so... pretty...
You are one amazing guy, you know that?
awesome
oh hey four more just hatched while i was eating
Light one on fire and see what happens.
I have seen bigger moths in the bug museum/zoo at Montreal. I saw some brown ones that were bigger than an open hand.
What happens if one of the 412 lays eggs? You gonna raise those too? That would be kick ass.

Yeah there's a couple rad moths that are bigger than the luna moth. The atlas moth has a wingspan of a fucking foot.

YOU ARE SO SMALL, IS FUNNY TO ME!
Postal, you are now the God Of The Luna Moths.
Like Garry is the God Of Facepunch.
Don't abuse your powers like he did.

you should give the surviving moths gold member
and name the garbage can in which you threw the dead ones 'general discussion'
Holy shit, those things are huge.
I want moths :(
I remember when I was about 4-5 I found a silk worm, my parents let me keep him. He eventually turned into a butterfly/moth!
AAA+ thread dude
Cool I remember this thread
Nice project, those are beautiful animals.
aww how cute... Your like one big...god!
This is realy cute :3
(and now i have realy cute page)
OP is a good photographer. Also, caterpillars are adorable for some reason. About the only bug that can pull that off.
figured out what time they hatch based on the last two batches.

He was really odd looking, with super small yellow wings

And he apparently still had a caterpillary body

He was climbing alot, always trying to go up. he passed by a luna moth that hatched about 30-40 minutes earlier

His wings started to grow, and change colors

He needed a good place to hang from while the blood circulated into his wings, so I gave him one

And eventually he was ready to go

Very cool stuff, man
I know how you're travelling to London next time you go
Moth swarm
Tie them to your coat and fly away.
Awesome!
Reminds me of the jumping spiders i raised, though they never made it.
But recently i found a massive grass-funnelweb spider, and lo and behold it layed eggs.
Theres about 80 spiders as of now [if i can find a decent camera, and upload site i'll post pic], and one of them is a mutant with two abdomens!

Know "James and the giant peach"?
9/19-9/24: 412 eggs are laid. Every day just as it starts to get dark outside, the moth starts laying the eggs, while laying still during the day.

Whore.
The moth is not you... unless moths somehow randomly lay eggs without a mating partner. That would be creepy
Very awesome.
Postal, i have a question, not sure if it has been raised or not. What will you do when you have them all hatched? Are you attached to them in anyway? say like a pet? Just a couple questions out of curiosity, they look awesome by the way, what will happen to the small yellow fella?
EDIT.
Sorry, disregard my last question please, just realized the wings grow over a short time.

This is awesome, I really enjoyed reading this. If you are going to do something similar to this with different kinds of caterpillars, please catalog it as you did this time! :buddy:
Whoa, awesome new pictures. I love looking at these.
Beautiful great job!
