Amazing thread. Kind of makes me want to do something like this.
Raised one of these once.

Turns into one of these.

Just figured I'd hop on the shared experience bandwagon.
Wouldn't it be cool to raise a Mothra?
Getting to raise a fully grown polyphemus and newly hatched polyphemus at once was cool

i think i would've liked this picture better if both were in focus instead buuut neither were very willing to stay put
I hate creepy crawly/fly-y critters...

This makes me think of a boss fight with the little guy as the player.

This is probably the coolest and most informative thing I have ever seen.
You are a talented man.
"Sometimes about 30 or so of them will wander off to the top of the cage while all the others are sitting on the leaves below. I've found an easy solution to get them back to the leaves by simply turning the cage upsidedown."
ahaha i'd forgotten about how many times i had to do this shit. Fucking caterpillars, just eat the damn leaves.
So fluffy :3:
Now I'm all itchy.

huehuehue she's giving a blowy to that moth. Seriously, look at that little guy's abdomen in relation to her...supposedly very small lips.

I can just imagine what they're "saying" to each other.. "Look at me wrong bitch, I dare you. I'll swallow your little ass whole..."
But in all seriousness, those tiny caterpillars are cute. :3:

Wouldn't you need fairies for that
But yeah mothra is one of the best godzilla enemies (he's in a lot of them). I saw one of the recent Godzilla movies on netflix (it was a double feature with Godzilla vs Space Godzilla but the one I watched was on before that) and it was made the same way as the old movies. Oh god it was so bad.

What if you spill the cage and let them all out in you're room. In the dark. :ohdear:
Some parts really cracked me up lol. Also, when you hatch them yourselfs, are they some kind of tamed? cause they sit on your hand and stuff, and I don't see and moths outside chilling on my hands.
Oh man, this thread still exists. :buddy:
Awesome, I was always waiting to see pictures of them out of the larva stage.
Oh those are moths, not butterflies.
Anyway, never saw how a bug gets out of a cocoon.
I raised silkworms for 2 years, they are so cute :3. My favorite one was Horus but, he never hatched out of his pupa D;, RIP Horus.
cringing very hard at the caterpillar photos.
but the results were quite awesome.

I cringe more at photos of the moths and such. For example, I man up to any image of, say, a vampire bat feeding, but once I saw an image of a vampire moth (guess what it feeds on!) drinking from a guy's finger, I nearly lost my abnormally large lunch.
This thread is godly.
I remember I had a bunch of butterfly larvas (or whatever they were called). I found them on a tree and expected them to turn into awesome butterflies, so I kept them in a small plastic bag with leaves and stuff. Then they cocooned, and then they turned into those shitty cheap white butterflies.
Still, it was fun to take care of them. :buddy:
Oh wow, I can't believe I missed this thread.
By the way, do you know a moth that is mostly white with a touch of black? It was about 1 1/2 inches resting on the wall. I thought it looked awesome, but didn't know what kind it was.

The most common we have in Norway. They're so boring.
