Wow! Reading the OP was a lot of fun, thanks for that Postal. I wish the Imperial didn't die though, that was such a tragic loss. :(
God damn Postal, they are so cute! I guess I should make a thread on what I'm nurturing: 4 Green Iguanas, 16 African House Geckos, 1 Glass Snake, and 1 Flat-Headed Agama. All wild caught. So far I've tamed all but the geckos, even then the Agama (Nalla) and Glass Snake (Jimmy) are still a bit jumpy when you pick them up at first.
Oh god when those caterpillars were on your hands. I could never stomach that sort of thing. :suicide:
Talk about nostalgia from when I first joined, I loved this thread.
Only catipillar I've ever raised was a wooly bear The moths they turn into aren't that cool. What area of the US do you live in postal to get such colorful moths?
raise atlas moths are the biggest moths in the world and big as 270–280 mm (11in)
raise atlas moths are the biggest moths in the world and big as 270–280 mm (11in)
Tie a bunch of them to yourself and go motherfucking flying.
its cool how to big ones look exactly like the smalls ones just scaled up
and here the pic of an atlas moth
I still found this the craziest part It was like he was 50% moth and 50% caterpillar. He was not only walking with his new legs, but wriggling his body like a caterpillar at the same time. It wasn't until he held still to let his wings fill up that he pulled in the caterpillar body and stopped wriggling it around, which i think was because all the fluid was going from that extra long body, into the (soon to be) giant wings. Metamorphosis is fucking crazy.
I wish I knew how to not find this gross
This thread reminded me of:
Holy shit I remember this thread. Still, postal, great job.
I find this thread fucking terrifying. Especially the videos.
How did you get them to simply stay on your hand? Weren't you afraid you'd have 20+ 5 inch moths flying in your face and around your house? I really respect how chill you are around them, wish i could be as badass but i'm a pansy when it comes to any insect type creatures.
OP I believe that one day the moths will repay you some way.

never thought this would be so interesting
Great read postal, you did an awesome job at being a mother for these moths.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting in my basement and I freak the fuck out when I see a moth
Why is everyone afraid of moths of all things? I have HUNDREDS of the damn things flying around my house, all I have to do is smack 'em. I actually find this thread quite cute, especially these pictures:

I'm terrified of bugs except for caterpillars and moths/butterflies. I don't know why, I'm seriously more afraid of house flies. I used to have 3 hickory horned devil caterpillars in my room. I also had a cecropia caterpillar like shown in the OP. I let them out for the summer after they turned into moths, it was pretty cool seeing them flutter off into the trees.
How did you get them to simply stay on your hand?
Big moths are really chill. So long as your gentle and thus keep them calm, you can pick them up and carry them around most of the time.
I was outside once, there was a black caterpillar that had black spikes all over it. Do you know what those turn into? And do those spikes on any caterpillar ever sting or something?
I can't tell you without seeing a picture of it. And I'm not sure what you mean in that last sentence. Sometimes spikes on a caterpillar are just for show, or to make it hard to swallow them.
Only catipillar I've ever raised was a wooly bear The moths they turn into aren't that cool. And I live in the south east.
What dripped off its butt at 2:14?
I don't know what it's called, but newly emerge butterflies and moths sometimes squirt out that stuff. Nasty stuff.
We only get these kind around here.
Damn nice job postal, you and your bug threads :3: Any idea what Caterpillar this guy is, he was found in Michigan.
Jesus christ I made that post a long time ago. This thread was great, I loved all of postal's threads like this, he needs his own blog or youtube channel or something.
