I’m going to attempt to raise 412 Luna Moth Caterpillars

I loved caterpillars since I was 7, but the only thing that I was scared of was their spikes.
I'm normally not on for this kinda stuff, but this is fucking awesome! :v:
Also, nice of you to give that one a helping hand out of it's cocoon.
This is awesome man. Good for you for doing something like this. It would feel pretty awesome to raise so many of them.
These are amazing postal, been waiting for these little guys to hatch.
It's like all the 'liquid' in his body was slowly drained then pumped into his wings.

I saw the video the moment it came out on YouTube and thought that the moth was retarded or something.
But the pictures shows otherwise!
Are you going to release them all into the wild or keep a few as breeding pairs?
What an awesome thread.
Great documentary of their life cycle.
The last seven pictures (of the one that was born with tiny yellow wings) gave me a sense of calm and a tear to my eye. It's nice to know that there are such beautiful creatures and critters out there in the world.
I used to have a phobia of these bastards, but now... i feel all nice and warm :3

I'm releasing them right after they turn. As for keeping them as breeding pairs, do you mean breeding them with each other? I'd never think about inbreeding them. Also I read online that sometimes doesn't work right and causes lots of problems, so I'm not going to.

You're using them for sexual purposes and you can't fool us.
Honestly! How gullible do you think we are!

hi mikfoz i -i-i-i-iILOVE U
I read they don't have a mouth because they don't eat because they die after a week.
Yup. The Luna moth is a member of the saturniidae's. They don't have digestive systems when they're moths.

Wow, those things are awesome. The only moths we get around here are dull grey ones.

I remember when I was about 8 years old, I poked a caterpillar and it jizzed all over my chest, and it itched like hell and I ran in and told my dad that a caterpillar spit on me cause it hates me.
I killed it.
The results are very fascinating, congratulations Postal.
I would still be creeped out to touch one.

I'm confused entirely now. I live in the east coast USA and I've seen that bug, particularly that one in my neighborhood before.
What the fuck.
Cool stuff, OP, I hope to see more.
I'll do one next.
Should I raise 412 Cecropia's?
Or 412 Hickory Horned Devil's?
412 Stinkbugs
Now that they are born, you should go find a wimpy, scared kid and release them all at once on him.
