Would anyone be interested in watching a twitch stream of myself mapping a competition entry?
Making progess on the underground portion!

I haven't been here in a while ... I was making a map that everyone was giving me really good feedback on. I made it into a work of art before I vanished and Hammer got bogged down to the point the map was impossible to work with. I went crawling back to the Creation Kit, and ended up using all of my new skills to make this:

This isn't really Source Engine, EU4, or Unity I hope that's ok. I thought I at least drop by if anyone got curious for any reason of what happened exactly...
Anyways, this for Skyrim, the mod itself is a WIP. It's supposed to be a Dark Souls-esque mod that adds a new soul sucking mechanic to the game, and I am bringing in Dark Souls inspired game play mechanics. It's not really a combat overhaul, but its coming with various ways to interact with the new souls mechanic, including souls based enchanted weapons, and items.
Most of it is scripting, which is way out of my comfort zone, and is probably why I chose to do it. Scripting is a new skill I am actually getting pretty talented at, for Skyrim anyways, who would have thought? LOL.

A shadow effect
A volumetric effect:

Oh wow, it embeds. Come watch me in an hour for anyone interested!
If anyone's interested, here are some custom tools I've been working on for some time now, previously only for 2013 MP (GMod, CS:S, DOD:S, etc),
but I just backported them to 2013 SP (Half-Life 2, Episode 2, etc).
Includes way, WAY better stability, an overall smoother experience with all the tools (including Hammer), and instancing for 2013 SP.
Check out the changelog included for a list of all the changes.
Holy shit this should have their own thread. I thought it was like HAVOK's compile tools but you also worked on Hammer itself as well.
I'm tempted to share this in LMAO Pics, but I should get your permission first
I'm conflicted, I decided to scrap the underground section and flesh out the shopping street area. Does it still look good with some of the windows being clear and others being opaque like in the picture below?

I think it should be fine, yeah. I'd make the opaque windows more reflective, though.
I don't have any cubemaps set up yet, but that's reassuring! Thanks for your opinion
sure go ahead
Toss down a cubemap and build it quickly. You might want a special texture that has blinds or something for the opaque ones, depending on how it looks. Right now tho it looks quite out of place just being flat grey, especially considering the amount of detail that exists in the rest of the scene.
I disagree, I think the flat grey texture has some charm to it. It fits in well with the rest of the textures as well as the lighting.
We haven't seen it with specular enabled, so an A/B isn't really doable. But as long as the specular was subtle enough, and the window specmask had plenty of contrast, my intuition is it'd look better.
I've been thinking about working on a second version of Goldencity, so I decided to work on some interiors for it:

Decided to work on some platformy stuff whilst I still wrap my head around these plugs not being amazingly responsive
How's that lift going that you did on the stream yesterday?
Oh my god, mobile formatting sucks. I've worked on the ground floor quite a lot and made some headway into the first floor; will redesign it based on the stuff I use in the platforming section. Not going to work on the lift itself much more until I can fix the unresponsive plugs. Might do another quick stream Tomorrow before work
Good tools :D The Sprinkle Tool not working :'(
Back at it again with the noise. Come say hi!
behold, the time potty

dont mind the jump in the video, I don't wanna pay for fraps
I was talking with a coworker about this last night, and he said it would be hilarious if the only thing you heard when the time potty arrived was the tank refilling, lol.
this is what I do for large terrain maps too—used the same "technique" for hammer like you because I used to play with the age of empires/age of mythology map editor a lot as a kid and that's exactly how I'd mess with the terrain, raise to -> smooth
