If it were a remote lighthouse, it would probably have a fireplace or wood stove, given that age. "Modern" houses from that age had steam radiators (invented around 1855 iirc)
Given that the house seems to have been retrofitted with electricity and cable (or an antenna, assuming with the tv) it would make sense that it may have been retrofitted with a steam boiler and radiator system at some point, too.
Also, that living room looks just like one I made a couple months ago! What was your inspiration for the house?
Guess who got frustrated and decided to start over!
Thankfully I'm feeling really optimistic about this one.

That is looking really good. Are you planning to do a couple of houses or a town?
Here is one level layout printed into the world twice, with the same characteristics (the rough measurements and shapes), and two different visual themes. Details, like stairs and column placements, vary, because they are not part of the layout characteristic and don't have an influence on the size of the level.
The blue theme is new and I've named it "Rust". It should feel a little colder and unwelcoming than the warm theme from before.

Making progress. Any suggestions? Not all of the textures are final.

The map is looking great, I still don't know what's the base idea but looks good.
Love the architectural look and feel of everything, it feels like a nice synthesis of 3d gamedesign principles and real-world architecture; have you been looking at any references in particular? Looking forward to more!
Do you know what game/mod it's from?
Unfortunately no. The pre-EP2 generator suggests HL2, but I swear I've seen this map in CS:S weapon showcases years ago so it's possible the assets were just copied over, or the entire map was imported.
This is also the only angle I've seen, and the ambiguous layout makes it difficult to tell whether the map is single-player or multiplayer. And with the ocean of HL2 mods out there it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
My friend's from the Netherlands, and I was looking at a small shopping street in his town on Google Maps for a rough reference
Thought I might post this here:
TWHL has just launched a month-long mini mapping competition with the theme of "Ascension". HL1/HL2/Eps & CS as far as I'm aware.
Would be nice to get a few more bodies involved, the short timescale and open for interpretation theme will hopefully be a bit of a pull for anyone who hasn't done anything in a while.
Competition
I started to mess around with Texture Blend materials
I think they could be a nice way to reduce decals
though they need displacement and may not support proper reflection.
At least, I haven't figured out a way to get reflection to work on them yet.

The map is taking shape very fast! Good job.
Can't really see it too well in my previous image,
Here's directly from hammer
I really like how the texture glows through the gaps in the tiles an what not
I'm sure it can become very useful
Valve appears to use this technique pretty often in CS Go
I thought I'd experiment with it for my Portal 2 mod.
We keep hitting Brush limits in our maps
Gonna need to convert lots of them into models and perhaps use more displacement

Been working on a Black Mesa Roleplay map. Keep in mind it's still heavily in development and anything can/will change
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeAGJUFERkQ
The outside 3D skybox looks pretty faithful to Black Mesa, nice job.
Your interior lights seem overly bright though, you can probably tone down the brightness on all of them by like 7-10%
Yeah, probably doesn't help that I don't have a tone map controller yet either, so it makes everything overly bright atm
Anyone know any good flower prop packs?
More cool Milrp map stuff

I had this concept in my head a while, though I am sure its been used elsewhere

Its a bit disorienting in an open room like that, but when its just outside a window I think it will make the perfect backdrop for a space-station map.
was working on a recreation of the endurance from interstellar a while ago this would have been perfect for that
Legit i'm getting dizzy looking at that. But if it was slowed down it'd work perfectly as a backdrop.
