They've started shedding now. It's cool how they get new colors and patterns with each shedding.
You're my favorite mod, postal.

were, you mean
oh shit
I thought you moved to vermont for some reason.
Don't they need to hang on something when they cocoon?

Nope. When these guys are ready, which is about 4+ weeks away, they'll just grab a few leaves near them and wrap themselves up with their own silk and the leaves forming a cocoon which they will then pupate inside of.
I live in florida
:whoptc: Same here.
I've never seen these moths before. Where in Florida are you?
I once kept some maggots from when I went fishing in a very small plastic thing (It was used to look at bugs and shit you found in your garden, you know the kind.)
But they turned into flies after like a month. Am I as cool as postal now?

This will happen.
Also, moths are creepy. Second picture of OP made me almost have a heart attack.
DANG, NINJA'D
Those prickly things look like they would hurt. Or are they just hairy?
*sigh*
bump again, don't let this thread die :saddowns:
I've seen a lot of those caterpillars here in Canada (Quebec)
They get really big too, I used to take care of some of the bigger ones when I was like 10.

Some of them look scary though.

Jesus. Thats huge!
This is the kind of stuff you miss out on living in the UK. Our catapillers dont get much bigger than the current ones in postals collection.
Out of curiosity postal, how are your spiders?
The spiders have started to die off since it's gettin late into the year. Just two of them out there right now. And about 8 egg sacs.
Some of them look scary though.

Cecropia moths are fucking awesome.
Postal where the fuck in Florida do you live? I never get this awesome shit in the part of Florida I live in.
It would SUCK to step on one of those things
Gweclshhup!
Or something similar.
Wow. This is awesome!! But what would you do when they all grow up to max size?
Open the window. Or, I dare you to SLEEP in the room for one night with them, then record it so we can see in the dark. Do it live actually.
EDIT: Went to edit this message and thought the loading circle in the corner was some bug or moth or something.
but it died while it was making the cocoon.
That's like a tank coming and beating the shit out of you 10 feet from the saferoom.
This is so neat, postal and his inner wilderness showing again.
I hate moths but what a fantastic thread!
put them on your ass and take a picture

It's been five days, how's it going now?

Don't forget those bloody craneflies...Have they stopped mating yet? Havn't been outside in a week because having them fly into my face was so bloody annoying.

there's updates in the first post.
speaking of which I'll be gone for five days so don't expect any updates until I'm back. I'll still be taking care of them though, just won't have any internet most likely.
I saw the topic title and without looking at anything else I came into the topic to post "You aren't Postal".
You are Postal.
