these funk vibes are wonderful tbh, really love the feel of everything, especially the wind instrument (flute?) which just gives me an instant 70s throwback

Not usually a genre I listen to, but I thought it was pretty interesting sounding. I think my biggest complaint with it is that the instrumentation stays the same throughout. It feels to much of the same. And like another person suggested above is that it lacks a B section. It'd might do alright without a B section if the instrumentation was different. It really jammed though, I'll give you that. I felt like I could get into it, but its lacking a few things that are keeping it from greatness. But as I said earlier I'm not familiar with that genre, so keep my suggestions with a grain of salt.

The dumb ratings were for earlier when I made my post I had a single sentence and hadn't gotten to posting the rest of my feedback.

So some of you may remember I posted that I got a gig writing music for a radio doc, well here's one of the tracks that will be used for it. This one loops, but it loops with key changes to give a slightly different feel so it doesn't get too repetitious.
Well my plugin fun has started. Can't wait to make a bunch with ridiculous over the top names. A few soon to be seen:
Sub saturatererer (Make your 808's 800008's)
RFWS - Real f*cking wide sounds (the stereo enhancer you never knew you needed)

is RFWS going to be a magical plugin like sausage fattener
who needs sausage fattener when you got this

This type of stuff I really like, big atmospheric feel, great wide sound space. how do you get it sounding so big?
[editline]11th June 2016[/editline]
I updated my doom based thing, added some saturation to the melody, upped the tempo a bit. sounds better I think.

I'm self taught and starting to learn to impro and play my own stuff. Critical comments are appreciated.
If you like it, like on youtube too :). Getting views and thus critic hard without marketing or putting a lot bets in production quality.

Does anybody know what that website is that has piano chords for various songs, will play the associated midi file, and can transpose the songs? (for free)
I don't know about transposing, but this website can do most of that:

yes thank you. I don't know how a half hour of googling didn't get me it
Hey guys, it's not exactly pertaining to music, but it's a sound production question. I got a really solid awesome condenser mic for my birthday and it picks up everything. My room is fairly large and it's got a lot of empty corners, so reverb just feels impossible to deal with in vocal recording. I've been using my closet to record as of late because it's small and filled with sound padding (clothes), but it's a hassle because I have to move my mic stand in and out of a small awkward space, and perhaps more importantly, I don't have access to my DAW while I'm recording in there. The ideal situation would be recording in front of my computer, but reverb is getting in the way. Do any of you guys treat your room for reverb? Would hanging blankets in the corners of my room suffice? Barring that, are reflection filters any good?
This is for voice overs, by the way.

you could get one of these things. I can't remember what they're called but your local music store will probably have some.

Yeah that's a reflection filter. I'm just not sure how well it would work but it's worth a shot.
i just use a dynamic mic because the noise rejection is much better i don't like condensers for voice anyway. it fucks up the highs.
Before I got the condenser, I've just been using a dynamic mic. Really, really warm sound because it wouldn't pick up anything unless I pressed my face against it. Results were okay but they were only good for when I had to sound like Duke Nukem or something. I'll keep it around for that :v: Besides, the dynamic mic still gave me reverb issues when I got loud.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Fucks up the highs in what way? Frequency response is bad in the highs or?
i just use a dynamic mic because the noise rejection is much better i don't like condensers for voice anyway. it fucks up the highs.
i do this too but if you can afford a really nice condenser mic then you can probably muster up the scratch for some bits of foam too. i always use a dynamic mic at home for misc recording shit though.

Would it be possible to get some CC on this?
is RFWS going to be a magical plugin like sausage fattener
That's the plan!

The "ride" thing at 0:21 doesn't fit. Use low toms at 0:35 instead of more kick. Also the last note of the riff has a bad tone to it.

there is a purposeful tri-tone at the end to be similar to the original e1m1

I have a question, what would be the best way to record a guitar without buying anything at all?

Pretty odd question, is it an acoustic or electric?
Electric guitars are the easiest to record since all you have to do is plug in the guitar into the computer through a soundcard.
So the first questions would be;
What kind of guitar are you planning on recording (without buying anything)?
You could get away with recording the guitar with your phone if you have one, that's probably the easiest way to record a guitar without having to buy anything. It won't sound particulary good though, but it'll get the work done.

I feel like the buildup is way too long and the potential buildup doesn't really amount to anything right now, something to occupy that upper mid and treble would do a lot to make a pretty nice track into something even better. :)
Anybody else have a problem when it comes to mixing with a reference, as in ; You can't find any tracks of a similar genre that you produce yourself, so you essentially just try and mix&match various elements of other types of tracks into something? I find it hard to get this track to sound like I want to, and I'm not sure how to progress. I fear it has to do with the tracks themselves, and that this is essentially the best I can do mixing-wise.

I have an acoustic guitar and last time when I tried to record using my phone but it was really easy to make it distort the sound, very annoying.
[editline]15th June 2016[/editline]
It didn't help that there's something with the left channel on my phone that makes that high pitched tone.

Yeah the microphones on phones are usually really sensitive, so to get a good and clean (as clean as one can get) signal you'll have to place it at around the 12th fret, and quite a bit away from the guitar.
This depends a bit on your style of play ofcourse, some way to dampen the guitar could help too.
Fuck it here's ME spitting.

Dude that was awesome, good job. I haven't been doing a good job keeping up with everyone in this thread, but since the last piece I've heard from you this is a major major improvement.
Man, I'm really excited. The radio documentary I was writing music for is complete. All the music is done and the documentary has gotten the go ahead from the leader of world college radio day (dude advise Obama in radio broadcasting last year). I just got to listen to the finish edit and I was even surprised how well the music fitted in, in some areas. It's going to air on over 800 radio stations, and I'm going to get some coverage in the local college magazine and more than likely an article in my cities paper. Its pretty cool.
