one seems decent enough and is priced fairly well on ebay. Would this be a good buy? Do you guys have any tips or input?

If you've got a fairly big budget I'd say go for an old classic analogue synth, or save up for the big guns like the prophet. Then again it depends on what you're expecting from it - what kind of music do you make? Virus C is a good synth - just worth bearing in mind what I've said if you're wanting genuine analogue rather than emulation (so is the JP8000)
https://soundcloud.com/messier-51/caway/s-VsgJn I tried putting reverb on the bass and it works decently well, atleast when the bass is alone with the drums
I like your style.

I am leaning a little towards synthwave, but maybe a bit house or generic dance music, not really sure. http://vocaroo.com/i/s0GmDlPOFW5a just messing around
Yeah fair enough then, I imagine the Virus is right at the top end for your budget. Just look at all those nobs for programming the sound right at your fingertips! I like your style, nice juicy synth sounds. I've been looking at loads of synths ever since I saw your post and now I'm sad because I can't afford any haha
I like the minimal sound of it! I think you did a good job placing everything in the mix. I'm a big fan of the melody and the structure of it. Towards the end, the low end gets a but muddy so eqing the pad and/or the bass that comes in at 2:20 would help a lot.
Yeah I think I tend to make things kinda muddy, I definitely gotta improve my equializing game and my mixing skills in general.
MrJazzy makes me jealous. I didn't end up doing anything on BassGorilla. It was going to cost too much for me and I can save the money for stuff later this year and paying for school, so all I've been doing is using Synthesia to practice piano. Did 1 octave scales for an hour today, was boring but satisfying. I'd like to be able to play Experience by Ludovico Einaudi by the end of next week, since starting 2pm tomorrow I'm off work for a week. I can already feel myself getting ebtter at recognizing good notes for music and stuff, and getting a better idea of how to play and compose music thanks to just tinkering with my keyboard. So soon I shall make something again. Had fuckall creativity for a month but I'm just biding my time by building skills.
Yeah I think I tend to make things kinda muddy, I definitely gotta improve my equializing game and my mixing skills in general.
As a general thing, if i'm not making something specifically as a bass, I cut anything around 80hz and below, and adjust to my liking from there.
i love the vibe this track has, nice and chill, i love the panning and that funky ass bass it's really nice to see you unbanned by the way, missed you<3<3 i've been working on this, it's a remix of do you remember by jack johnson https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58951386/jackjohnson.mp3 i'm thinking about making it a full cover/mix, with rerecorded vocals, but i'm not sure (i like the novelty of it being a mix of a song that's never been remixed as far as i know). there are some parts that need cleaning up and some areas feel a bit empty, i need to add something else to the parts at 0:50 and 2:10, they sound a bit bland my vsti library is a bit saturated and i'm used to making hip-hop whereas with this track i'm going for a chill electro style, which requires mostly different sounds to rap :v:

I'd say try to keep it that way. One complaint though is with the kick drum I think it would sound better if you turned down the resonance on it (I think that's what's going on, I might be wrong.) , or if its a sample I'd choose another one. This is a scrap from the album I'm working on. It didn't really fit and I didn't like the structure, but I put too much work into it to not release it. tfw don't know anything about music processing, nor electronic music so I can't really give any criticism also, does anyone here play any sort of post-folk/folk/emo/whatever the fuck? I'd love to hear some if anyone does any for inspirations sake.
Considering there's only 4 submissions, who thinks they should get off their butts and submit something for the collab album?
i should deffo come here more often, what are the deets on this? like song length/genre/deadline etc?
I've never really recorded or produced rap until the past month. Been helping a good friend of mine make his album. Any tips on production?
this isnt exactly my kind of thing, its well produced and the organ sounds really remind me of F-Zero, but it doesnt really seem to hit very hard if you get me? Also my personal preference, id have probably made the piano at the beginning sound a lot more like a real piano than a digital one, it would add some interesting contrast to the rest of the song. in terms of vocals, id have kept the instrumental going along side it a little longer, and not have faded out the vocals at the end. Maybe try adding a bit of reverb to give it a bit more texture?

Do you guys have any tips on how to utilize pauses and silence in a rhythmic way? I realize that I need to get better at that to be able to make my songs sound more punchy and funky but I find it so hard to sit down and make drums+bass+synths come together in a funky pattern, I mostly don't bother and just make my songs like an overarching mix with no real pauses except at the end of sections of the song such as before the chorus. [editline]14th July 2015[/editline] Here's an example of what I mean, the synths are very harsh and when they start playing and then stop abrubptly while the drums keep going and then start again with no attack, it gets that punchy kick feeling.
it's all about "the one", that's what parliament (pioneers of funk) teach; the one, as in the first beat, is where the power's at, that's where the tune gets all it's force and "umph" and funk. listen to something like give up the funk and you'll see what i mean, everything hits that first note funky shit is as much about the notes you don't play as it is the notes you do play, there's a video on youtube of an interview with some afro dude teaching this but i can't seem to find it [editline]14th July 2015[/editline] a good base to practice from, i think, is this classic. seems to have exactly what you're talking about

Trying to mimic the half-life style with some horror
I know, I just used the generic instruments that came with FL, and I was just bored. What do you recommend for a good free music program? I don't think I want to spend 100 dollars on something I won't use often, and the FL Studio demo won't let me save songs. Your song though reminds me of a track I made before. It's a little too quiet to hear anything distinctive, but it does sound unsettling.
Would depend on the context lmao you'd have to record it.
The idea is that the F# stays on top of the voicing for all the chords, and it never really resolves.
The idea is that the F# stays on top of the voicing for all the chords, and it never really resolves.
It works but yeah it still depends on context, it might sound weird and shit if it's not helping accomplish the music. Still playing with the idea of building songs around the pauses. https://soundcloud.com/messier-51/soo-2/s-oQSkX
