Whens the emperor caterpillar going to hatch? :keke:
I have no idea when the imperial will hatch. It could be any day now. He's still very much alive so there's no doubt about him eventually hatching.
Should've sold them to some place that eats gross things.
If anyones interested I got some hatching right now. If you have msn you can watch it over webcam. but it's gonna be done in like 10 minutes
i need to dl msn ffff
yes you do. anyways starks got dibs on this hatching. but if anyone else is interested let me know, and in the order you respond is the order you'll (hopefully) get to see one hatch.
This is pretty goddamn awesome. I have never seen a moth that big before.
[ig]htp://bipolaires.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/gumb5.jpg[/img] It puts the lotion on its skin...
Does this have any bearing on anything we're talking about?
Does this have any bearing on anything we're talking about?
well yeah. buffalo bill raised moths.
well yeah. buffalo bill raised moths.
Oh yeah.
Man that looks like a lot of work...
Did you know they fully liquify inside their cocoon? they turn into a bunch of "stemcells" and then reassemble into a butterfly
Copulate with your sweets and create a Moth Man.
Copulate with your sweets and create a Moth Man.
Take the nucleus of a moth cell and implant it in a human female egg. Then infuse your semen with moth pheromones and inseminate said female. Then maybe you'll get one of these: :science:

I was thinking about doing this to get rid of some of my flies but I googled it and moths don't eat. Kind of weird because I always thought they killed flies
This is one of the coolest threads on facepunch! That's so cool man, you don't see that kind of stuff everyday! It's inspiring!
Well it's been a few weeks and no more have hatched. I think that's all of them. There's 10 cocoons left, but a bunch aren't making very promising sounds when I move them around in my hand (Sounds as though whats inside isn't as big as it should be) and I guess the others are just ones that the moth wasn't strong enough to hatch. Which brings the final luna moth count to 92 successful moths. A job well done I'd say. Also still waiting on the imperial.

correction: 93. one just hatched apparently. its been weeks since the last hatching and when i finally declare this done another hatches. maybe more will hatch now lol.
So just under a quarter of those laid as eggs survived to hatching as full blown moths. Congrats man. Any idea what the percent that survive to this stage in the wild is?
Cool. I got the 500th "Polite/nice/friendly" rating. Also, I dun't see naw 56k warning.

Now capture all of these and grow a few hundred more. Pretty soon, you will have a butterfly chariot to travel as you please. God speed.
Holy shit. I think I found one of those Imperial Caterpillar cocoons one day. It never hatched. :frown:
Man, bug-keeping sounds pretty cool. The closest I ever got to that was collecting pill bugs. and apparently those are crustaceans
This was an amazing read, kudos to you.
this is a badass thread
