The gate effect is wonderful on these snares. Combined with the reverb, it has that right level of smack. Threw a limiter on both the kick and snare so it wasn't so ear-wrenchingly loud. Played around with more effects, but I'm in love with the vocoder :v:
gated reverb is the secret to good 80's vibes. If you're making retrowave/synthwave/darkwave/trendynameoftheweek its one of the secret ingredients. Like sidechaining.
Fuck I want those synths so bad. I've been trying to make shit that sick forever and I've been lost. also I like little amen's in there.
I could upload the patch but it'd be pretty pointless, most of the magic comes from outside effects as KmartSqrl mentioned, and lots of automation. My biggest tip to get the crazy movement is to start with a patch with some nice but maybe relatively subtle movement (so a pretty broadband signal), then you want to use very heavy notch filters and one heavy bandpass automated by hand, followed by MASSIVE amounts of multiband compression. Like seriously, disregard everything everyone has ever told you about compression and absolutely abuse your multiband to bring the frequency content you're losing from the heavily filtering back into the game. After that resample or whatever and mess around. Here's the b ass (and a few other bits) isolated:
Thanks Ill tweak shit like that. What did you guys think of my collab? I dont really like it tbh
Anyone familiar with Milkytracker or similar software? I'd love to get into it but the program has no tooltips and the documentation doesn't seem to have a "Getting Started" section...
Anyone familiar with Milkytracker or similar software? I'd love to get into it but the program has no tooltips and the documentation doesn't seem to have a "Getting Started" section...
I use renoise which is a tracker.

This stuff is really solid. I'd absolutely play Dut Dut and Maybe out :) Okay yeah I like these more every time I listen. Send me dubs if you write more stuff like this in the future!
God, listening to Holy Ghost!'s latest mix album where they've remixed 14 songs by other ppl and it really makes me want to dabble in remixing but I have no idea where to start or how it's done, anyone know any good video series or tutorials or something to get me started? [editline]11th October 2015[/editline] Also, I found a person willing to sell an Access Virus KB at a good price so I mailed him asking if it's still for sale. I would have loved a C or TI if it wasn't so expensive, but I doubt I'll feel like I'm missing out and also it's really hard to find keyboard versions which I would kinda really like.

for that track that I posted earlier. Are the drums too complicated?
for that track that I posted earlier. Are the drums too complicated?
Yeah, you should save something like that for the climax. I like the syncopated keyboard though. Little too much distortion. Needs a bassline. [sp]Slowmo version.[/sp] [editline]11th October 2015[/editline] [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108682320/tut.wav[/vid] We Tut Tut Child now.

I listened to that episode yesterday! That's insanely cool. Thanks for the compliments, means a lot from you! This song is awesome, that kick drum is lovely. The sounds in the intro are very nice also. I'd personally like the bass to be ever so slightly rawer, maybe a little more high end? Either way it sounds fantastic.

You should definitely do more stuff like this man

Production is clean, I like those shakers at the 3:30 mark or so, sum good percussion there. Overall I am hearing a pretty damn solid track right here. Here's a quick "come home smoke a bowl and make whatever sounds good" track

Little high on the trebel, I like the high pass piano though. Bells could probably fill in between everything else better. The bass is nice, could use a tad more harmonics though.

It sounds just like something that would be on one of those little adult swim transition things. I love the percussion, it's so crisp and fits amazingly with the style. The the 4/4 sidechaining is something you don't hear enough in these chill breakbeat style things. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's only 13 seconds long! Keep going, man! I'm sure you could make a stellar track with this. Well, I went on a hiatus for a month or two because my creativity ability was in the shitter. BUT, I managed to pull myself together and actually finished a track that I deemed worthy of uploading. It's progressive house, my absolute favorite genre. decided to experiment with building my own percussion from scratch with synths. let me know what you guys think

I agree with your comment on Prizyms track too. I've tried really hard before to get that kind of sound, it's just a shame it isn't longer. Here's something I started last night, if anyone has anything to say that would be cool :buckteeth:

The kicks and claps lack that punch, though. Feels really soft. Dunno if they go beast mode later on, but thats the only thing I really picked up on. I dig the usage of reverb/echos later on! Real fucking rad, I might add. As for this, I have no idea what I'm doing with it. Not sure if it can be salvaged, I'm kinda..stuck :s https://soundcloud.com/muu-558163172/why/s-ETnfZ
man, the only thing i dont really like about this thread are the people that are just like
it's pretty good, man. anyways, look at my track here www.ijustwanttopromotemyownmusic.com

man, the only thing i dont really like about this thread are the people that are just like
p sure thats wut ur supposed to do in this thread tho otherwise, we'd have no music to talk about
Yeah that's what I hate about music threads, every post is just a YouTube video with no discussion.
man, the only thing i dont really like about this thread are the people that are just like
I'm...sorry? I'm no expert in feedback but I try.
Well, I meant that people don't show any real interest in other people's work. If you want people to enjoy and truly appreciate your art, you have to do the same for others. If I send a track of mine to a friend and all he says is "it's pretty good, man." then I'm more insulted than if he were to tell me that my music is awful and I should just quit. "pretty good man" just shows to me that he doesn't care about it. Art is one of the greatest ways humans have to express their inner selves, so if you don't care about my art, then you practically don't care about who I am as a human. I mean, I pour hours into the stuff I produce and "pretty good, man" is just heartbreaking. (insert end of rant here)

Maybe do some Eq on the bassdrums so it punches through more.". Its very little for me to work with, and I try pretty hard to give in-depth criticism and help in this thread in general. Just try your best to give some fairly meaty criticism guys. Learning to give criticism is an excellent skill, and learning to not listen to parts of it is fair too. Don't be scared that you're not good enough to go in-depth, just try it. Listen to the individual elements, notes, chords, instruments, samples, eq'ing, volume levels, transitions, effects, dynamic range, how does the song "feel", is any part disharmonious etc there should be no trouble finding enough to write 3-4 sentences at least.
I'll be honest there are times when I don't feel like I'm qualified to give criticism when the song is a genre I'm unfamiliar with.
