Postal, it seems you always find the most awesome creatures around your house, where do you live?! I WANNA GO THERE! :crying:
Awesome :D
Good luck, keep us posted.
Tag a few, And see where they go.
.
Once they are fully grown, sneak them into a really shitty movie and release them in the theater mid-film. They will fly up to the light of the projector and cast gigantic moth shadows on the screen.
Tag a few, And see where they go.
I doubt they'd go far. They only live for a week once moths since they don't have a digestive system then, so they just focus on finding a mate and laying eggs.
Best science project i've seen in years.
Just finished cleaning the cage and giving them new food. Went back inside to wash up when I noticed a green speck crawling around on my shoulder in the mirror. I swear it's like these things can teleport.
they can; have you not read the wikipedia article? for shame
Think you could get a wide shot of all of them in the cage? It would be pretty cool to see them all together.
I'm not going to keep them when they turn into moths. I'll release them the second they turn.
release them into a public washroom
yeah postal, where DO you live? its interesting how you find all this awesome wildlife
I live in florida Also more updates, caterpillars are now in two cages due to them pooping so much. Should be a shedding in a day or two. Lots of size differences here.
You should keep one moth. The best one.
FUCK WHY DO I OPEN THESE THREADS. THIS IS SO FUCKING NASTY. (imo by the way, I think its cool and shit but I'm just traumatized for stuff that happened when I was little, and find any sort of catterpillars, worms, etc - disgusting.)
Holy fuck.
We did this with an Emperor Gum Moth a couple of years ago. I don't know where the photos are but the moth looks like this: [editline]11:48AM[/editline] Strongly considering finding some Spitfire Sawfly larvae. They're hideous and freaked me out as a kid as they spit some stinky shit on you if threatened. They hang out in big clumps and crawl in groups. They're fucking cool, but pretty creepy. They are all going to grow and fuck your ass up!!! :flashfap:

I've raised tons of Swallowtail caterpillars before. When threatened they put out two gooey tentacles from the back of their head that puts out a horrid smell. It's cool the defense mechanisms they come up with.
It's like the class project you had in Kindergarten, but cooler.
I doubt they'd go far. They only live for a week once moths since they don't have a digestive system then, so they just focus on finding a mate and laying eggs.
Why don't they have digestive systems?
It's so amazing how they instantly at birth know how to crawl and stuff.
Why don't they have digestive systems?
Dunno, thats just how they evolved. They live off the stored fats from when they are a caterpillar, which lasts them about a week. I guess that way they can just focus on finding a mate instead of finding food while also trying to find a mate.
This may sound dumb but please take it seriously. Clean the caterpillar poop, it smells horrible. I had to take care of some silk worms during 8th grade and had to clean out the box nearly everyday so it wouldn't stink up my room.
Good luck.

Besides I'm going to keep the cage as clean as possible and smell isnt an issue since I'm keeping them outside in order to avoid any problems with the lack of humidity in my house from harming the small caterpillars.

I was expecting the Sweetgum to be some kind of Eucalyptus type tree. It looks more like a maple or something. What a beautiful moth.
