Update?
They are the cutest insects i have ever seen
C'mon postal, you're gold member for a reason, update!
how did you manage to count exactly how many eggs it laid?
It appears you are raising Spartan-IV Caterpillar/Moth Soldiers. Our future wars are assured victories. Plus, this is a really cool thing you are doing. And yup, some usually do die during the augmentation process, and rarely die during training. Just remember to keep an eye on Spartanpillar 117. (bolded is what I had to say, everything else is sarcasm)
how did you manage to count exactly how many eggs it laid?
By sitting there and counting patiently?
I'd love an update. Quite an interesting thread to follow.
yeah sorry about lack of updates. stuff came up last few weeks, plus my camera broke but it was for the best, i've been putting off getting a new one for about a year now. I'm not going to try something like this again. Raising more than 100 caterpillars is crazy. I would've had to spend all day taking care of them if all 400 made it to full size. I'm down to about 130 now. A few have started cocooning. Which isn't good since a good deal of the others haven't reached full sized yet and one of the ones that did cocoon was no-where near full size, which has led me to suspect they might cocoon even if they aren't fully ready. What that could result in I don't know, either really small luna moths, or just dying in the cocoon. Maybe the one that did that was just a mess up, I won't know until they've all cocooned. Keeping them all well-fed proved to be a much bigger challenge than I thought. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Once I find a way to get these pics off my new camera, I'll make more of an update, for now I'll just post this He's an imperial caterpillar, one of the largest caterpillars in the world. Found him, as well as a snake, sitting on a branch I was cutting off for the lunas. Decided to keep him. He's already cocooned and, should everything go alright, hatch next spring with the luna moths.
man thats a big motherfucker

I would say good work, but I hate moths. Hate them so much. Not really hate actually just scared I guess.
Where in FL are you? I haven't seen any caterpillars near where I live.... That's really awesome that you raised so many!
There, finally. Updated the first post with tons new pics and such.
New images are awesome postal
Love my new camera. I'm still getting the hang of it seeing as how it's twice the size and has three times the buttons of my old one, but its great.
Send me a caterpillar postal god damn man I live right down the street
Awesome work postal! But why no pics of snake?
Damn, that's a huge moth. Damn, those are some observational skills.
It's horribly disgusting and cute at the same time.
Awesome work postal! But why no pics of snake?
that would've been a neat pic had I had my new camera then, but i didn't, just some shitty one i borrowed. Wouldn't have come out that great. He was about 2 feet long and a little bigger than the width of a pen and pretty well hidden, being as green as he was.
Caterpillars keep on finding you.
Those are some cute damn caterpillars.
I never see any wildlife when I'm in Florida, just Rabbits and the occasional small lizard... Well birds as well of course but those aren't special. COOLEST thing I've seen there is probably a family of black swans...
Postal, you're insane. Also, Luna moth caterpillars taste delicious I hear, and are very nutritious. I hope you raise em all though, I'd love to see more luna moths.
jesus fuck
My thoughts exactly when I clicked "X new posts" and exclaimed, 'what the fuck!'
Have you tasted one yet?
Moon them. They'll cocoon spontaneously.
