there wasn't really much to feedback to that i hadn't already replied to. look back in the forum
Ordered a JD-Xi from Sweetwater and its on the way :D Speaking of which they're running a deal on the gearfest demo units right now, call in on any of the "yellow tag" items and you get more money off. In the case of the JD-Xi you can get a nearly new unit with allllll the original boxes and items and such for $400. No tax (for me at least in WA, maybe if you ARE in Indiana) and free shipping. You would have a hrd time beating that even with ebay used. Also hoyticus totally didn't notice it was you with the avatar change. I would say you're fine since you've given so much criticism. I'm away from my speakers/headphones atm but I'll give your stuff a listen in a bit :)

I really like this forum, its community is pretty small, so it's nice and personal which allows you to post your sounds without them getting drowned, but I do wish it was a but more active.

Not sure if thats what you wanted, but it sounds off. Otherwise its got a pretty nice vibe, I could see the snare being made a bit "punchier" with a bit of selective EQ'ing and probably fitting in the mix still. Also the little chiptune sound effects that make that descending sound seem a bit loud or forward, but that may just be my headphones. Overall I dig it. Nice composition and good amount of variety and movement, good buildup and chorus. Nice outro too, simple and satisfying
I've been listening to a lot of dubstep lately and it has inspired me to finally take a second stab at the genre. So here we go. Took me a while to finally get a good snare going for this sort of thing
Right off the bat, I've gotta say the encoding on this is pretty bad! Fortunately that has little to do with your actual work but more with the file format you're outputting to and with what settings. Best settings are 320 kbps MP3's (although I use v0). Check it out. Other than that, it sounds like silly fun, which is pretty cool. I can't really comment on the mixing until you post a higher-quality render! Do that and we can get back to you! (or at least I will) [editline]27th August 2015[/editline]
Making that track really gave me a profound respect for established professional dubstep artists. People might hate on it because it's like wub-wub call of duty montage brostep or something, but you have to appreciate the immense amount of extensive sound design and intuitive engineering that goes into making a track like this one.
Going to be honest, this is my biggest pet peeve with dubstep remixes and remixes in general. The actual dubstep bit has nothing to do with the actual track and sounds like it derives no inspiration from what makes Louis Armstrong great. It's a missed opportunity.

This sounds like modern dubstep alright! The mixing is pretty great. Although I'm not a fan of this genre (more peeves), this sounds like it's hit all the right marks. No objective complaints.
Here's a house track I started working on yesterday and finished today. I haven't used trompets before but they work pretty well I think. The chords were made by improvising on the keyboard and finding what sounded good.
The synth at 1:40 lacks power, I think it should have taken a more commanding position in front of the track. It really falls into the background later on too. I like the hihats tho and the trompets crompets are fun [editline]27th August 2015[/editline]
I don't really have any clue how to give feedback other than just stating my opinion which is by no means professional. I find the bass a little too distorted for my taste and it kinda distracts you from the rest of the sounds, mostly at the end, and the trumpets a tad too loud than the rest of the sounds. But it's a pretty solid track. This is my most recent track. I was trying to go for a '90s feel, so there aren't many high-ends. However that's no reason for my lack of mastering skills. I still consider myself a noob, I've only been producing for two years.
It doesn't really have a coherent structure as the parts just cut into each other hastily and without a feel that they should be together, a small drum fill or some other kind of transition wouldn't hurt. It's a bit of silly fun and with better production and composition would be a nice track [editline]27th August 2015[/editline]
You have some really good riffs and grooves, I especialy like 1:30-1:45, that's a pretty clean and well stereoized lead which complemented the riff very well, so keep that up. However, the pieces of your track are all there, but it feels like they don't quite fit together correctly. The transitions sound like someone is just skipping to the next song on their iPod, it breaks the flow, and it also feels like somehow some points are off beat, and if that was a style you were going for, then I'm all for it, you be you. It just bothers my taste. Also, some stuff could use some good reverb and compression, that would really help your sound be much more present and larger. And don't sell yourself so short! If you're sharing a track, be confident about it. If you set the bar low by sayin stuff like "eh im a noob it's not that good", people will listen to the track with their own expectations lowered. Your music is an expression of your inner self in some way, so take pride in your work! Also, would anyone be interested in collaborating on building a track with me? I've only ever done one collaboration and I'd love to be able to work with the wide diversity of musical styles that everybody has on this thread Recently I've finished a track that I think came out very well, I would like to know what the people on here think. It's a progressive house themed track, cuz progressive house is my favorite genre.
The clap clashes with the over all softness of this track, since its pretty sharp. You can have a snappy snare/clap and still retain the softness but this one doesn't really fit [editline]27th August 2015[/editline] I'll do more later, heres a thing I made by taking some tracks and putting filters on them:
I'll do more later, heres a thing I made by taking some tracks and putting filters on them:
This could be a kickass soundtrack if you keep up what's going on at 1:36.
got a kazoo! :v:
It's got a good energy to it, but you can bearly hear any of the percussion at all. There's also a lot of obnoxious and dissonant noises going on that really bother me haha, but it's in an interesting style. Anybody heard Matt Lange's stuff? He's on Mau5trap records and god damn, this some good shit. Incredibly complex and amazingly clear yet pleasingly subtle percussion on this track. Absolutely amazes me. I like to do it from time to time to improve my own drum programming and get ideas for beats and groove flows and such. Also just found out you can load all of the Integra-7 synth sound axial libraries onto the JD-Xi. Includes Juno-106, Juno-60, TB-303, Jupiter-8, and SH-101. And they all sound really good for being samples/pcm waves eeeeeeeeeeeeee It arrives wednesday right as I get back to seattle and I'm so excited its not even funny I've been wanting a legit instrument to play music with for aaaages. The piano is so crisp, your bass is nice and present without sounding distorted or overpowering, and the vibe just flows so well. I think the only things the track could use is more length and like some rapping over it, then it would be even more baller than it already is.

The chords are awesome and I love the sound of the brass, got a perfect cheesy 80's sound to it. It seems to have a really nice envelope too, and the little lead synth (if thats what it is) has a funky feeling to it and enough movement to keep things fresh. As always (I don't even thave to say this anymore) your synth and sound design is top-notch. The snare does sound a bit boxy or woody though, you could maybe add more hiss to it or a bit more sustain and still have it work. Thats the only I could think of besides the percussion being a bit quiet but that could fall on my shitty monitoring system. I did some real quick 5 minute EQ and sound swapping work on that synthwave thing I said I ragequitted on. I was so ashamed of how bad it was I never posted it here, despite being a track I actually finished. Decided now I could really use the criticism though, so shred me up lads ;p [editline]28th August 2015[/editline] some things might be broke, there was a nice sub rumble in the start and in general throught he whole thing but I deleted that plugin in my big plugin cleanout. Also had to reauth my novation plugins so if something is missing or broken let me know and I'll fix it asap

It kind of adds an unnecessary "noise" in the high end that just feels eh. Not really a fan of this type of music it just seems really random, but it was fun to listen to. Sounds a bit "loose" too, I ran it through a compressor just for shits and was able to tighten it up quite a bit, seems like alot of sounds that should be in the mids are kind of muddied in with the bass. But that's just a personal preference kinda thing I guess, I don't know exactly what you were going for cause it's so foreign to me, this type of sound.

Didn't notice muddied mids, but I'd believe it. All I have right now is my surfaces built-in speakers which are baaad. Forgot to compress it. I should have probably put a bit more effort into the mixdown before uploading, and the randomness is something I noticed as well. I'm still working really ahrd on improving the flow of my composition and arrangement, leading the songs places instead of just adding and removing noises. Its hard though. The rain sample should have dropped significantly in the meat of the song, and I had cut down the highs considerably but seems something broke now that I look at the project file. Oh well! Its a "finished" song that I can learn a lot from. I was trying to be less of a perfectionist and jsut finish things when I made this. Its about a month old too. I do really appreciate the criticism though. Every mistake, poor decision, or bit of honest criticism is a chance to learn so the more the merrier. Will eventually lead to improvements. Oh, btw forgot to post what I had written on your track but I really love how clear the piano comes through. The hat in the background was perfect, and the wobbly bass sound was delightful (a nice classy level of wub). Were you going for melodic dubstep? Thats one of my favorite genres. You really hit the nail on the head, wish it was longer. Choir/fem vox sound is placed so nicely in terms of space and volume as well. Love it overall, so like I said wish there was just more of it. [editline]28th August 2015[/editline] In general, I find myself enjoying playing music more than making it. Its what I lose most of my time to. I enjoy making music, but I always feel so bad about what I make and so self critical its hard to enjoy it. Aimlessly playing isn't at all stressful, so I'm trying to make myself better at just aimlessly making music for the fun of it and not worrying about judgement.
Hey man, do whatever is fun. If it's not fun Your method is incorrect.
Hey man, do whatever is fun. If it's not fun Your method is incorrect.
Absolutely. Which is why I'm getting my hands on some hardware away from computer. I can still sequence and make songs, but not much pressure to save them or make them all into something better. I still like using my DAW but I dunno I just feel so much pressure to always strive for perfection and feel bad not doing my best. There are times where I have crazy moments of driven inspiration, like with that Intro/Outro snippet to that song I posted last page. But then I avoid finsihing that because its a neat concept and I don't think I can do it justice at my current skill level. But w/e I'm trying to keep it fun. Also thinking of starting to do tutorial videos but it seems like a saturated market. Some tutorials are pretty shit though, and aren't presented well. I think it would be a good way to help and cement my own learning, plus get my name out there if I want to make more of this sort of stuff.

Sounds like there's some ring modulation on it too, and some distortion.
My track is like 50% samples I'm a lazy asshole
It doesn't really matter. I don't get why some ppl give shit for producers because they sample heavily, but the end result is the thing that matters. Creating something new from existing pieces [editline]31st August 2015[/editline] unless its some blatant shit like some vapourwave songs that just take an original song and slow it down (they dont give a shit tho because thats the whole point of the genre)
Sounds like there's some ring modulation on it too, and some distortion.
Ring mod was the first thing to come to mind as well.
Anyone here familiar with microphones? Mine's picking up a shitload of white noise and I think it's the onboard audio on my pc.
